Volume Fifteen

"How's your classes going?" Reem asked me as we drove.

"It's cool, I'm almost done. I have three days left then I take the test."

"You like it so far?"

"Yeah, it's easy work and I don't have to do too much. A job is a job though." I shrugged.

"Where you wanna eat at?"

"Honestly, I just wanna sleep." I yawned. "You could just drop me off home."

"You can't come by me?"

"Yeah Reem." I rolled my eyes as he lowkey smiled. "I don't know what you smiling for."

"Shut up." He mushed my head.

"You missed me?" I asked yawning.

"Everyday."

"Even the days you stood me up?"

"Jaelyn don't start ya shit."

"Don't tell me what to do." I shrugged as Dai called my phone. "Yes?"

"Where you at?"

"I'm on my way to Reem house, where you at?"

"Pulling up to the house, you still going with my cousin to dress shop tomorrow right?"

"Yes, I promise you your sister better not come cause I'm going to whoop her ass! I'm not sparing that bitch at all."

"She not coming but you going to see her at the party so-"

"I'm not going to touch that girl at your grandfather party but baby when I catch her imma do her worst than the first time."

"As long as you don't ruin my PopPop birthday."

"That's my main manz, I wouldn't do that." I said making him chuckle.

"Aight, imma go. Text me if you need me to come pick you up or sumn."

"Okay DaiDai." I smiled hanging up as I looked at Reem since he been in my face since I answered the phone. "Yes?"

"Nothing." He shrugged like he had a attitude and the minute he take that shit out on me I'm leaving.

"Why don't your sisters like me anymore?"

"They found out I wasn't who I said I was." He said making me look at him. "They found out I sold drugs, tote guns and allat."

"What do that have to do with me?"

"They just now finding out as I started being around you so they attempted to put two and two together and assumed you were the bad influence."

"I hate shit like that." I rolled my eyes. "Can't nobody be a bad influence on your life, if you a follower don't make it seem like somebody influenced you to do it."

"So that's what they were talking about, they decided not to like you but I finally told them the truth and they wanna apologize."

"Nah, I'm good. I'm not accepting apologies no more. If you did or said anything to me then you mean that shit."

"You was big on apologizing."

"And now I'm not, I don't care anymore."

"So you don't forgive me? You don't care about me no more?"

"If I didn't care about you you wouldn't even be in my presence." I shrugged. "We're cool Reem, we always will because you hold a real special place in my heart. You helped me find myself after my heartbreak, you learned me and for that I will forever be grateful for you. But you also made you unreliable."

"And that's my fault but you see a nigga start getting shot and shit when I'm not around you." He said making me laugh.

"That's cause I always had ya ass in the house with me."

"I could ask you a question?" I nodded. "You still wanna be with me?"

"That's a question I can't determine right now. I know I still have feelings for you though because I still think about you."

"I never stopped thinking bout you."

"Because you wasn't the one who was done wrong but we're not dwelling on the past."

"You sure you ain't hungry?"

"I'm just tired."

"Aight Imma bring you in the house then go to Walmart to get a little stuff."

"Okay." I yawned.

"So are you Dai girlfriend?" His cousin Miya asked.

"Nah, we're friends."

"With benefits?" She smirked making me laugh.

"No, strictly friends."

"He usually don't spend money on bitches, excuse me I call everybody bitches, without getting something."

"We just friends who enjoy each other, we haven't fucked or caught feelings, we just cool."

"You gotta be something serious, especially to be around me. He know I don't like bitches."

"And he know I wouldn't give a fuck." I shrugged.

"As you shouldn't, bitches be wanting to kiss ass just to be cool with a nigga family."

"And be looking dumb cause when that nigga cheating on you, they cheating on you too."

"Periodt." She laughed. "My cousin only got eyes for you sis."

"I'll never go out like that." I laughed. "I got cheated on once and now I'm done with relationships, one and done sis."

"Good because Dai don't do relationships, as he probably told you."

"He did and it's fine cause we here with each other."

"I heard you got beef with Nia."

"I'm going to beat her ass when I see her outside of y'all grandfather party, she only getting a pass cause I like y'all grandfather but baby when I catch her, whew chile."

"Over a nigga?"

"First of all, if this was over Shep I would of took him back. I'm going to fuck her up because this bitch let the dick make her feel like motherfucking cat woman so Imma knock her the fuck out."

