Chapter 12

Hey yall! Sry i was gone for so long, i've had a busy week. Hopefully this makes up for it. RainbowDrawz, pls don't kill me.

Natalie was running out of time. The infection was getting stronger. At first, it was nothing, but then when she got sick, they knew she was in trouble. "Her fever is higher, Zack." Sonja said. Zack felt his heart freeze. He couldn't lose her. Natalie was awake, but felt awful. "Do we have any idea of what this is?" Zack asked. Sonja shook her head. Zack sighed, then looked at the blackness that was traveling up her veins. "Let's put another cold cloth on her." Zack said. Sonja nodded, and got another cold towel and put it on her forehead. "Just hang in there Natalie." Zack said. Natalie nodded, then started to cough. Sonja got some water, and gave it to Natalie. "Thank you." Natalie rasped. Sonja nodded. Suddenly, they heard a knock on the door. "Guys?" It was Laff. "What do we do?" Sonja whispered. Zack looked at Natalie. She needed help. Zack went over to the door, and opened it. "Zack, where's Natalie?" Laff asked. Zack pulled Laff in, and then shut the door. "What is going on?" Laff asked. Zack gestured to Natalie, and Laff felt his heart stop when he saw her. "What happened?" Laff asked. "I don't know. It's some kind of infection, but it's spreading." Zack said. Laff looked at her arm, and her veins were black. Something about it made him feel uneasy. L4FF didn't like it either. "She hasn't been doing well. Severe symptoms." Sonja said. "I shouldn't have hid it. I knew I was running out of time." Natalie whispered. "Wait, you knew you were infected by something." Laff exclaimed. Natalie nodded. "Why didn't you tell us?" Laff asked. "I tried. But I just couldn't. When I tried to, I felt like something bad was going to happen." Natalie said. Laff knew that this was bad. Natalie suddenly groaned, and the blackness creeped up her neck. "We're running out of time." Sonja said. Laff looked at the blackness, and he felt like he'd felt this before. Natalie suddenly went limp. "Nat?" Zack asked, his voice breaking. Laff checked her pulse, and relief filled him when there was a steady beat. "Passed out." Laff said. Zack sighed. "I don't know what to do now." "Just let her rest. Head to the library and see if you can find any information." Laff said. Zack nodded. He and Sonja left Laff alone with Natalie. He sighed as he looked at her. "Can nothing go right?" he whispered to himself. He left the room, a feeling in his gut that something bad was going to happen. Back down at the village, Socks had finished taking a nap, when he started hearing something. Or someone. He didn't like it, but thought it would just fade over time. But it only got louder. "You okay Socks?" Tbh asked. "This is going to sound stupid, but I think I'm hearing voices." Socks said. Tbh stared at him. "Socks, I'm hearing some crazy shit too." Tbh said. "Wait, you too?" Socks exclaimed. Tbh nodded. "It started a few minutes ago." "I woke up from a nap, and then they started." Socks said. "It's giving me the creeps man." Tbh said, shuddering. "We should go see Natalie, maybe she knows something." Socks said. Tbh nodded, and they went to the island. "Natalie!" Socks called, and his voice echoed through the castle. "Why does it feel so empty?" Tbh wondered aloud. "I don't like it." Socks said. "Let's check her room." Tbh said. They went to her room, and knocked on the door. "Natalie, you in there?" Tbh asked. When no answer came, they both heard the voices in their heads increase. Socks quietly groaned when they got stronger. "We need to stop this," he said. Tbh opened the door, and felt his stomach flip. "Socks," he whispered. Socks looked inside, and what he saw horrified him. The room was trashed, and one of the windows was shattered, glass sprinkling the floor like snow. Traces of blood were in the room. "What the hell happened here?" Socks whispered. They entered the room, looking for any clues as to what happened here. "Tbh." Socks said. He turned, and saw Socks holding a piece of metal. "Wait...that's the same metal...that L4FF had." Tbh whispered. Socks ran out of the room, Tbh right on his tail. "Laff!" Socks yelled. They turned the corner, and saw someone on the ground. It was Laff. They ran over to him, and saw that he was fully human. There was a wound in his chest, slightly bleeding. "Laff, wake up man." Socks said. "What happened to L4FF?" Tbh asked. Laff suddenly jerked, waking up. "Laff, relax." Socks said. "Natalie, where is she?" Laff asked. "We don't know, but you're injured, just relax." Tbh said. "I can't hear L4FF." Laff said. Socks and Tbh got quiet. "What happened?" Socks asked softly. Laff closed his eyes, and the memories came back to him.

