Chapter [5]
The sky burned my face, which made my eyesight blurry as I slowly opened my eyes. I saw the sun shining up from the sky, but I couldn't see Sunny. I sat up from my sleeping bag and looked around. Where could he be?
I got up and put on my vest even though it had no difference to my usual outfit. I looked at Sunny's sleeping bag and saw that he crawled out of it before he went missing. I quickly packed everything up and started walking around, calling for the bright and colorful troll.
"Sunny?" I yelled.
"Sunny?!" I yelled even louder.
I yelled until I could feel my throat aching and telling me Enough please, he's gone. I didn't listen to that tiny voice. I honestly would, but I can't. I can't lose Sunny, not now, not today, not ever.
"Beatrice?" I heard a scream.
"Sunny! Where are you?" I screamed back, following that previous scream I heard from miles away. Like his singing.
"I'm over here!" He screamed.
I looked up to see Sunny hanging from a tree. He was on a tree branch, looking at something so small or thin that I can't even see. I see him looking down at something in his hand. "What's that?"
"A strand of hair!" He smiled and hopped down the tree branch. Unbelievable but predictable.
I said, "Sunny, what made you go off running away from our camp into the woods for some random strand of hair?!"
I saw him frown for a little while, but then he showed me this strand of hair that was blue. Slightly dark blue. Wait, blue hair? Does that mean there are more of us that has colors like Sunny? He's not the only one? He's not the only person of his whatever-kind of species? I grabbed the strand of hair and examined it. I needed to find a microscope and see the cells it's made of and how it works immediately.
"So?" Sunny asked, "what do we do with it?"
"We need to find a microscope for me to examine its DNA," I said and grabbed a glass container and slipped the strand of hair in it. It's amazing. It's tremendous. It's rare for me to see an actual hair strand of a colorful troll! I felt like my legs started to feel like jelly. I felt like falling.
"Woah, you might want to be careful." He laughed, and made sure my wobbly legs won't make me fall down.
"I can't believe it. I—I can't believe it!" For the first time, I was actually really really happy. Sunny wasn't so surprised, but he was smiling.
"Sunny?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm so happy!" I said and all of a sudden, hugged him. Sunny blinked a few times before hugging me back. What are you doing?! Pull away now! So I pulled away and saw Sunny's reaction; surprised, shocked, confused but proud. But I'm just that few seconds of hugging, it felt amazing. I wonder if Sunny had his first hug, and I wonder who he did it with, first. Obviously not with me. He's that kind of person who would hug about almost anybody. Unless it's a special kind of hug, you mean. Ever heard of Hug Day?
I sighed to myself and put the glass container in my bag and made sure it wouldn't break. I wrote something on a piece of paper, and Sunny peeled at it. "What's that?"
"We have a new quest for our agenda; Find the owner of the blue strand of hair." I said.
"Wait, what about the rest of the trolls?" He asked. I froze. Great job, Beatrice. You completely went off track! "I—I... uh..."
"Oh boy," Sunny mumbled under his breath. He probably thinks I couldn't hear him, but I could. "It's alright, Beatrice, we'll figure something out." Really? How?
"Cmon, I think I smell depression," I heard Sunny said and looked at him. Amazing, he even knows what depressed trolls smell like. Wait a minute.
I followed Sunny to some random river. He hopped onto a grey rock gracefully. Honestly, I would've fell if I were him. Just hopping onto a rock like that without even checking if it's stable or not! I stared at the rushing water passing around the hard rocks. The water was rushing 50 miles per hour. Yep, pretty fast and dangerous. I felt a few splashes of water landing on my feet and it was really cold. Definitely do not jump. I looked up a bit and saw a hand reaching out to me. Then I saw Sunny having his hand out to me, waiting for me to grab it.
Don't jump don't jump don't jump don't jump don't jump don't jump don't jump don't jump- I carefully and firmly grabbed his hand. I looked down again at the fast water, which frightened me a bit. "Look at me," he said. I did, and he was giving me that smile I always knew and recognized. "Don't look down, just focus on me."
I gulped and hopped onto the same rock Sunny was on. I felt my foot slipping off the very edge, but Sunny held me tightly, never letting me go. I looked up at him and saw his relaxing smile as he led me across the river. I sighed of relief when we made it to the actual ground. I hugged a random tree and never wanted to leave the ground again. Sunny looked at me and chuckled.
"Great job, Beatrice. You were brave."
"Um," I said. "Thanks?"
"Cmon, I think the smell is growing stronger," he said and ran away to follow the smell. I sighed and pulled away from the tree and followed him. This is gonna be a long day. I stopped for a second to think about earlier, then I searched through my bag and looked at the flower I kept in another glass container. I'm glad nothing bad happened to be flower...
"Beatrice! Cmon! Hurry up!" Sunny yelled.
"Coming!" I yelled back and put everything back in the bag and ran after Sunny who had his bright smile. Sometimes I even ask myself, why do you even like him in the first place?
