Chapter [6]
All day, all night, I could only listen to Sunny's beautiful singing. It's like the only sound the world has. His voice. His soft and beautiful voice. In fact, it's the only sound I wish I could ever hear in all my days. I could be there, lying on my bed, dying, and listening to him sing to me softly until my eyes close shut and my heart stops beating for him. That's what it would be like when I'll die. In my opinion, I guess. Oh if it only happened.
"Beatrice!" I heard Sunny call me.
"Yeah?" I called back.
"I think I found something!" He replied. I instantly ran towards the sound of his voice. Correction: hi soft and sweet voice. I pushed through the giant bushes and leaves that were thrice my size. Then I found Sunny standing on the edge of the cliff. Oh god, what is he doing there, just standing still when there's a high chance that he can slip and fall?!
"Sunny!" I yelled. He turned around to me and smiled. I fast-walked towards him and grabbed his arm while pulling him away from the edge.
"Beatrice?" He looked at me.
"You could've died!" I said without looking back.
"I have my hair," He said while pointing at his orange hair. Our hair is our one self-defense. Therefore, we must always take care of it, or else we will die.
"That isn't an excuse," I finally let him go. He rubbed his arm. I could tell that I may have gripped his arm a little too tightly. Somehow, I see the hurt in his eyes. Great job. "I'm sorry," I said. I looked down. "I just can't risk having to lose you."
"It's fine," He said before taking something out of his hair. It was another strand of blue hair. I took out the glass container containing the other one. I compared the two and figured that they were different. Strange. They have the same exact colors, but different thickness. Might as well check again once we find a microscope. I put the two strands of hair in a container and put it away. Sunny became silent the entire time I was examining. Something's in his mind, Beatrice. Inquire him.
"Sunny? Everything ok?" I leaned my head down a bit to meet his eyes that were looking down. Our eyes met and he quickly looked away. "Yeah," He said. "Everything's okay."
I could tell he was lying. But why? I put my hand on his shoulder, hopefully giving him an idea that I was here for him. I'm always there for him. Gosh darn it, Beatrice! Tell him already! I can't But you have to! It's your last chance! But what if he doesn't feel the same? Well who cares?! All that matters is that you confess and everything will be better and somewhat awkward!
I shook the thoughts out of my head. "Sunny, I'm here for you. Tell me what's wrong." I said as he shrugged my hand off his shoulder. Ouch.
"It's alright. Really. Don't worry about it," he gave me a soft smile. A smile that's less brighter than the rest. Something isn't right about him. But what? "Listen, Beatrice. Everything feels so different than it used to. I mean, it's great having you and all, I just..."
"Just what?"
"Nothing. Never mind." He looked at me one more time. I could tell that he regretted everything about this conversation. He sighed and hugged me tightly, slightly lifting me off the ground. Maybe it was just because I'm really light or it's that he's really strong.
Suddenly, we heard a loud noise for a second. Sunny put me back down and let go from the hug. We both looked around to see where it came from, then he pointed at a direction where there was a blurry looking castle from really afar. "There! It came from there!"
"Great hearing," I complimented. He smiled at me and chuckled. I smiled back and looked at the castle from many miles away. I guess we having a lot of walking to do. "Cmon, let's get there as soon as we can."
"Alright," We started running forward to it. Sometimes we would even run on the branches that were twice the size of ten trolls and see where the castle was headed and followed it.
Somehow, I can't get the thought of my head on how Sunny has behaving these last few days. It's not... the Sunny I know. I felt something sticky on my arms. Then I glanced at it and saw yellow paint. I stopped running and looked at it. "What the—"
"Beatrice!" Sunny looked at me, then looked at the paint, then back at me. He looked nervous and somewhat scared but frustrated. "Why did you stop running?"
"I found paint," I said. "On my arm." He stared at it for a short period of time before rubbing his arm. He looked away. "Look, we don't have time for something like that. We have to keep going before the rest of the trolls are gone."
He was right. We have no time for something like this. But I wondered how the heck I got this smudge of paint on my arm. Maybe it's a freaking bird's dookie that landed on my shoulder without me even knowing. Great.
"Beatrice?" Sunny looked at me again.
"Yeah, Sun?"
"You trust me, right?" He asked. Of course I do, what kind of question is that?
"Of course I do, Sunny," I said and gave a gentle smile. He smiled back a bit, but enough for me to actually enjoy seeing. His smile was enough for me to enjoy this day. Enough for me to be happy that I'm alive until this very day. I could tell that Sunny wanted to say something, so I kept quiet and let him talk. Honestly, I prefer listening to his voice than mine. My voice sounded like a female chicken dying. Or so I think so. Sunny always thinks that my voice sounds beautiful. He could be lying, though.
Sunny sighed in a way that I can't tell if he's happy or not, but then he smiled at me warmly and said softly, "I'm glad to have you as my friend."
A friend..
