Chapter 2

My eyebrows rose in surprise. "Evening" I said looking him up and down. He was well put together. Much like everybody around here. It was the Hamptons. He wore khaki pants with white clean sneakers and a white button down blouse. It was Friday evening; he probably came straight out of the office.

"Do I know you?" He asked. "I thought this cottage was from mister and misses Dayholt." He said.
I slowly nodded looking at the soft blue cottage. It wasn't small. Definitely too big for just me. But for now I was happy to be there by myself. They probably imagined me the be there with my husband and kids someday. Now it would be just me.
"Yeah, I am their granddaughter. They left it to me." I said looking back to the man. I could see his eyes were a dark shade of blue, like when the night was falling and there were no clouds but no other colors then blue. It was a mysterious color. One that made you wonder what was behind those eyes. What was behind this person.

"They died?" He seems surprised and his eyebrows rose up. When I nodded he shook his head and his hand when up to go through his rough black hair that was short but messy. "I never knew. I just got back from a business trip. If I had known, I would have send something. They had always been so nice to me. Are you moving in here?"

I shrugged looking at the house again. "For now. I... I don't know."
Suddenly tears stung my eyes and I had to fight to swallow them down. I wasn't going to cry right in front of this seriously handsome man!

"It's okay you know; I would cry if my grandparents would die. I never knew mine. They died when I was a baby." He said with a friendly smile showing me row of perfectly white teeth.
"Sure" I muttered not able to hold all of my tears. A few escaped and I quickly wiped them away with the sleeve of my sweater.

"You should go to sleep. It should be a great day tomorrow. Do you have any plans? I could take you out for lunch?"
Another shrug. Really, why would a man like him take little old me for lunch. "Can I pick you up at one? Trust me I know a great place! Your grandparents loved it!"

"All... all right" I eventually stammered. It was strange, how old was he, end twenties? Maybe even in his thirties? I was just twenty-one! Then again, it was just lunch, he had been a friend of my grandparents. Nothing wrong with lunch!

I Nodded and managed a small smile. He gave me a wide smile back making his blue eyes sparkle in the setting sunlight. "Wonderful, I will pick you up at one! Goodnight Miss" He gave me a little nod and turned to walk away across the beach towards a gigantic mansion. To that, my cottage was a little dollhouse.

It was now I only realizes he never told me his name... and I never told him mine.
