Chapter 6

Observation is a weapon

"I still don't consider this the best idea." You murmured under your breath as you tightened the hold on the books you were carrying, while fixing the Bluetooth device in your ear to make sure that he was still listening on the line.

"I could have pretended to be something else. Why do I have to pretend to be qa student? I graduated once. I really don't want to do this again." Your whining on the phone made Jimin roll his eyes as he stood in his office, typing away on his computer while listening to you simultaneously, as he too had his earphones on.

"You said yourself that you needed to get close to the others to make things go in the direction you wanted."He reminded you, and you just let a sigh escape your lips as you understood that indeed, if you wanted to be friends with Sira or Taehyung, being a student among them would give you the best chances to do that, but it also came with a lot of memories and responsibilities you weren't exactly fond of.

"What if they get to know that I didn't really transfer here? What do I do if a professor asks me about paperwork?" You halted your steps as soon as that terrifying thought crossed your mind.

" No one asks about such things. It's a given you must have already brought in the paperwork to be accepted in the university to begin with. And you don't have to go by the secretaries to get yourself enrolled in any classes, since I have already told all my colleagues to add you because I claimed the secretary's office requested me for help. I told them that their system would be adding you with a delay." Jimin's words echoed in your ears, making you admire momentarily how fast his thinking was, given the fact that just early morning hours you had stated your need to befriend the other characters and how quickly he had just made a way for you to do that.

"You sure are impressive. No one would doubt your word, so that's really foolproof." Your words made a smile reach his lips as he halted his fingers above his keyboard and looked over towards his phone that had written his old number on the screen, as he had given it to you along with his old phone, since you had none to use.

"Exactly, and I will make sure no student doubts my relationship with you either. For I will treat you just like I would any other student that dares to switch to my class mid-semester."

"WHAT?!"Your voice rose unintentionally, making you get some glances from some passing students in the hall you were walking in.

"We never agreed on such a thing!"You lowered your voice and your head as you replied, while simultaneously picking up your pace to get away from their glances as quickly as possible.

"Hello?..." You heard nothing on the line, though, so you rushed to get your phone out of your pocket to see if he had hung up on you, but while doing so, you ended up bumping into someone since you weren't looking properly, and the phone ended up falling on the floor.

"Sorry about that." Taehyung leaned over and grabbed the phone for you, pausing to look at it for a moment before he reached his hand towards you. "This is yours, right?" He flashed you a smile, and you just stood there for a moment, bewildered by the unexpected appearance of him.

"Ah yes, it's mine. Thank you." You snapped out of it and smiled back as you retrieved the phone, and his smile widened as he tilted his head to the side.

"I hope it still works. If not, I can replace it for you."

"Oh no no, it works, see."You stepped on the lock button, and the lock screen flashed to life, revealing a random wallpaper of a nonsensical scribble Jimin had set. You had yet to customize this phone to your taste, so it was left like that.

"That's a relief." Taehyung placed his hand over his chest as he spoke, eyes lingering at the phone briefly; then he took a few steps forward, making you freeze in place. "I haven't seen you around before, but you do feel familiar. Do I know you from somewhere?"

"I just moved to this city, got transferred here, so no,  I don't think so." You managed to give a casual reply despite his overstepping of personal space, and he pulled back, looking full of joy.

"That's great. I have been aching to make new friends. I am Taehyung." He extended his hand for a handshake, and you smiled back as you rushed to place your phone back in your pocket and give him the handshake, but before you could do so, a hand reached out to your arm and held you.

"Oh, there you are. I have been looking for you." Sira flashed you a smile as she pulled you in closer towards you, leaving you staring at her with wide eyes as she proceeded to ignore Taehyung's existence and drag you away from there.

What the heck, does she know who I am?

"Girl, I know we don't know each other, but believe me when I tell you, you don't need that in your life." As Sira leaned in your ear and spoke those words, however, the panic that had just risen within you subsided, and you pulled yourself together to act as a stranger would in that situation.

"What do you mean? Wasn't he just being friendly?"

"He was, and he sure is very good at socializing, but he is also a player, and you seem to be new, so you know how that goes." Sira summed it up for you, and you pretended to be shocked as you both halted by the auditorium door.

"It was nice of you to give me the heads up then and get me out of the situation. And yeah, I am new. My name is Y/N." You took the chance to use this situation to your advantage and befriend her, and Sira reached out her hand to you enthusiastically and took hold of it softly.

"It's nice to meet you. I am Sira." Her cute smile made you feel giddy inside as she really was as joyful and sweet as you imagined her to be while writing about her. Those sparkling eyes and dazzling smile and the softness of her voice. She looked like a fairy.

"Such a pretty name."You complimented her as you let go of her hand. " Since I don't know anyone around here yet, would you mind if I were to ask you to show me around after this class is over?" You laid the offer quickly, as this would be the perfect chance for you to be with Sira all day, and you were certain that you would click quickly since you already knew everything there was to know about her and her likes.

"Of course, I would love to. I have a feeling that we will become good friends." She stated as she linked her arm with yours and dragged you inside the classroom.