"Here go Dai calling my phone, we taking too long."

"You." I corrected making her laugh.

I started texting back people as I called Esme because she was supposed to meet me at Dai house to fix my hair but I bet this bitch went to sleep. Knowing she did when she didn't answer I frowned rolling my eyes, luckily she called right back.

"Yes sister?" She asked.

"Where the hell you at?"

"Work, I'm bout to leave in like five minutes. You got makeup over there?"

"I have nothing."

"So makeup and hair shit. Okay, I'll be there in twenty minutes top."

"Okay, thank you sister." I smiled hanging up.

"You ready to go?" She asked making me nod.

Driving to Dai house it was a whole thirty minutes, she dropped me off as I seen Esme get out her car. I hugged her then opened the door to Dai house with my key, I jumped in the shower before anything then just sat there with my bra and panties as she started on my face.

"What you want? A natural beat? A glam beat? A whole set?"

"I don't know what none of that mean but I want some over the top shit, like I want that glitter eye shadow."

"So you want a glam." She nodded.

"I really want you to come with me."

"You keep saying that like that's your family."

"So what? I asked Dai he said it's fine, it's not like it was a date or something. I want you to come get cute with me."

"Jaelyn, I didn't bring nothing with me."

"And that's why I bought you something." I smiled at the heels and dress I placed on the bed.

"You so fucking sneaky."

"Thank you." I smiled. "While I get dress go take a shower and then beat the fuck out your face so we can get cute as fuck."

"Fine." She rolled her eyes going to the guest bathroom as Dai Facetime'd me. I declined it calling him regular.

"Why you do that?" He asked.

"I don't want you to see me until you see me."

"Dramatic." He chuckled.

"I got Esme to finally agree to come."

"That's good, she need some fun."

"Right, same thing I was saying."

"My cousin said she likes you, said you was dope and real as fuck."

"I don't know how to be anything else." I shrugged.

"Somebody gon be outside to come get you in like fifteen minutes, make sure you lock up everything."

"Okay, I'll tell you when I'm outside."

"Bet."

I heard the doorbell ring fifteen minutes later but we wasn't no where near ready. I chuckled going to the door seeing JoJo, I hugged him then let him in.

"Why he ain't just say you was coming?"

"Because he dramatic like your ass, you ready?"

"I'm waiting for my sister."

"Jaelyn, I don't like this dress. It shows my stomach."

"Girl, you're nine months pregnant. You need something to show your pregnant."

"Jaelyn, I feel like I'm fat as fuck. My feet look fat as hell coming out this-"

"You perfect." Jojo said like he was in a trance making me laugh.

"Jaelyn, you got me crying and shit not letting me know people here." She wiped her face. "Thank you Jojo."

"You welcome, you could wear my jacket like a cardigan so it could hide your stomach."

"See solution."

"Okay, fine." She took the jacket. "And it go perfect, you sure you not gon want it?"

"Nah, it fit you better anyway."

"Okay, thank you."

"You ain't tell me I was perfect."

"Girl." He said making me laugh. "You perfect sis."

"Thank you Jolene."

"Stop calling em that." He glared at me making me bust out laughing. "Imma be in the car just come out when y'all done."

"Bet."

We took like another fifteen minutes just to be ready, well Esme did because she kept questioning everything but once she was satisfied to her liking we left. I was in the back while she was in the front because I thought she would be more comfortable there.

"You could tell Dai we pulling in." Jojo said making me nod as I called him.

"Wassup love?"

"We pulling in now."

"I'm coming." He said as I hung up.

I got out the car pulling out my phone to make sure everything was perfect, I started to take pictures with Esme which turned into a photoshoot because she started to take my pictures and I took hers which led Jojo to take both of ours.

"Y'all look beautiful." Dai smiled coming to hug both of us, kissing me on my cheek. "Come on."

Jojo held his arm out for Esme to grab as Dai did the same, I smiled accepting as we started walking. We had to walk down some stairs to get into the party and it seemed like everything stopped because all eyes was on us, even the music stopped. I felt like royalty.

Dai walked us over to his grandpa and I smiled hugging him. "Hey papa."

"Jaelyn!" He coughed standing up. "So damn beautiful, who's this other beauty?"

"My sister Esme."

"Beautiful." He smiled. "Make sure I get a dance from both of you."

