Chapter Two

            “Sky Army!” I began. “As you all know, our mortal enemy, the squids, invaded our base last night. In the process, they managed to kidnap Dawn. Search parties went out last night and didn’t find a single trace of the squids or Dawn anywhere.” I stopped and closed my eyes for a second. I began again. “We have no clue to where the squids took Dawn. Until the squids are defeated, there will be double the guards on duty. If you wish to exit the walls of the kingdom, you will be required to have someone with you at all times. Have faith that we will destroy the evil creatures.” I finished and stepped down from the podium. Everyone quietly went their ways.

            I leaned against the podium and crossed my arms. Finally, there was only one person was left: Mitch. He stood alone, staring at the ground. He was lost in deep thought, I could tell. He left the night before to go play a Hunger Games by himself. When he had returned, much of the base had been destroyed.

            I walked over to his side. He looked up at me once I reached his side. “H-how?” he stuttered. He clearly was as sad I was. I shrugged, unable to answer his question. Mitch looked back down and walked into the forest, clearly looking for his best friend for help. I simply watched him disappear from sight. I sighed. I turned around and was greeted by a person. I screamed and fell backwards. Then, I smiled; it was Alexis, Seto’s daughter. She smiled back shyly. Alexis had gained her father’s ability to use magic. Sadly, though, her mother died before she was two. “Sorry,” she whispered. I laughed and said, “It’s alright. I’m used to your father’s ability to use magic, but not yours!” Her smile widened.

            “What did you need?” I asked as I stood back up. She was slightly levitating over the ground. “My dad asked me to tell you that he would like to see you,” she said. I nodded as she floated off. I smiled to myself. I just simply found it funny that I was good friends with two people who can use magic.

            I made my way over to Seto’s office. He was our doctor and Alexis was following in his footsteps. When I entered, I saw Seto making potions. “Hey,” I said to him when he turned around. He nodded in greeting, but he was frowning. I tilted my head to the side, confused. Seto rarely frowned; I knew something was up. “What’s wrong?” I asked him worriedly. “Please, sit down,” he instructed. I sat down and repeated, “What is wrong?”

            He looked me dead in the eye and said, “Ty and Jason went missing this morning.” My mouth dropped. “I believe they went looking for Dawn on their own,” Seto continued.

            “H-how could they?” My voice shook with worry. Seto shrugged and looked down. I shook my head and regained my confidence. “I must go after them,” I stated. Seto looked up. “If you do, then who would be the leader while you’re gone?” he asked, standing up.

            A grin came upon my face as I thought of who would be perfect for the role. “I know exactly who.”

                                                     *    *    *    *    *

        “Wait, me?!” Mitch asked, surprised. I nodded. “You, with help from Jerome,” I said. I met up with Mitch just as he was leaving the woods.

        “No, no, no, you’re crazy!” Mitch exclaimed. “Look. I trust both you and Jerome and I know that you will do what is best for Sky Army while I am gone,” I explained to him.

            “Okay,” he finally gave up. I smiled. “I’ll be leaving tomorrow,” I told him, “And can you go tell Jerome for me?” Mitch nodded and ran back into the forest to find his buddy.

            I went to my house and sat down in a chair. I looked over and saw a picture Alexis had painted of me and Dawn. I sadly smiled as I remembered what had happened that day. Alexis insisted that she paint a painting of us together. She used her magic to move the paint brush perfectly. When it was done, Dawn and I hung it up in our house. Now, it was the only thing I had left of Dawn. A tear came down my cheek once again, but I wiped it away quickly. No, I had to stay strong.

             Just then, someone knocked on my door. I got up and got the door. Levitating once again at my door was Alexis. She read my mind and answered my question. “My dad told me that I am going to come with you. And so is Husky and Kermit.” I sighed and said, “Let’s just hope that I won’t kill them both along the way.”
