Chapter [16]

Sunny started heading back to the castle to check, because he knew for a fact that she wouldn't be anywhere else. He knew her, he knows her well. Of course, Star was with him. She kept trying to decide whether to really run away with the older troll or stay with the wicked chef. To her, it was a difficult choice. She was too young to make a decision that could possibly affect her life.
They finally arrived to the castle. The aura filling the spaces of the tall built-in bricks were gloomy. Dark, even.

Sunny and Star made it to the kitchen, hoping to see Beatrice. He felt as if its been years since he's last seen the grey troll, and it made him curious about his own feelings. Or whatever involved Beatrice.
For the past few hours, he couldn't stop thinking about the grey troll, as if she's living inside his own mind.

Her smile appeared for the millionth time again in his head. It was quite rare for Sunny to see Beatrice smile, it made him feel better. Probably because he's possibly the only person who's seen her smile. It also made him feel special in a way.

Star noticed him gazing off to space as he almost hits every possibly furniture he runs into. Luckily, he snaps back to reality before he gets hit. Star tried not to laugh. "You okay?"
"Yeah, just worried about Beatrice is all," he rubbed his eyes.

"Is Beatrice the troll you're always talking about?" Star asked, tilting her head a bit to get a better look at Sunny's face.
"Yes, Beatrice is my best friend," Sunny said quietly that Star didn't surprisingly heard. She crossed her arms with a smirk on her face. "Are you sure she's just a friend? Seems like you have a crush on her,"

"What? No," Sunny somehow thought he said the truth, but it mostly felt like he lied.

After what it seemed like an eternity, Sunny arrived in the kitchen. The only logical place you could find a troll in a Bergen's castle. Sunny looked around, calling out his best friend's name.
"Beatrice? Beatrice!" He heard grunting and quiet groans. He used his hair to grab onto a curtain holder from the wall and swung to the table in the center. "Beatrice?"

~~~~~
I heard a familiar voice. I saw his figure slowly walking towards me. His face could be barely be seen because of how damaged my vision became. I was weak. I no longer could move. I saw a troll beside him, much shorter.
"Beatrice?" His voice, slowly breaking into sadness. He quickly knelt down beside me and wrapped one arm behind my back to bring me up, while his other hand held my cheek. "What happened? Who did this to you?"
"Where's River? I sent her to go and find you..." my voice was slowly trailing away, slowly becoming whispers. My throat was dry, slightly bloody too. He rubbed the back of his neck, "Well, we didn't actually see her— that's because we went looking for you," He said softly, his thumb wiping a trail of blood off my lips.
"You idiot," I chuckled. It was a playful joke, and I was glad he found it funny because he laughed a bit.
Suddenly, I grunted in pain again. It reminded me the pain I witnessed earlier. Chef saw me in the trap, smiled evilly as she did so. She walked up to me, questioning where he went. For I, did not know, she did things she would never ever regret doing to a troll. She then left after that period of pain.
He saw the pain in my eyes, and a teardrop fell off his cheek. He shut his eyes tightly to not see me like this, but then he opened them again and decided to see me, specifically my own eyes. We looked into each other's eyes, and I felt that special spark from when I first met him. From when he picked me up when we were kids, just like he is doing this very moment.
I sighed, I had to confess before she would come back. "Sunny?"
"Yeah, B?" He whispered.
"Remember that one time when we were kids? When you idiotically cared for a poor soul like me, you helped me up?" I asked, my eyes starting to slowly shut. I was getting tired.
"Of course, it was the first time I met you," Sunny smiled at the thought, gently colliding his forehead against mine. I was bleeding a bit faster, even Sunny could notice. "What about it?"
"It was also the first time I loved you, specifically as a crush," I smiled weakly. He smiled as well. I know it may be that we were wasting time, but we both knew that it was too late for me to survive.
"You know what's funny?" He asked.
"What?"
"I always knew you liked me," he smiled wider. I saw his beautiful grin again. His cheeks looked redder, it made me laugh a little. Still, it was kinda obvious after all those things we did together, all those intimate moments...
"I liked you, too," he smiled sadly at me. His lips finally met mine and I felt my heart skip a beat. The troll behind him decided to look away and give us privacy.
I was basically screaming and crying at the same time, mentally. My first kiss with him. And also my last. After a few moments, he slowly parted away from the kiss and gave me a hug. I embraced it, because I knew for sure that I will miss it.
~~~~~

"Beatrice? Beatrice, Beatrice, Beatrice!"
"Sunny—,"
"Beatrice, don't leave me. Not now, please..."
"Sunny, she's—,"
"No, no. I'm not listening! I'm not losing her!"
"We have to leave before she comes back..."
"I'm so sorry..."

Tears formed in his eyes like the Nile river. He held her body tightly, crying on her shoulder as he sobbed. "I was too late..."

"I love you and I always will, Beatrice Leaf..."
