Chapter [7]
I couldn't get the thought out of my head. A friend? Really? After everything?! I called myself down and thought for a moment. Maybe it was better that way. Maybe it was for the best. Maybe it should stay that way. I'm just a friend. A friend he only knows and only will. I glanced at Sunny who was walking in front of me. I noticed that Sunny's happy and optimistic personality was slowly going away like the sun setting down and letting the moon take over. Well, his name is Sunny.
I heard Sunny humming a song. It was rhythmic and catchy. It's almost as if I've heard it before. I mean, Sunny has sang a million songs before. How could I not recognize it? We stopped out tracks and stood on another cliff. But it was way lower than the one Sunny was firstly on. But it was about 10 meters to Bergen's. Which meant that it was ten times the size of them. Okay, I lied about the height. But I have to be honest, the view from up here is amazing. We saw Bergen Town and the giant castle in the center of it. It was huge and tall.
"Uhhh, Beatrice?"
"Yeah, bud?" I said, looking at him.
"I think we have company," he said quietly which made me turn my head. I met huge eyes that were shining bright. Slightly red and slightly yellow-orange. It had sharp and yellow teeth. Also terrible breath. It's a crocodile. I waved my hand, "Hi."
Sunny groaned and grabbed my hand. He jumped off the cliff, still holding onto my hand. I wanted to focus more on Sunny being so stupid and jumping off a cliff that can possibly kill us, but I also focused on the crocodile growling at us from the cliff which can possibly kill us if it gets to us.
Sunny whipped his hair and clung it to a tree branch, swinging us into a cave beneath the cliff which was from a giant mountain. He put me down as we both panted for air. Sunny chuckled. "At least that beats won't find us here. But where the heck did it came from?!"
"I don't know!" I yelled back and heard growling. I quickly covered Sunny's mouth and my own. Sunny mumbled something under my palm but I ignored him. We stayed in the cave for a while in silence, then the crocodile suddenly pounced in front of us. It growled at us, and reached its sharp nails in the small hole through the cave. Luckily, it's paw wasn't long enough to reach us at the very end of the cave.
We sat down to take a break. I noticed that my bag was fairly scratched and made holes and rips. I quickly searched through it and luckily found the two strands of blue hair that were yet to be examined. I put them back and took out a piece of chalk. I drew a line that was aligned to the crocodile's paw. "We shall never cross this line, ever."
Sunny took a breath, "Alright, Captain Beatrice." He sighed and leaned back against the cold rock. I sat down beside him and watched as the crocodile pulled out his arm and started roaming around the cave. Just great. I sighed and noticed that sun was setting. I also noticed that the crocodile was finally calming down as it laid on the dry grass to sleep. I gathered enough wood for us to create a bonfire. I gathered the wood before all of this happened. Including the sticks I always collect.
"Ugh," I heard Sunny mumble as I glance at him. His arm was bleeding. It had a cut and a wound. There was a sharp and huge piece of wood sticking out. I slightly gagged and knelt down to him.
"You alright?" I asked.
"Oh, I sure am," he replied sarcastically. I stayed quiet for a moment. He blinked and said, "I—I am so sorry. I didn't mean to say it like that."
"It's fine," I gave a soft smile. His first sarcastic words. Strange. He looked away as I searched for my tweezers. I looked up at him, "Alright, take a deep breath for me, okay? And don't move too much, it'll take way longer and it'll be more painful."
"Okay," He said.
"Okay," I said. He took a deep breath and looked away. I carefully grabbed the wood with my slightly large tweezers and very slowly pulled it out of his arm. He hisses and gripped onto the ground. I whispered soft words to him to calm him down. "You're doing great. Just take deep breaths. You can handle this," and I whispered so quietly that he probably never heard and said "I love you."
Suddenly, he finally calmed down and the wood was out. I smiled and wiped off the blood then wrapped his arm with a bandage. I dabbed a bit of ice (which I gathered in a really tiny cooler) on his arm to lessen the pain. Sunny glanced at it, and he sighed. He looked at me and smiled ever so slightly. "Thanks Beatrice. That would've ended way worse without you."
My cheeks burned and I smiled. "No problem, Sunny. Anything for you." He smiled back and looked at his arm again. He looked stuck about something, like something was stopping him from doing or saying something. I noticed by the look on his face.
"Beatrice?"
"Yeah?" I said while checking my bag.
"Can I tell you something?"
I paused and blinked. I turned to him. This is it. This is the day he rejects you. He heard you say it. You're gonna die alone. Good luck with that. Have fun being in the friend zone.
"Of course. Sure, yeah," I said calmly. I braced for myself for what is about to come. Sunny rubbed his other arm and looked away. He sighed and closed his eyes.
"I'm not who you think I am."