...

"Ooh La-aaf." His skin got goosebumps when he heard that voice. He wasn't sure what had been happening when he heard glass shatter in her room. He backed up from the door, unsure of what was happening. The door opened and Natalie came out. Her shone yellowish-green, and the veins on her face were midnight black. There were several cuts on her face, probably from the glass. "It's been quite a long time, hasn't it?" she asked. Laff backed up more, fear rushing through his veins. "How the hell are you alive?!" he yelled. "Seth has loyalty, and even gave up so much to bring me back." she said. Chaos was in Natalie. Green discs appeared in his hands, but were suddenly pulled out of his hands. Black vines grabbed the discs, and flung them at him. He quickly rolled and dodged them. "Say good-bye." Chaos said. He shot a black vine at his chest. L4FF took over full control, and took the hit. He panted, the pain a strange feeling. He fell to his knees, energy leaving him. "See you later." and Chaos disappeared.

Laff: "L4FF!" "I'm fine. Totally fine." He got up, leaning against the wall for support. Slowly, energy left him. He needed to get help. His knees buckled again, his vision blurring.

"L4FF, let me take control, you're dying!" "We're both dying Laff." He lay on the floor, out of energy. "Mate, please. Don't die." L4FF could hear that Laff was slowly dying in his head. There was only one way to save him. But he wasn't ready for this. "Listen Laff. We're both dying right now, but I know how to save you." "NO! We're going to get out of this together." "Laff, it's too late for the both of us to get out of this together! I'm sorry." He sighed, and took all his mental energy, all of his energy, into healing the wound. "L4FF, what are you doing?! Don't do this!" "...I'm sorry. Take care of everyone." The wound was no longer going to kill them, and he shot back deep into darkness, where no one could reach him. "I'm sorry mate. Take care."

...