"Thank you." Esme smiled. "And okay."

Dai went all over introducing Esme and I to all his family members, he stopped at one table which occupied Nia, her mother, Dai father and Shep. I smirked as Nia smiled dropped, I guess nobody told her I was coming.

"Aye pops, this Jaelyn who I was talking about and her sister Esme." He said as he stood so I can shake his hand. "This my stepmother Kendra and y'all know Shep and Nia."

"Hi." I smiled waving then looked at Shep mushing his head. "Hey big head."

"You know I don't even play with you like that." He chuckled standing up to hug both of us. "Y'all look good as fuck."

"Thank you." I smiled hugging him. "Make sure you save me a dance."

"I have arrived!" I heard some lady yelled as Dai excused his self.

"Who that?" I asked Jojo.

"His mother."

"His mother?" I furrowed my eyebrows.

I watched Dai interact with his mother, I could tell he didn't know she was coming because he seemed embarrassed to have her near. He glanced at me then continuing to talk to her, they both walked over here as everybody looked.

"Jaelyn, this is my mother Gloria. Ma, this is my friend Jaelyn and her sister Esme."

"Y'all are beautiful." She smiled coming to hug me catching me off guard.

"Thank you." Esme smiled. "Can you come with me to get a drink?"

"Yeah." Jojo spoke as they walked away.

"You good?" Dai whispered in my ear making me look at him.

"Are you?"

"We'll talk about her some other time." He waved her off. "You really do look beautiful as hell, I can't stop staring at you."

"Well I do try." I smiled flipping my hair. "You look so handsome too."

He smiled just making me stare at him, he was so damn fine.

"Jaelyn, how do you know Shep?" Nia mom asked me.

"He was my boyfriend, he cheated on me with her, we broke up." I shrugged.

"You're the ex girlfriend who repeatedly harassed her?"

"Other way around." I looked at Nia. "She still call my phone everyday til this day."

Everybody at the table looked at her as she tried to look away in embarrassment making me laugh, how you gon try to lie like I don't have proof?

"I'm sorry for her." Dai dad spoke up. "She hasn't been herself lately."

"It's fine, I'm not losing sleep. I'm just going to change my number again and hopefully she don't find it this time."

"Would you dance with me?" Some boy who was no older than 13 asked holding his hand.

"Yes." I chuckled as a slow song played.

"Your girlfriend keep glaring at me." I smiled at her.

"She annoying as hell." He rolled his eyes making me laugh.

"Shep just break up with her." I shrugged.

"She won't let me, I try and try."

"Welp, that's who you wanted." I laughed making him laugh.

"This dance is over!" She pulled Shep as I heard them start arguing making me laugh.

I went back to the table pouring some of the liquor in a cup, I was too sober for my liking. Esme was talking to some ladies and Dai was dancing with his grandmother leaving me at the table by myself and I was fine with that, I was tired of talking to people.

"You good?" Dai asked coming to sit next to me.

"I'm bout to be." I smiled pouring myself another shot.

"Pour me up." He handed me a cup making me chuckle.

"You good?"

"Yeah, I just don't understand why would they invite her then not tell me. Like we know she not all that stable and she damn sure do not like most of these people."

"I like her." I shrugged. "She seem too real for most of them."

"She is but she has her problems."

"Who don't?" I asked looking at him.

"You right about that." He nodded as I poured him up some more.

"Stay away from Sterling! I'm not going to tell you no more." Nia spoke pushing my shoulder.

"If you touch me again I promise you on every single person here tonight, I will go to jail for attempted murder."

"You heard what I said! He cheated on you! He doesn't want you! You have my brother dick to suck leave my dick alone!"

"I just wish you see how stupid you look." I shook my head. "Honestly, I don't even wanna argue with you because it's sad."

"You think because you can beat me that will stop me from standing up to you?! NO!"

"Please get your sister." I looked over at Dai.

"Nia, stop because you love playing the victim and I really can't take this right now."

"Sterling will never be yours again bitch!" She picked up a cup and before she threw it Shep grabbed her hand.

"Yo, what is you doing? You being extra as fuck right now. The fuck is wrong with you?"

"Oou, the thoughts that was just going through my mind." I mumbled to myself. "Whew chile."