Sira proceeded to introduce you to everyone who was already there, making you feel a bit awkward with all the sudden attention that fell on you, but she gave you no chance to get shy and find a corner to hide, for she dragged you along to the seats her friends were occupying and you all ended up talking together. They all seemed very curious about where you had come from, so you spent some good minutes uttering whatever came to mind.

Some things were true, others were not, but it didn't matter, cause as time ticked, you started enjoying yourself in the moment. You had never had anyone be so eager to listen to you and make you feel this welcomed as a stranger. Your school life was nothing like that, and you had never had a huge group of friends that seemed to be full of joy and interest in your life. For a change, it made you feel excited, so you kept replying to whatever wonder they had, trying to fulfill their anticipation for an exciting reply.

"Professor Park is coming~"All that fun was ruined by the voice of another student who hurried into the auditorium, however, and everyone scattered around quickly, rushing to their seats, leaving you in confusion as you tried to do the same, but people kept shoving you around, as they were in a hurry, concluding with you being left the only one standing at the steps, as Professor Park made his first step inside the room.

You could feel the atmosphere shift as everyone seemed to have collectively stopped breathing, and the whole place became so quiet that it shocked you at how quickly the change was, for the chaotic noise was echoing in your ears just a moment ago.

"I guess someone decided to play with their life today." The first words that left his mouth made everyone turn to look your way as you pursed your lips and hurried all the way to the back, where there was an empty seat.

Sira's hand rose in the air immediately after you took your seat, gaining Jimin's attention. "Go ahead, Miss Sira." He gave her the right to speak, and she stood up soon after.

"It is Y/N's first day here, Professor. She just got transferred. She meant no disrespect." She informed him, as she was well aware that Mr Park was not known for tolerating people who waste his time in the classroom, and you being late to take your seat had done exactly that.

"Ah, right. I was informed about your presence earlier." Professor Park smiled slightly as he turned his attention back to his briefcase, and Sira sat back down in her seat, looking back at you to make sure you were alright. You two exchanged brief eye contact and some reassuring smiles, but Jimin's words cut short.

"Transferring mid-semester is certainly a risky move, but since they accepted you without any problems, it means you must be quite an extraordinary student, Miss Mun." Everyone's eyes were pinned on him as a smirk appeared on his face, and you just stared at him with wide eyes, knowing that look far too well.

No, please no...don't do it.

"Miss Mun sounds a bit distant; I call all my students by their name. You wouldn't mind if I did the same with you, now, would you?" He lifted his gaze to look towards you, and everyone else turned to do the same, letting the silence make you gulp harshly as he awaited your reply.

"Of course, I have no problem with -"

"Great. Miss Y/N it is then." He cut your reply short as he took hold of his book and stepped forward, leaving his desk behind. "How about you show us all how good of a student you are then, Miss Y/N?"

This son of a Bitch! I don't even know what is in that book! This is unfair, and he knows it !

You raged within as you tightened your hold on your pen and forced yourself to smile and nod.

"Excellent." His smile grew further as he opened the book he was holding and looked at it, then back at you, eyes narrow, and the pretended joy instantly switching to deadly seriousness as he uttered the question.

"Enlighten us, Miss Y/N. What do you think is the most controversial thing about Nihilism?"

Nihilism, I barely remember the term! He is trying to humiliate me~ He is evil!

Your thoughts rummaged as he started taking steps closer and closer towards you, with the book resting against his chest while his eyes were pinned on you, making you feel like a predator had just locked in and was coming to end you.

The faint smirk on his lips made you well aware that he was enjoying this, and that just made your nerves rise more, along with the anxiety that he was causing you.

He is a demon, alright. He never misses a chance.

Your leg started shaking restlessly under the desk while he finally arrived next to you and placed the book down before you.

"I assume you don't have one yet."  He uttered, loudly enough for others to hear, and everyone instantly understood that none of them had pulled out their books, so they all hurried to grab them out of their bag before they were to piss Professor Park more than he appeared to be.

Some could hear their heartbeat echoing in their own ears, and others were soothing themselves in their heads, hoping that they wouldn't be the ones grabbing the professor's attention today, while a certain someone just looked at you and Jimin from afar with a glimmer of curiosity in his eyes. For Taehyung had seen that phone earlier and had instantly recognised it as Jimin's older phone.

It even had the same crack on the screen, so there was no way he could miss it. Not to mention that it had the same lock screen wallpaper. He had acted clueless well enough as he gave it back to you and observed you, wondering if you could have stolen it or something, but yet again, how could you have possibly stolen it unless you were to have been in Jimin's private spaces? For he no longer carried it with him. No one has a reason to carry their old phone around every day when it's been a year since Jimin had bought the new one and was using it. Taehyung knew that well.

No matter if you had truly stolen it or not, however, one thing was certain to Taehyung, and that was that Mr Park was no stranger to you.

And I don't think you are a stranger to him either.

His gaze grew sharper as he observed every move. Then a faint smirk appeared on his lips as he tore his gaze away from you two, uninterested in the things you started uttering about Nihilism, for what he had been wondering about, he had solved it, and he had already made up his mind.

Whatever she is to you, brother, I will find out...and I will take it from you.