"L4FF's dead." Laff said. Socks and Tbh felt their blood freeze. "He gave his life for mine." Laff said. He pulled his mask off, and tears fell down his face. L4FF, first an enemy, then a helper, finally a best friend. He couldn't hear him, see him, or feel him in his mind anymore. "Laff, we have to stop Chaos. We have to get him." Socks said. Laff wasn't sure what to do. He felt like he was missing something in him. But he had to find Chaos, and defeat him. For L4FF. He wiped the tears away, and stood up, putting his gas mask on. "Let's find that son of a gun." Laff said. Tbh and Socks nodded, and they ran out of the castle to get supplies. But they were shortly stopped when they saw Natalie. "You're still alive?" Chaos asked. Laff felt rage boil in him. "You made him give his life for mine!" Laff yelled. "So? Did you think I thought twice about killing you?" he asked. "At least he sacrificed a lot more than what Seth did for you. He gave his life, and would Seth give his damn life up for you, or is he too much of a damn coward?" Tbh asked. "Seth gave up something more important than life." Chaos said. "Then tell us! I'm pretty sure we would like to hear!" Socks said, a sword made of light appearing in his hand. "He gave up his body and soul to me." The three of them didn't like the sound of that. "And let's just say, he's a lot smarter than you think." Chaos said. Suddenly, Tbh held his hands to his head, the voices suddenly screaming at him. "What are you doing?!" Socks yelled. "He's hearing voices, which will soon irritate him, and then, he'll soon bow to my will, as I am the only one that can stop them." Tbh wanted the voices to stop, their screaming making his head pound. Laff shot a green disc at Chaos, and it hit him in the head. He fell to the ground, knocked out. Tbh gasped with relief, the voices fading. "What the hell did he do to you?" Socks asked. Tbh shrugged his shoulders, his eyes closed. "They were just yelling at me, telling me...that none of this is worth it." Tbh whispered. "Come on. Let's get the hell out of here." Laff said. Socks helped Tbh up, letting him put his weight on him, and they went back down the bridge. They went to Meme's medbay, where Jooice was getting ready to leave. "What happened?" Jooice asked when they came in. "He's back, he's in Natalie. The stupid asshole is alive." Socks said. Nadwe and Jooice felt their hearts stop. "No. Not possible." Nadwe whispered. "Yeah, well ask L4FF about that." Laff said, the anger covering his grief. They were confused at first, but then realized what he meant. They didn't say anything, as to make sure Laff didn't lose it, but L4FF was dead. Sacrificing himself so Laff could live. "Where's Meme?" Tbh asked. "He's..." Nadwe started to say, then suddenly stopped. Laff was confused as to why he stopped, when he noticed that Nadwe seemed frozen with fear. He suddenly fell off the bed, his chest rising and falling fast. Socks went over to him, and found a dagger in his back. "He's here." Socks said, quickly ripping the dagger out. Nadwe gasped in pain, then pointed to the door which led to Meme's room. "Get Nadwe to Meme, we'll stay here." Laff said. Socks nodded, and picked Nadwe up and brought him to Meme's room. "Socks, what's...WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO HIM?!?!" Meme yelled. "Can you help him?" Socks asked. Meme got out of his bed, and took a look at the wound. "So damn close to his heart." Meme whispered, grabbing all the tools he would need. He quickly got to work, carefully closing the wound. After closing it, he wrapped Nadwe's chest in bandages. "This will hopefully make sure any other weapons that come in will be stopped sooner." Meme said. After finishing on Nadwe, he turned to Socks. "What. The. Hell. Happened?" he asked. Socks looked Meme dead in the eye. "Chaos is back." Meme felt rage fill him, and wanted to grab something and throw it. Chaos was back. Socks suddenly grabbed him and moved him to the side. "What the.." he started to say. "You started to burn Meme." Socks interrupted. Meme froze, and the pain in his arm from the new burn started. He took a deep breath, calming himself down. Socks grabbed some burn cream, and helped put some on his arms. "I don't understand." Meme said. "None of us do." Socks said, closing the container. Meme sighed, then felt something touch his leg. "Bubble?" Meme said. The pink axolotl squealed with happiness, and leapt into his lap. Flounder appeared from the door, and Socks picked him up. "Where did they come from?" Socks asked. "They must've run away when Chaos came back." Meme said. Socks then told him everything that had happened, leaving the part where L4FF sacrificed himself out. Meme went out to the medbay, and saw Tbh on the bed, looking tired. "You good?" Meme asked. "I've been better. Unless there's something worse than voices