"You told me this bitch mother don't love her and that's the only reason you even went to her house, why are you still talking to her?!" She yelled making me look at Shep.

"Oh bitch, you attempted to hurt my feelings." I laughed. "Since we repeating shit Shep said-"

"I think it's getting a little too heated." Dai said.

"Shep told me he only with you because you won't leave him the fuck alone, he thanked the Lordt when you got that abortion because once he go to Kansas State he will never see you the fuck again. He wants to break up with you sooo bad but he tired of you trying to commit suicide, instead of you keep trying to check me you need to check your delusional ass into a psych ward. Now leave me the fuck alone!"

"You told her about Storm?" She asked crying making me start rolling.

"Bitch, you named a baby you aborted? This is retar-fucking-dation. I can the fuck not!"

"Bitch-"

"Relax." Dai pushed her back as she tried to lounge for me.

"Nia, come please." Shep said.

"Leave me alone!" She yelled making everybody look towards her. "Leave me the fuck alone! With that raggedy ass bitch."

"Die a painful death." I chuckled.

"That's very rude of you to say." I turned to see her mother and Dai father. "I understand you and my daughter have problems but don't wish death on her, that's very rude and distasteful on your character."

"No disrespect but your daughter literally have told me worst things so I understand what you're saying but until she gets into her mind that I'm not her enemy I'm going to say what you want."

"Then you can leave." She spoke. "This is my family event and you are a guest."

"You right, she is a guest my guest." Dai spoke up. "And she not going no where so enjoy your night and enjoy looking at her as she enjoy her night."

"Periodt." I added chuckling.

He don't even know how much he turned me on.

She got up and followed Nia as I turned to him with a smile.

"Thank you."

"You're my guest, no one is disrespecting you in my face."

"I've been in a situation where people let their family disrespect me so to hear you stand up for me-"

"Sissy, you okay? Why you tearing up?" Esme asked.

"She getting drunk." Dai chuckled. "She get emotional when she drunk."

"She deflee do." Jojo cosigned as I wiped my eyes chuckling.

"I think it's bout time we leave then." Esme said. "Plus my feet really hurts in these heels."

"Yeah, I'm down with leaving." I shrugged.

"Aight so look, Imma drop you off at my house then follow Esme home to make sure she good then drop Jojo off then come home to you. Okay?" He spoke.

"That's difficult, you don't gotta drive me all the way home-"

"You pregnant and your feet hurt so you not even driving at all." Jojo said making her chuckle.

"I am high key tired." She spoke.

"Let me say byes and I'll meet you outside." Dai said making us nod as we went outside.

"You enjoyed being Jojo date?" I asked Esme as he went to get the car.

"He's mad cool." She smiled. "And he's so polite, not once did he say anything inappropriate or make me look at him sideways."

"Baby, Dai and Jojo was raised by some strong independent ass women."

"It shows." Esme nodded.

"Y'all good?" Dai asked as Jojo pulled up making us nod as we got in the car.

"What's all this?" Dai asked once he came back in the house.

"Just a little something to show I appreciate you." I said looking at the hot bubble bath I started.

"I been knew that." He said as I started to unbutton his shirt.

"I know you tell me not to thank you for shit you do for me but it's hard to, we've known each other for a few months and I feel like I haven't known somebody for longer. A lot of people see different sides of me but you see me, the actual me and you actually wanna continue to stick around. I don't care if you don't feel the same but I love you Daine." I spoke. "Not just because I'm drunk but for real and I'm not saying this as a romantic gesture like I'm in love with you or something because I'm not, I just love our friendship and right now, you're literally the best thing in my life."

"I love you more Jaelyn." He kissed my forehead walking out.

I got into the bath as I felt the heat hit me making me feel instant relief, he walked back in with a fifth of Paul Masson then got in the tub slowly to adjust to the heat. We looked at each other then chuckled as he passed me the bottle.

"I didn't come and just make your life better, you made mine better too." He told making me smile. "Everyday, you're the reason I smile."

"Ass kisser." I smirked making him laugh.

I moved closer to him fighting bubbles to get out my way as I stopped when we were nose to nose, I looked at him in his eyes then closed mine leaning until I reached his lips. This wasn't no tap kiss.

This was a nasty ass kiss.

"Good morning." I yawned stretching.

"Your phone was ringing." He stood up naked as hell. "Imma go get dress so we could get something to eat."
