Chapter ₂

"I saw you, and I knew there was a story
behind your eyes. I wanted to be the first one to read it."

-Unknown

☁︎

Have you ever looked at something, so attentively, so passionately, with out even trying, and have gotten completely lost?

All the noise around you goes soft, like it's evaporating into the sound of nothing but your slow breaths, and the pitter patter of your racing heartbeat. All the feeling in your muscles drain out, leaving you relaxed like a rage doll, but still tense, due to your fixation. And all you can do is stare straight into whatever has you so transfixed, and wonder aimlessly.

And for me. In this moment. All I could do was stare at the sight of the boy who is so unknown to me, but so remembered.

With his round, pretty hazel eyes staring straight into mine. Still pigmented with an almost orange tint, as his blonde short lashes seem tangled together, almost as if holding his jewels in place. While his scary pale lips are pulled into a smug smile. A smile that holds excitement, mischief and happiness all at the same time.

His low, but familiar voice breaths out. "I found you."

"Oh my word! You're bleeding all over my class room floor! You need to go to the nurse's office! Now!" Our calculus teacher exclaims in fear. Students are staring. Even if I can't feel them. I know they are because how could they not be?

"No thanks." The low voice in front me states, still staring at me. I need to move. Why can't I move?

"N-no thanks?! Your all cut up! Mis Camomile!" The sound of my name is screamed, and I blink, finally looking away from the cat like eyes before me.

"Yes?" I ask, quickly getting up from my desk chair and stepping back from the odd person who's just messed up my whole well being.

"This crazy person seems to take an interest in you! So please! Take him to the nurse before he faints or worse!" Our teacher screams again, causing some students to twinge and others to laugh.

"Uhh, yeah, yeah.." I grumble, grabbing the so called crazy person by the writs and dragging him out of the class room. My eyes trace the white ground as we finally get away from the hectic room. What is he doing here?

As My eyes stay glued to the ground, I can feel his eyes burning into my skull. I can't tell what emotion is radiating off him, but all I can say, is that there is a great amount.

Down the halls, where few fellow students glance our way, some not caring, some whispering. Although, I could careless about all the other eyes on me, it's the ones following behind that have my heart racing.

What the hell is he doing here?! Why is he here? Where did he come from? Why did he burst threw a window?! Three years?!

My thoughts keep fumbling threw my mind, clouding every other sense, as my eyes stay glued to my messy white shoes. One step after the other.

"Did I surprise you?" The voice behind me asks. My throat clogs. It's so familiar, yet so different. It's low, but still holds a childish charm.

With out even giving my body permission, my head turns up from the rugged school floors to the face that's inches away from mine.

He's only a few inches taller, probably Sam's height. He was always that one short, twig of a kid, who's hair seemed bigger then his head. Although, that could never be further from the truth, this boy had more in that brain of his then most.

My eyes scan his, which are drenched in excitement, as his pale lips pull into a smile. His soft sandy blonde hair looks the same, still untamed and messy. Like he's just woken up.

"More like shocked." I breath, finally realizing my hand has been wrapped around his wrist for far too long, I pull my arm away and cross my arms over my chest. Not allowing any expression to take place on my face.

His expression dances, brows twisted amusedly, lips now parted, exposing his perl whites into a large smile, his eyes widening.

"Well, I guess that's close enough to what I had planned." He stated, right before grabbing hold of my wrist and taking the lead down the hallway, towards the nurse's office.

"You know you could've fainted or even died of blood loss? What on earth possessed you to jump threw a window?" The nurse Mis. Stanten stated, as she watched her hands as she carefully bandaged his arm, although, every once and awhile, her dark eyes would glance to his face, curiously.

His voice comes out calm, as usual. With out a care."A human can only come close to dying if they loose thirty to forty percent of total blood volume. This could be around three to four pints of blood." The nurse only smiled, a bit weirded out at his calm responds.

What am I still doing here? I'm causally sitting in one of these uncomfortable plastic chairs, watching this weird conversation. Why am I still here?

As if he read my mind, the second I got up from my chair."You want an explanation."he stated, shooting me a grin.

My brows furrowed, and my lip corners couldn't help but turn down. I hated it when he did this. Read peoples minds. He had this odd ability to read people's thoughts and emotions just by glancing at they're expressions or body movement. He could even tell what people were going to do next, like picking out your opponents next movements during chess, or simply knowing what's going to happen in the next level, in a game.

You see, that's the way Ren looked, and looks at life. It's all just a huge game. A game where you can gain, lose, and have fun.

Then again, that's something we both have in common.

We both see life that way.

"No, I honestly don't care. What I really want is lunch, which I've now missed thanks to you, so see ya." I sigh, rolling my eyes and I turn on my feet to leave out the door.

As I walk out the door, and out into the crowed hall ways, the silent, but known foot steps follow behind me.

"Raina." He states, grabbing hold of my forearm. I feel a cold rush down my spine. He said my name, and it sounds the same like when we were kids.

