Chapter 15
On the day of Lockhart's book signing, Mrs. Weasley had Myla get up early to ensure she looked extra presentable at the store. Myla wore a black dress just below the night, tights with flats, and a dark red cloak over her shoulders. Molly Weasley had pulled Myla's hair into a high bun; making sure not a single hair was out of place.
"Why is my appearance so important to you for this?" Myla asked as Mum applied light makeup.
"Because you are the youngest inventor and this is Gilderoy Lockhart," Myla answered. "I want Lockhart to be impressed."
Dad appeared at the doorway. "Beautiful as always, Lala."
"Thanks, dad," Myla smiled at him. "Do you think it'll catch Lockhart's attention?"
"Hush," Mom ordered. "You look more professional; even if you are just there to help at the book signing."
"This is a big event," Dad brought up as Mum applied pale lipstick to Myla. "You need to make a good impression with Lockhart." Myla nodded. Soon Myla was ready to go and the others in the household were just stirring.
"Remember Myla," Percy began. "Speak clear."
"Yes, Percy," Myla nodded; she looked over to Ginny. "We are low on Floo powder; make sure to grab some from the greenhouse before you leave."
"Will do," Ginny nodded.
Myla stepped into the fireplace with some floor powder. "Diagon Alley!" Myla was so used to the feeling by now. She slipped into the bookstore and began to help set up for the event. Making sure everything was in place not only for the guest of honor, but customers stepping in. The reporters came, and they started to ask the workers how they feel about Lockhart and how much it is going to mean to the store.
"Tell me, Ms. Weasley, how does it feel to have Mr. Lockhart in the bookshop?" Mr. Hinz asked
"Wonderful," Myla answered. "Anytime a big author comes in, especially Mr. Lockhart; it creates a joyous atmosphere. Though it can be stressful getting the preparations done in time."
"I heard employees are getting signed copies; just in time for you are going to be starting your second year of Hogwarts," Mr. Hinz continued,
"I will have to recover the book since the signed cover will be given to my mother; she is a huge fan," Myla said.
"Speaking of your second year at Hogwarts," Mr. Hinz began. "Are there going to be any inventions for you this year? Have you been working on any over the summer?"
"A few drafts here and there" Myla answered. "Working at the Apothercy shop has given me the opportunity to learn more about potion ingredients; sparking up some ideas."
"Any hints as to what they might be?" Mr. Hinz asked.
"Not one," Myla denied. Soon the other Weasleys entered the shop, and Myla went and greeted them.
"Where's Harry?" Myla asked as she patted soot off Ginny.
"He didn't speak clear enough when using Floo powder for the first time," Ron answered. "He could be dead."
"Now, let's not think the worst," Dad said clapping Ron on the back. "He's probably just lost."
"You must be Myla Weasley," a woman said, Myla looked over.
"Our Hermione has told loads about you," the man said with a smile.
"Hermione is a delight to have a classmate," Myla smiled. "Excited to be back at school with her come when term begins." The two muggles became more relaxed. "Where is Hermione?"
"Right here," Hermione said stepping into the shop.
"Thank goodness," Myla said grabbing Harry's shoulder; before pushing him over to her mum.
Mom began to clean him off. "We'd hope you'd only gone one grate too far."
"Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Gilderoy Lochart," a co-worker announced. Everyone clapped as Lockhart stepped out from one of the back rooms.
"Mum fancies him," Ron informed as Mum fixed her hair. She nudged him.
"Make way there, please!" a reporter demanded as he made his way through the crowd. "Let me by Madam, thank you. Excuse me, little girl this is for the Daily Prophet." A few flashes ad Gilderoy's eyes locked on the boy that's been staying at the Weasleys for about a week.
"It can't be," Lockhart breathed. "Harry Potter?"
"Harry Potter!" the man in front grabbed Harry, pushing him to the front.
Lockhart pulled Harry close. "Nice big smile, Harry. Together, you and I are going to make the front page. Ladies and Gentlemen, what an extraordinary moment this is. When young Harry stepped into Flourish and Blotts this morning to purchase my autobiography, Magical Me..." Ron was annoyed by the people applauding as Myla glanced up to see Draco staring down at Harry. "Which incidentally is currently celebrating its 27th week atop the Daily Prophet bestseller list, he had no idea that he would in fact be leaving...with me...entire collected works...free of charge." Harry did not seem pleased to be holding the books, there was a flash from the reporter. "Now, ladies." Gilderoy began to sign away books as Harry walked back to the others.
