Chapter [15]

I finally arrived in the kitchen. River was right beside me, searching around the room. I was kinda surprised by River's words, though. Still, I don't like her. I remembered those times when we were children, she would laugh at me for whatever reason.
I also remember that one time she pushed me into a mud puddle. It was still disgusting in my mind. I could feel the feeling of mud on my arms. Then, of course, Sunny approached and held his hand out to me as I grabbed it. That's when I felt a spark just by the touch of our hands.

"Sunny?" I whispered as I walked around the kitchen. No response. Oh god. You're too late. Sunny's gone No he's here I know he is Then why isn't he responding? You failed to save the love of your life No no no I'll find him.
I continued to search around.

I started getting more and more worried. I climbed up the table Sunny was supposed to be on, which he wasn't, and saw that the cage was opened. I slowly approached it and saw all the blood from inside it. Tears formed in my eyes as I couldn't bare the thought of what they did to him. The blood was dry, somehow slightly fresh. River went up beside me and saw the mess. "Sunny..."

I failed.

I fell on my knees and started crying. No no get up. Don't be so pathetic. Sunny's gone. I couldn't stop the tears like the continuous flowing of the Nile river. River kneeled beside me and rubbed my back. It didn't comfort me. Nothing in this moment would. Except seeing Sunny's warm smile.

Sunny was hiding behind the door, waiting for the guards to pass him. But they stayed and guarded. Typical.
"So what's your name?" Star suddenly asked him, which kind of surprised the older troll considering that they were supposed to be stealthy. Sunny's eyes widened a bit, then he looked down at her. "My name's Sunny,"
"Hi Sunny," she smiled. It was the first time he's seen her smile. She had a beautiful one, indeed. It immediately reminded him of Beatrice.
Sunny's cheeks burned as he quickly looked away so the younger troll wouldn't see him.

Finally, the Bergens walked away. Sunny nodded and was about to say something, specifically to Beatrice, but then he looked over his shoulder and realized that she wasn't with him. He frowned with disappointment. He missed her.
He quickly ran out of the door that was wide open and went through the gates. Then he stopped and looked at Star. "Come along with me, we'll take care of you better than this Bergen mess,"

"No thanks, but I'd... rather stay," Star rubbed her arm, looking away. Sunny kneeled down to reach her height. Star looked at him as he looked back.
"Chef is gonna kill you if you get back, do you realize that?" Sunny asked softly. Star was a bright frightened, so she nodded. "Let's go,"

And so, they ran along with the other group of trolls. Sunny searched and searched for Beatrice, though he could not find her. Star just followed the tall troll, regretting ever running away from the Bergen castle that was in fact, her childhood. She grew up in the castle, in the command of Chef. She never met her parents, either. Each night, she would glance out the window and wonder How in the world did I end up here with such a cruel Bergen also known as Chef? She never got the answer just yet. Yet.

Sunny approached a blue looking troll. He had tall dark blue hair and a green vest with stitched up shorts. Sunny tapped on his shoulder, "Um, excuse me?"
The troll turned around and he had bright blue eyes as well. Star just stayed quiet, even though she wanted to say something. "Have you seen a grey troll? You know, who released you?"

"Uh, no. The only person who released us was Bridget. I don't remember seeing you in the pot," he said suspiciously. Suddenly, a pink troll stepped out from behind him. "I apologize about him, he's, uh... something,"

The pink troll looked at Star and smiled while waving. Star waved as well, a bit shy. Sunny was confused, "Cmon, you have to tell me at least something."
"Hmm, now that I think of it, I did see a second pot from somewhere in the kitchen. There were screaming, and I heard a voice that I didn't recognize, she said something about a troll named Sunny—,"

"Beatrice," Sunny mumbled under this breath. He quickly looked back at the pink troll again, carefully trying not to look crazy in front of them. "What else did the voice say?"
"Well, I also heard it saying about something about a troll named Star as well,"

Star gulped. She hid behind Sunny, trying not to get involved. Sunny shook his head and decided to ask more questions. "Have you seen or heard where the voice went? You know, the troll you heard," his heart started beating fast.
"I'm sorry but— no," the pink troll with a blue dress apologized.
Sunny sighed and sat down on a nearby log. The blue troll grabbed the pink troll's hand, slowly dragging her away. The pink troll refused, but the other troll gave her a look that she sighed and decided to leave with him. The couple left.

"I lost her, I failed," Sunny wrapped his own arms around him, feeling the need to hug someone, especially Beatrice. "She should've been here, what am I doing wrong?"
"First of all, get up," Star commanded. Sunny did as said. He rubbed his arm, looking down. Star tried reaching his height by jumping, but couldn't. Sunny hid a smile and decided to kneel down in front of her.

"You are gonna find whoever the heck you're finding. You can't give up now," Star said while Sunny smiled.
"For her," Star whispered. "Say it,"

"For her," he whispered back.