Some people glance our way, which I could honestly careless about. Especially in this moment.

What's with people and staring? You all just have nothing better to do then watch someone else's life? God, you must be boring.

I sigh, staring back at the boy before me. "What? Can you not see I'm hungry? I'm about to go pat down one of my brothers for food, so if you'll excuse m-"

"Your mad at me. Why?" He asked, as curiosity swam threw his hazel cat eyes.

I laugh. "Who said that? Look I just don't feel like talking I-"

"Your face said so." He explained, poking my forehead with the tip of his finger. His expression is dull. Lips straight, eyes stern. He's being serious.

"I'm not mad, I'm just a little shaken. Now leave me before I start searching you for food." I state, shoot him a smirk, right before skipping off.

☁︎

The truth is, I'm way more then a little shaken by what's just happened in the last hour and a half. I'm actually quite bothered by it. The fact that he's just randomly appeared after three years.

It wasn't out of nowhere when he left. I knew he was leaving, I knew where he was leaving and why.

To say the least, we were very close. Don't even ask me how or why, because I wouldn't be able to fully explain it all. It's far too complex, but also quite simple.

We were both very different.
They way we saw things were like the difference between a cat and a dog. He was quiet, attentive, and brilliant, while I was loud, overlooking, and not so brilliant.

But some how we were so close. We did everything together, we did our own thing, not caring about other people's opinions and lives. We didn't care about other kids, or making friends, we lived in our own world.

And it was a nice world.

It was a world filled with imagination, games, puzzles, adventures and laughter.

But it changed. Why? Because we grew up.

That terrible thing where you begin to find out the bad things of this world, where you begin to care about certain things you didn't before, and where you have to take something upon yourself, which is called responsibility.

"Raina! There you are!" The familiar shout of my blue haired friend exclaims, practically jumping on me. "That was some class huh? Woah that guy was pretty freaky! Like something you'd see in a spy movie. And you say life's boring aha."

"Hey, you got any food? I missed lunch." I ask, trying my best to brush her off.

She rolls her eyes in amusement. "Yeah, yeah. Of course I do, how could I not when my best friend eats as much as her brothers."

"What can I say? They taught me well." I snort, right before my arm found it's way interlocking with hers.

☁︎

"Why does Chemistry have to be so hard? I hate this." Jane grumbles, as she banged her head down on her text book before her. Poor thing. Actually putting her hope in studying.

"Don't know-" I mumble, stuffing the rest of my sixth granola bar down my throat, before swallowing. "-But I don't think smacking your face into the text book is going make it stick to your brain. I've tried."

Why am I eating? I'm not even hungry anymore. I'm eating these because damn they're addictive one, and two, I'm anxious. That's right. I'm so anxious all I can do is stuff things in my face hole as fast as possible before I start chewing on my fingernails, and then possibly fingers.

Anxious why? Because I've got two questions lingering in my thought box.

One: Why on earth is Renegade Andrews back to our small town. And out of all the days he could of, why'd he chose to come now? Why? After everything he went threw, why?

Two: Where is Ren right now?

I shouldn't care. He's not my problem anymore. Not after he left. I've got other problems that are much larger to attend too. So why am I thinking about it?

"What are you thinking about Rain?"

My eyes shoot up from the crumpled granola bar wrapper in my hands, to my smart cocoa eyed friend. Her lips pulled into a smile of curiosity and uncertainty, as she twirled pencil within her fingers tips.

"Just want I'm going to feed the three stooges when I get home. I'm not sure if my parents are coming home late again." I state, stuffing the wrapper in my backpack pocket along with the reset.

"Uh huh, you sure? Your not one to stare off into space." She laughs, allowing her eyes to drop back to her text book.

She doesn't know about Ren. Nor does she ever need too.

I snort. "Yup, why wouldn't I be? I've just eaten some bomb granola bars and now I'm just thinking of my lil bros. Just another day in the life of Raina. Boring-" amusingly, I drag the last word out.

She nods, allowing another calm smile to form on her face.

Truth be told. I'm not bored right now. In fact. I'm quite the opposite.

I'm curious.

☁︎

"Raina! Sam toke my jelly beans!" The infamous whine of my youngest brother penetrates threw my old house walls, most likely coming from the kitchen.

"Sam! Give Jason the jelly beans now!" I shout back from my comfortable position, which is my comfy sofa. I've been sitting here every since we came back from school, just watching tv.

Someone's gotta explain to me why Teen Mutant Ninja Turtles is so interesting. It's my show. I'm not sure if it's the way Michael Angelo eats his cheese pizza, or just the drama, but it's really eye
catching. Jason was the one who got me into it like two years ago, but sadly, the little doll face decided he was 'too old' for cartoons.

Twelve year old these days. Always wanting to grow up, take it form me. Growing up is the biggest pain in the butt anyone could imagine. So just watch your cartoons while you can kids.

"I didn't take his damn jelly beans!"

