Chapter 5

Searching For the New

Jimin rested his head against the car window as his eyes blinked slowly, observing the entrance of the company with the same disinterest he had had for an hour now.

"Do you plan to make me stay here all night?" He threw a glass at the passenger seat at you, who were watching around intensely, appearing determined to not miss anything.

"I told you, if we get to find where Jungkook lives, then certainly Y/N must be living with him. And to find Jungkook, we have to watch Areum. He will definitely come visit her, especially at nighttime. He is obsessed." You didn't bother to look his way as you spoke, for your mind was occupied in trying to spot Jungkook if he was to appear.

"I don't know who that guy is, but I don't remember seeing anyone around Miss Min," Jimin argued as he found all this a waste of time. Part of him regretted the fact that he told you that he knew where the Min company was when you had asked about Areum.

"You know nothing at this point. I can't take your view as credible. Just do as I say. I am working for your benefit after all!" You snapped at him, annoyed that he kept having something to say, and he just looked back at you, raising an eyebrow.

"And whose fault is it that my memory isn't credible?" He retorted, and you opened your mouth to speak and halted, then closed it again and looked away.

"Well, it doesn't matter who was at fault now. What matters is to fix it, so stop bothering me and become a bit more cooperative."

"Cooperative? I made you food, I brought you clothes, I let you stay in my mansion, and I drove you in the middle of the night. I think I am being more than cooperative."

"Given your character, you do have a point. You are doing more than anyone would think of." You cracked a smile at the fact as you looked at him, but his stern face made your smile fade.

"The only reason I haven't thrown you in the streets yet is that I need you to fix the mess you made, but don't push your luck." He warned you, and you gulped down harshly as you could tell that he definitely meant that.

You were already lost enough as it was. In a whole world you had never been in. With people that don't seem to be exactly as you thought they would be, and unfamiliar places. For when writing, you could only see specific scenes of places but never the addresses or the bigger viewpoint of where that room was located in the city. Having no place to live, if he were to throw you out would definite worse the situation for you.

"I definitely needed that reminder. My anxiety is making me agitated cause I want to fix this quickly so you can send me back." You admitted, looking apologetic, and he just let a heavy sigh escape his lips before he let his hand travel through his hair.

"Actually...about that..."

"About what?"

"The sending you back part." He added as he turned to look at you again, and you held eye contact for a few seconds before your eyes widened.

"Ain't no way you brought me here without knowing how to get me back!" You raised your voice, and he matched it with his reply.

"I told you I didn't know that you would be physically getting here, for real. It just happened!" You scoffed at him as you felt your nerves rising, but then you forced yourself to keep your mouth shut and just left some exhales of frustration echo in the car as you were looking around, huffing and puffing and moving your hands in the air in weird motions.

"Oh. Oh! What was that? Did you make a choking motion in the air right now? Do you want to choke me?!" He gestured at your hands, with an expression that literally screamed 'how dare you?' and you looked at him and froze for an instant, then you retrieved your hands quickly and plastered a smile on your face.

"Of course not. I would never do such a thing to the person who is giving me shelter above my head." Your fake politeness and friendliness had him rolling his eyes at you and turning to look away, for he couldn't stand your smiling face at that moment.

She was good as an author, but in person she is unbearable.

He thought right before he felt you hitting on his arm repetitively."What?!" He snapped his head around and found you pointing at the window, to a guy who seemed to have just stopped with his car by the entrance of the MIN company.

"That's him. That's Jungkook. Keep your eyes on him no matter what. Don't lose him!" You ordered him, and the vehicle fell into silence for minutes after, while you both had glued your eyes on the entrance waiting for Jungkook's figure to get out.

"Does he always take this long visiting his girlfriend?" Jimin murmured after a while, and you smiled a bit as you replied.

"He wishes. Areum ain't his girlfriend yet. They are best friends." You informed him, and Jimin just nodded, not really caring much about the life of someone he didn't even know much. Even Areum, he just knew her on a business level because his father's company and her father's company had an ongoing cooperation.

"He is one more person who, if he were to remember the happiness I gave to him the took away, would want to kill me..."You stated out loud your realisation and laughed, despite the fact that there was nothing funny about it.

"This is lowkey fun. Like so many people would hate me and want to torture me for this, but I am the only one who knows." Your expression lit up full of enthusiasm, and Jimin just observed you in confusion.

"Like, imagine, I can make them all suffer again. Like I can get them into a situation they would be panicking but not being able to avoid it. Oh my, this is so exciting! My mind is finally working! I am getting so many ideas right now." You clapped your hands in excitement as you spoke, joy beaming from your face as you looked at his expressionless face.

"Are you sure you aren't evil?" His question made your smile freeze momentarily, and then all your joy dropped from your face, and you looked at him.

"Have you never heard of fangirling before?"

"No." He didn't hesitate to reply, and you smirked.

"Makes sense. Why would you know anything that is related to fun anyway."

"Excuse you. I am a lot of fun!" Jimin protested, and you raised an eyebrow at him, making him halt his words and correct himself. "Used to be."

However, his correction made you laugh, finding it pathetic because it was true but also hilarious because of the way his serious face made it seem.

"I think we will need to get some ground rules between us. You are being way too comfortable." He didn't seem to appreciate your laughter.

"Oh come on. I know everything about you. I know more than any person around you currently knows. Doesn't that give me a pass to be more comfortable?"

"No." His straightforward reply made you look at him, annoyed again, and you just sighed and rolled your eyes away from him, thankfully catching Jungkook getting into his car right that very instant.

"Follow him!" You urged, and Jimin didn't hesitate to turn on the engine and follow Jungkook's car around the city for about 35 minutes, till he entered a parking lot of a building and got out of his car and to the elevator.