"Oh, Harry give me those and I'll get them signed," Molly urged. "All of you, wait outside."
"I'll see you out," Myla said. "Still here for a bit." It didn't take long for them to get to the front.
"Bet you loved that, didn't you Potter?" Draco asked as he rushed down the steps. "Famous Harry Potter, can't even go into a bookshop without making the front page."
Ginny stepped up; glaring harshly. "Leave him, alone."
"Look, Potter," Draco teased. "You've got yourself a girlfriend."
Lucius pushed Draco aside with his cane. "Now, now, Draco, play nicely." He looked forward. "Mr. Potter." He held out a hand. "Lucius Malfoy." Harry shook it. "We meet at last." Mr. Malfoy pulled Harry close to get a look at Harry's scar. "Forgive me. Your scar is legend, as, of course, is the wizard who gave it to you."
"Voldemort killed my parents," Harry said as he got out of Lucius's grip. "He was nothing more than a murder."
"You must be very brave to mention his name, or very foolish," Lucius taunted.
"Fear of a name only increases fear of the thing itself," Hermione said.
Lucius looked at Hermione. "And you must be Miss Granger. Yes, Draco's told me all about you and your parents." They glanced over. "Muggles, aren't they?"
Lucius looked at the others. "Let me see, red hair, vacant expressions." He took a book from Ginny. "Tatty secondhand books...these must be your siblings Myla."
"Seeing you both together I can see where Draco gets that stupid look from," Myla responded with a smile.
"Children," Dad greeted as he joined them. "It's mad in here...Myla we will see you later."
"Well, well, well---Arthur Weasley," Lucius greeted.
"Lucius," Dad nodded coldly.
"Busy time at the Ministry, Arthur, all those extra raids?" Lucius asked. "I do hope they're paying you overtime" He looked at the book. "By judging by the state of this, I'd say not. What's the use in being a disgrace to the name of wizard if they don't even pay you well for it?"
"We have a very different idea about what disgraces the name of the wizards, Malfoy," Dad argued.
"Clearly," Lucius said; he looked at Hermione's parents. "Associating with muggles..." He put Ginny's book and an extra one in the cauldron. "And I thought your family could sink no lower." Dad launched himself at Mr. Malfoy; pushing him into the bookcase. Fred and George cheered dad on.
"You are not that slick," Myla said as she took a torn paper from Draco's pocket.
"But I made the effort of ripping it out of the book, it's mine now," Draco argued as he went to go grab it.
Myla moved her hand. "If you made a better effort then you would have had the chance to walk out with it." She looked up at him. "It's people like you that give thieves a bad name." Hagrid ended up pulling the two adults apart, the Malfoys quickly left the bookstore.
"I'm sorry if I embarrassed you, sweetheart," Dad apologized as he wiped the blood from his lip.
"You did no such thing," Myla denied; she kissed him on the cheek. "See you at home." With that Myla's family and Harry left for the burrow.
After a long day in Diagon Alley, Myla came home to a plate set out for her. She told mom and dad how the rest of the day went before hurrying up to Ron's room.
"Harry," Myla greeted as she opened the door, the two doors were playing wizard chess.
"Knock!" Ron shouted as he got to his feet. "We could've been naked!"
Myla rolled her eyes. "You don't get ready for bed for another two hours."
"What if we wanted to turn in early?" Ron asked as he flopped back on the bed.
"We weren't going to," Harry said.
"Harry!" Ron groaned as he made a move.
"I heard from Hagrid that you were in Knockturn alley," Myla said as she sat in the chair. "Did you go anywhere cool?"
"I ended up in Borgin and Burkes, thankfully Hagrid was there help me out of that dodgy place," Harry said.
"Myla goes down that alley a lot," Ron informed; Harry looked at Myla oddly. "She used to get a lot of dark magic items from Mr. Malfoy's pockets."
"Do you still go down there if nothing to see to Mr. Borgin?" Harry asked.
"Sometimes," Myla admited. "I am a well known thief, me being down there isn't much of a stir then if someone caught you down there." Harry seemed a bit unsure. "Harry, I don't need dark arts to use on you, I can just trip you."
"You and Hagrid will be the only ones I trust that go down that alley," Harry admitted.