"Yes you did you a-"

"Hey, hey! Stop it with the profanity!" Carter's voice shouts from up stairs. The nerd is probably studying.

Ugh. I've got enough on my mind, with all this random stuff and curiosity now! I just wanted to sit down on my couch, with five blankets, eating my Oreos, and watching cartoons. Is that too much to ask for?!

"Sam. Soul help me if you don't give him his beans I'm going to turn you into one!" I yell, stuffing another Oreo in my mouth.

"Okey fine! He'll probably have to wait a few hours, but hey, if you really want them that bad I can take a lax-"

"Ew! That's nasty you jerk! I knew you ate them! Those were from Carl!"

"Oh shut up, you'll get more next week. I mean hey, if you really want free candy then go find some grandmas, I'm sure they'll think your face is adorable!"

"Raina!"

Ugh. The joy.

Tiredly, but agitatedly, I slung my legs down on the floor to stand and trun towards the kitchen. Once I appeared in front of them, both of them gulp.

"Sam. Go do your homework." I state.

"But I-" he tries to protest, running his hand threw his ravin hair, and shooting me a innocent smile, exposing his dimples. Trying his best to win me over.

Puff. Like that'll ever happen.

"Now. Before I really do make those jelly beans come out early." I state.

And with that, he nods. and runs upstairs.

I sigh, turning to my next victim. His round sapphire eyes shined, as he tried to pout out his cherry red lips. "Don't even Mis. America. Get that pretty face of yours upstairs, and ready for bed. It's almost ten."

Jason sighs, ruffling his charcoal curls. "Alright fine.. but can I get like fifteen minutes on COD? I did get my food eaten.. you know how horrible that is."

"Fine. Whatever. But if mom asks, it was Sam's fault." I sigh.

He smiles wide, allowing his freckles to dance along his cheeks playfully, right before running up stairs.

They're annoying little brats. But I wouldn't want to live a day with them.

As if on the dot, the sound of the lock of the front door turning is given, and the comforting sound of my mother's voice. I step out into our small living room, to see my mother closing the door behind her, as she talks away on her Bluetooth.

"Yes Martha, I'd think that's a wonderful idea." She laughs, right before her light blue eyes land on me. They sparkle a little. Acknowledging my presence.

She smiles, taking off her worn out black vans, and placing them on out little shoe rack, while dusting off her light blue nurse attire. "How about Wednesday? I'm sure he'll love it."

I sigh. Relived at her finally coming home. She's usually out pretty late due to working at the hospital late hours, and she's got another side job. Well- she likes to call it her hobby, but to be quite honest it's more like another full time job.

She's a kid's party plainer. You know, the person who you call to get your supply's, food, invite your guests and pretty much do all the work for you kid's party. She loves it, I can tell, but it's also a lot of extra work.

But what can I do? If it's something she gets so excited about, who am I to say no?

I shoot her a tired smile, right before hopping up each wooden step, all the way to my bedroom. I sling open my door to find it exactly how I left it. Clothes on the floor, homework messily on my desk, my CDs and records scattered in my dresser. It's a mess.

Eh I'll clean it tomorrow. Sleep is more important.

I don't even care to change out of my clothes, I'm so exhausted from today I just plop face down on my comfy, loving bed that holds my favorite blankets and feathered pillows.

I'm exhausted because for the first time in a long time. I'm confused, curious, and anxious.
All because this one person just showed up.

I'll ask him about it the next time I see him. There's not reason for me to be nervous. So why am I?

"Knock knock."

"What?" I mumble. Thinking it's someone knocking on my door. But I'm deceived.

"Tap tap."

What the- that's coming from my window.

I fall down from my bed to my feet tiredly, allowing my eyes to scan over my floors quickly, finally landing on one of my sandals. I pick it up off the floor and twirl it in my hand, preparing.

Slowly, I pull back my light yellow curtains, to see the dark navy sky, and to my surprise.

Renegade Andrews. Sitting casually on my roof, staring into my window with his gorgeous hazel eyes. The type of eyes that make you want to stare into them attentively, trying to figure them out. See what they see. It gets to a point where your attentiveness turns into passion. I want to know, what they see.

And then you get lost. Wondering aimlessly into the beautiful pools of colors before you.

Some browns, dark brown, light brown, some mossy green, but most potently and unforgettably, the pigment of orange.

It's like when the sun starts to set, and you see the fine outer line on the rim of the bright yellow sun. That's what pigments Ren's eyes.

"What are you doing?" I ask, lifting my brows. I feel like laughing. What on earth is this guy doing?!

"I came to take something I've been wanting to take for a long time." He states, starring at me, with a small smile printed on his pale lips.

"What's th-"

It was only three seconds long. But it felt longer. Most likely because my eyes were wide open, staring at the closed eyes of the person who smashed they're lips into mine.

Suddenly. I didn't feel like laughing anymore. In fact, I felt pretty damn pissed.

What the hell is happening?!
