Chapter 3

The next morning, I woke up to a dozen of messages from my parents and another dozen from my now ex. All I deleted. I just didn't want to talk to them so I turn my phone off.
I take a shower that probably takes an hour and take ages to get ready. It's not a date my lunch with the mystery man but I do take my time to look at least a bit decent but still feel comfortable. So I let my long black hair dry naturally in waves tugging it back with a few clips.
I wear a long dark blue t-shirt dress with a white jacket. All dressed I stare at myself in the big mirror. I am in the guest room. I couldn't use the room that used to be my grandparents room. I maybe wanted to use that as a studio. It did have the best light and view.

The girl that stared back at me looked young... oblivious to the world around her. Innocent. Big blue eyes, like the early morning summer sky. Pale skin, I always, note. Always got a sunburn. To my mother's dismay I was skinny, she had tried every diet on the planet to stay thin and I just had my fathers or no, his mother's figure. Small hips, small chest but definitely not flat. Just... normal. I gave myself a small grin. Nothing wrong here. It was just... so boring, so decent. I needed to do some shopping. I needed more color. Just like I needed a whole lot of paint supplies! I would do that after my lunch. Maybe I would have to drive myself. It was 12 by now and my mystery neighbor would be here in an hour. Maybe I should just call my parents? No. I let them know I had arrived safely! And I wasn't going to call Axel. We were over and done with. No future there.

I went down and outside, back to the ocean toes in the sand. Maybe I could just stay here forever. The house was paid. If I played it well with the money, I had from my trust. Who knows, maybe I was good enough to sell my paintings. I grinned. Probably not. I never had classes, I was completely self-taught. And never had I shown my work to anybody but my grandparents.

I took a short walk on the beach and went back eventually to do some make-up. I was in the Hamptons. I didn't want to look like a weirdo here. Mom always said people would think that... Make-up had to be a part of your daily routine. It just had to!

5 to 1 a short knock on the door sounded. Straight away I was nervous. Why the hell did I decide to do this?! He was a stranger! And older man and I was going out with him. Maybe I should just pretend I wasn't home? What if he was a creep?!
"I will be right there!" I called. Yeah, too late for that. I took a last look in the mirror. With blush, mascara, eyeliner and some lipstick I kind of looked like I belonged here. I hoped so anyway.

I made my way down the stairs to find him and his dark blue eyes eying me up and down in my hallway. "Good day Miss." He smiled.
"If I may introduce myself, my name is William Rutherford."
I smiled back at him. William, that was a good name right? Safe, friendly. And Rutherford sounded expensive.

"Nice to meet you Mister Rutheford, My name is Emory Cleary."