You rushed to get out to follow him and get in the same elevator with him, ignoring Jimin's voice that called out to you, because he had to park his car and he couldn't follow you. You just waved back at him and made a sign for him to wait there, as you rushed and managed to halt the elevator door from closing, right on time.

Jungkook seemed a bit caught by surprise by the sudden hand appearing out of nowhere to halt the door, but he did press the button to help open the door faster; then he greeted you with a nod, like he would with every stranger, while you smiled back and pretended to look around as the doors closed again.

He looked your way once or twice, wondering why you had yet to press any number to go to your floor, since he had pressed his, but then he thought that maybe you could have been paying a visit to someone on his floor and that was the reason why you didn't need to press another number, because the elevator was already going where you needed it to go.

Once the door opened and set you free, you stepped out with him, and he gave you a polite nod before he quickened his pace, heading down the corridor towards his door. Since his apartment was the last door down the hall, he was expecting you to halt somewhere before him, but you followed a few steps back, pretending to be looking at the apartment doors and their numbers.

Once he unlocked his door, however, and pushed it open, you swiftly chrimed in." Oh, this is the apartment number I was looking for. Do you live here?"

Jungkook looked at you, perplexed as he turned his eyes at his apartment door, then back at you before he gave a soft positive reply. " Yes"

"Ah, you must be Y/N's roommate then. I am looking for her. " Your words made his face morph into further confusion as he stared at you.

"Maybe you are in the wrong building. I live alone here." The way shock crossed your facial features reinforced his thought that you had the wrong building, for if this was the number you were looking for, then definitely the building must be wrong. Many people confuse these apartment complexes cause they look alike after all.

"Alone?! You can't live alone. You never lived with anyone?" Your questions got him looking weirded out, so you quickly gathered yourself and rephrased your statement. "I mean, are you sure this isn't the right place? Maybe a girl named Y/N lived here before you, or something. Have you heard the name?"

"I am really sorry, but I don't know anyone with that name." Jungkook stepped into his apartment and gave you a polite smile before he tried to close the door behind him, but you placed your palm on it and pushed it open, making him look at you with wide eyes.

"Can I take a look? She has to be here!" You insisted as you pushed your way in, feeling like the world was closing in on you. His voice rang behind you, calling you crazy among some other words that stated that you weren't allowed to break in his private place, but none of those words stopped you from rushing to the room that was supposed to be Y/N's.

The furniture was the same, but the room was empty. The bed had no bedsheets. No decorations or ornaments were placed anywhere, and the closet doors were open and empty too.

"I will seriously call the police. What the heck is wrong with you?"Jungkook yelled at the doorstep, finding the audacity of you, as a stranger, to be totally out of line, but you just turned around and pushed him aside as you rushed around the apartment, looking at the rooms to make sure this really was the right place, and it was. Everything was exactly how it was supposed to be. The only thing missing was Y/N.

"I have had enough." You heard Jungkook's voice as he lost his temper and grabbed you by the arm, dragging you towards the exit as you just kept looking around, lost in your head. Until you found yourself getting pushed out the door and met his angry eyes that were staring you down.

"I don't know what the heck is wrong with you, but take your mental problems somewhere else!" Jungkook closed the door on your face after he left that statement echoing in the atmosphere, and you just stood there blinking before your hands made their way to your hair.

"If she is not here either, then where is she? Don't tell me she doesn't exist." The thought that crossed your mind made your eyes grow wide, and your hands gripped your head as if you were having a severe headache. Images kept flashing in your mind as you were searching for all the information you had and all you had written. Why would Y/N not exist, of all people, when all the other characters do?

Oh my god...She is the only character I made up...I designed her after myself...It was me putting myself in the story...and now that I am here, she can't exist, cause she is me...

The realization held your breath as you looked to the side and saw the elvatro door's opening and allowing Jimin to get out, for he was halting on every floor, trying to find you. His figure stepping down the halls slowly made your heartbeat pick up.

If he finds out that the version that he fell in love with disappeared because of me, and I can't bring her back cause I can't create people from thin air while being here...he will kill me.

"Y/n," He called your name as he kept getting closer, and you just stared back while your mind was overloading.

But even as a writer, I can never bring her back the same, cause I erased her once. I can never write her the same way. Even if I get back to my world and manage to write the 3rd book, I can never bring back to him what he once lived...How do I tell him that it's impossible?

"Y/N, what's wrong?" He questioned you as he held your shoulders, looking concerned over your unmoving figure. "Did he do something to you?"

"No." You forced yourself to snap right back and plastered a smile over your face, then you took hold of his arm and turned him around, dragging him along on your way back towards the elevator.

"Nothing like that. It just turned out that she wasn't there. We will find another way to find her. Don't worry." You reassured him as you felt him stiffening under your touch, and his face fell visibly into disappointment.

I will just have to find him someone else he can fall in love with. Someone else who could love him the same as Y/N did. He doesn't remember her face, so I can claim it is whoever I choose. And about the name, I can just claim that it got altered for whatever reason.

"Don't give me that face. I know it's tiring, but we will find a way to find her. " You uttered words way different than your thoughts were. For inwardly you were trying to save yourself from the mess you couldn't undo. And give back to the character what you had stolen from them, at the same time.

Even if it was to be a lie, you were the writer. You could make anything true. So why not this one also? If you could achive to give him back the happiness and stability of life he once had and be able to get out of this world yourself too, then a lie was too little of a price to pay to achieve that.

And you could make it happen, even though you couldn't mold characters from thin air, nor alter people's personalities, and you couldn't force anyone's feelings either. You still could manipulate situations, environments, and people. Like cultivating a crop, if you were to provide the right components and atmosphere, you could kickstart someone's interest in someone.

The problem was: who to choose? Who was the most suited person to replace the Y/N of this world?
