Chapter 23

The first thing that Ara became aware of was the cold surface she was laid on top of. It was hard and uncomfortable to lie on, obviously they did not care if it was convenient for her at all. The next thing she felt was an itchy, unpleasant piece of material draped over her body, tugging at her naked skin. The worst thing was that she couldn't even move to take it off; it was as if her whole body was ten times heavier than usual, her bones unable to pick up her weight.
She struggled against the difficulty, however was unable to do anything. In her frustration, tears began to fall down her cheeks, dampening her skin. Furiously, she blinked her eyes, demanding them to stop releasing their salty flow. Suddenly one of the walls slid open, a hidden door no doubt, and in came two women. The first woman looked to be a nurse of some kind; wearing a gray dress that went down to her ankles, a white stainless apron, white cap and plain black shoes. Her expression was blank, not showing any emotion whatsoever. She was pushing a trolley holding various medicinal drugs, syringes and bandages. The other woman seemed to be of higher class; dressed in a white shirt, gray blazer and skirt with black high heels, she looked to be in some sort of leadership in this place of the girls' camp. It was weird, though, how Ara had never known that a place like this existed...
"Ara, the camp disappointment. How you have come to be here must be a fascinating story!" Ara ignored the lady, deciding it was the best option. From the corner of her eye, she saw the woman walk over to her, heels clicking against the floor. The sound echoed around the metal dome. Click, click, click, click.
"My name is Natasha. You can trust me Ara, after all we are both women." Natasha smiled down at her, but there was a certain sharpness in the lift of her lips and the twinkle of her eyes. Of course Ara didn't trust this being.
"Please.. My body hurts! I cannot move." She moaned, giving off an impression of pain. Natasha gave a single nod to the nurse who then went to putting some sort of drug into a syringe. After it was pierced into her skin, the medicine began to work away at her blood, the weight drifting away from her body and back to normality. Few minutes passed and Ara was sitting up, holding the blanket against her body.
"Sarah," Natasha said to the nurse, "go get a simple coverage for Ara." The nurse bowed her head and hurried to find some clothes. Natasha and Ara were now alone.
"Everything will be a lot easier if you told me the truth now." Ara raised her eyebrows.
"What truth?"
Natasha started pacing up and down the room, hands behind her back.
"How deranged you must be to think that you didn't even raise one eyebrow. You seriously couldn't have thought that we didn't catch up with what you have been doing..." Ara could feel her forehead getting damp; she was sweating like mad! She thought she was being so careful!
"All I have ever wanted was peace between genders once again!" Just then Sarah walked in carrying a uniform in her hands. They were placed onto the foot of the bed, right in front of her feet.
"We will give you some privacy." And when they both turned away and walked out of the doors, Ara never felt more alone...