screaming in your head." he said. Something caught his eye, and saw a piece of metal behind Tbh's ear. "I think I found the culprit." Meme said, and pulled the metal off his ear. Tbh felt like a heavy weight had been lifted from him. "Wow, I...that feels a lot better." he said. "I'm going to keep this for a bit." Meme said. "Go ahead." Tbh said. Meme tucked it in his pocket, deciding to look at it later. Laff was staring out one of the windows, an emptiness filling him inside. Flounder bumped his leg, squeaking. Laff picked Flounder up, and held him close to him. Nadwe came out of Meme's room, walking slowly. "You good Nadwe?" Meme asked. Nadwe nodded, sitting back on the bed. "What are we going to do?" Jooice asked. "Tbh and Jooice, get everyone else. We need to get Natalie back." Socks said. The two of them ran out the door. "Why did it have to be him?" Laff asked, mostly to himself. Meme was confused, giving Socks a look. Socks took Meme back to his room. "You told me something had happened to Laff, but what? Also, why is he fully human, not half-cyborg anymore." Meme asked. Socks was quiet for a moment. "L4FF...he's dead." he said quietly. Meme felt his heart drop. "What?" he whispered. "Chaos went to stab them, and L4FF took full control, taking the hit. He somehow managed to heal the wound...but he must've died after that, letting Laff live. Laff...he's shattered." Socks said. Meme rubbed his face, processing everything. "He's not taking this well, is he?" he asked. Socks shook his head. "What worries me is he may actually go do something stupid." "If we have to pin him down, we will." Meme said. They went back out, where Laff and Nadwe were still where they were before. "I don't like this, Chaos just sent a dagger at Nadwe." Meme said. Nadwe took a deep breath. "I'm fine." "Nadwe, he just tried to kill you, he'll have no second thoughts on killing you again." Meme said. "I...I know." Nadwe said. He pulled his legs to his chest, taking deep breaths. "Everything hurts." Nadwe said. Meme could see that he was in pain. "What hurts?" Meme asked softly, sitting next to him. "Mostly my heart. It's been seizing up a lot more. And it hurts. A lot." Nadwe said. Meme grabbed some painkillers, and gave some to him. Nadwe sighed. Everything just hurt. Why couldn't the pain go away? "Just rest Nadwe." Meme said. Nadwe's eyes started to flutter. But he didn't want to fall asleep. He didn't want to see the nightmares again. "Nadwe, just sleep. It's fine." Meme said. Nadwe shook his head. "No, I'll see the nightmares again." "Wait, nightmares?" Socks asked. "Ohhhh shit." Nadwe thought. He never meant to say that aloud. "Uhm...did I say nightmares? Heh, are you sure I said that?" Nadwe said, nervously chuckling. "Nadwe..." Meme said slowly. Nadwe turned into a bat out of simply being scared. "Nadwe, what's wrong?" Meme asked. He felt his fear eating at him, and the nightmares started to bloom in his head. "I...um...so...uh.." Nadwe stuttered. Meme carefully grabbed him, and held him close. "Relax. Everything is fine." Meme said softly. Nadwe took a deep breath, letting himself relax. The nightmares faded away, and he felt calm. "You better?" Meme asked. Nadwe nodded. "Okay, so what's bothering you?" Meme asked. Nadwe shuffled his wings nervously. "Well...ever since you...you know...I've been having nightmares. They scare the crap out of me." Meme closed his eyes. Yeah, he knew Nadwe was scared from him dying, but nightmares? That was a different story. "What do you see?" Meme asked. Nadwe had gone quiet. "I just see everyone dying...Chaos taking control of everyone else that is alive. And...it's somehow all my fault." Tears rolled down his eyes as the nightmares came back. Meme held Nadwe close to him. He felt that pain Nadwe felt. "Nadwe, none of this is your fault. None of it! This is what Chaos wants. Please, don't believe his lies." Meme said. Nadwe nodded, and felt a heavy weight be lifted off his shoulders. He changed back to human, and Meme and Nadwe hugged each other tightly. "Wait...where did Laff and Socks go?" Nadwe said. They looked around, and saw it was just them two. "I didn't hear the door open." Meme said. "The axolotls are here though." Nadwe said as Bubble jumped into his lap. "Maybe Socks took Laff for a walk." Meme sighed. "So is L4FF...is he really dead?" Nadwe asked. Meme hesitated before nodding. "...oh. Okay." Nadwe said. He wasn't sure how to react. "He sacrificed his life for Laff." Meme said. Nadwe felt his stomach flip. L4FF was dead. How many more would die? Suddenly, they heard a bang outside. "What the hell?" Meme said, going to the window. When he looked outside, his eyes widened. "Nadwe...whatever you do, don't go outside."

So L4FF is dead, Chaos is in Natalie, Nadwe's dealing with nightmares, and Meme told Nadwe not to go outside. I love cliffhangers :) See ya!
