Chapter ¹
"I heard what you said.
I'm not a silly romantic you think.
I don't want the heavens
Or shooting stars.
I don't want gemstones or gold.
I have those things already.
I want... a steady hand. A kind soul.
I want to fall asleep, and wake, knowing my heart is safe.
I want to love, and be loved."

"Raina!"
Life is truly a random dice.
"Raina wake up!"
One minute your wining, and the other you've completely lost.
"Raina, I'm not going to yell again! Get your lazy butt up already!"
But that's the fun in it. Right?
"That's it! I'm coming in!"
Like the voice states, the sound of my wooden bedroom door swinging open and my annoying fifteen year old little brother's dramatic sighs penetrate threw my now, small lit up bedroom walls.
My eye lids pounce with pain and shock, from the sudden burst of light. Oh how I hate mornings. And waking up in general.
"Raina! I mean it. I've got fifteen minutes till class and if I don't get there on time I'm going to lose my perfect attendance!" His newly deep voice shouts dramatically, as I hear his foots steps come closer to my bed.
I sigh, sitting up from my soft, warm, loving bed. Creaking my eyes open to meet his. The pretty ocean blue is burning with agitation, as his pink lips are pulled into a straight line, making his little chiseled cheek bones take stage.
I shoot him a smirk, then let myself fall back into my covers gracefully.
"Oh my God! I really hate you right now! Get up!" He yells, finally breaking, as he starts to pull me out of my bed by my ankles.
I laugh, as my body hits the cold, hard wood floors, making a loud thump. I turn over on my back, to face him better. He's so annoyed. It's fun. And I love it.
"Alright. Alright. I'm getting up golden boy. Wouldn't want you to miss your AP classes, now would we?" I laugh, jumping to my feet groggily, reaching my hand up to his head, messing up his ravine black hair that I'm sure he's toke so long to perfect.
He sighs irritatedly, running his hand threw his hair to fix it. "Ugh. Go get ready, I'll make sure Sam and Jason eat something. But by the time I'm done, you better be ready to go." He grunts, walking out of my room quickly and down the stairs.
I sigh, looking over my messy floors, messy bed, and over all, messy room. The bed is unmade, while my desk and wardrobe are covered in clothes. Eh, I'll clean it later.
Quickly, I grab some black jeans off the messy floor and a black, large hoodie, making my way to the little bathroom right by my door.
I squirt the minty toothpaste on my tooth brush and scrub away, making sure to invade each tooth nicely. After I rinse my mouth, and splash my face with the cold water, looking up to the mirror. My pale complexion, and grey eyes almost scare me every time I look into this mirror. And to top it off, my short, pitch black hair makes me look like some sort of unknown being.
I don't care though, I've never cared about my appearance. I'm not ugly, there are people who have it far more worse, but I am strange. Not that I mind it. Truthfully, I like it.
Hurriedly, I run my fingers threw my tangled, charcoal bob, trying to make it seem less wild, and run out the door, and down my old, creaky wooden stairs.
As I walk into our old, country style kitchen, my sights are greeted with my three younger brother's quickly stuffing they're faces with what looks like is Peanut-butter and jelly sandwiches, and some milk.
Each one of they're faces are unique, and special to me. In all utter honesty, they're probably my most prized human beings.
Carter. My fifteen year old, intelligent, hard working, and golden boy of an oldest little brother. His ocean eyes are the brightest out of us all, most likely due to him being the brightest in every aspect. He's already quite the looker, with his nice cheek bones, and nice amount of hight. Already 6'feet. I watch as he starts to put away some of the dishes and mess.
I absolute love teasing him about his OCD, and golden boy attitude.
Sam. My fourteen year old, loud, mischievous, and probably most troubling brother. His eyes are large, surrounded by his long black lashes, and are much lighter, going towards a grey like mine, but not as faded, they definitely hold a strong spark of blue, and his hair being a slightly lighter, fluffy black mess. He's already a looker by the little freshmen girls at our high school, again due to his nice height of almost 6' feet, and his dimples. Of course, it's the dimples. Even though he's blessed with height, adorable craters poking into his pale skin, and a people attracting attitude, I can still make fun of him for his emotional attachment to any animal.
He cried hard for a week after his goldfish died. May I remind you, he's fourteen.
I watch as he teases my youngest brother about something.
Speaking of, there's my youngest lil bro Jason. Jason is probably the sweetest twelve year old you'll ever meet, and he'll probably be the cutest sibling out of us all, with his curly, fluffy ravine hair, piercing dark blue eyes, and large amount of freckles that paint his pale complexion, and dot over his small button nose. He's also got these cute, plump red lips. I get to make fun of him by his girlish baby face, and the fact he looks like a little doll.
Maybe you haven't been able to notice yet, but we all look very much alike due to our bluish large eyes, pale skin and charcoal hair color.
I watch as Jason smashes half of his sandwich into Sam's face. Sam then gasps dramatically, grabbing a glass filled with milk, preparing to do trouble.
"Uh no you don't! I'm already spreading unneeded amounts of time to feed you both and do the dishes! Mom had a long night and hasn't come home yet, so stop fighting unless you both want a sandwich shoved up your-" Carter exclaims, grabbing the glass from Sam's grasp, which in return is interrupted.
"Uh uh uh, what did mom say about foul language and threatening us? I suggest you take back what you said." Sam mischievously laughs, smirking cockily.
Carter sighs, harshly grabbing Jason's backpack and throwing a ziplock bag holding a sandwich of who knows what, fiercely inside.
I laugh, grabbing my white converses off our little shoe rack, and stuffing my feet into them. "Come on you three. School's just started a week ago, and your already fighting way too early in the morning."
"Like you have room to say anything Raina! Because of you sleeping in so much, Carter's making us get up even earlier!" Jason exclaims, tugging his backpack over his shoulders crinkly.
Well. What can I do? Waking up early isn't my thing.
"Come on doll face, you can't expect me to wake up as beautiful as you with out some extra sleep." I laugh, grabbing the keys and a half of a peanut butter sandwich off the messy counter, walking off into the hallway towards the front door.
Behind me I hear Jason sigh irritatedly, and Sam state quietly, with a laugh, "Good one."
Quickly my two younger brothers jump into the back seats of our old, run down mini van. I prepare to get into the drivers seat, but am interrupted by Carter stating. "I need more practice if I'm going to pass my driver license test in two months, let me drive today."
I sigh, throwing him the keys and plopping myself into the passenger seat. I honestly love not driving, plus, Carter can drive way better then I probably ever will.
"Oh thank God. Yesterday Raina almost got us killed on the way home from my soccer practice. I'm shocked at how you even passed, and how you still can't drive to save your life even though it's been over two years!" Sam exclaims from the seat behind me.
I throw my feet on the dash board, and plug in my headphones, not even caring to respond to the truth, taking a bite of my sandwich. While Carter just smiles knowingly.
☁︎
Today was the same as everyday. Carter tried to wake me up, and finally did. We drove to drop Jason off at his middle school, and then drove to our highschool Davidson Liberty, which is a boring little building, that we must attend, and is sadly only a few minutes away from home.
After we pulled into the drive way and parked, we went our separate ways.
Carter to his AP classes hurriedly, Sam to his huge group of friends, and I, to my locker where my blue haired best friend and her annoying boyfriend await me.
I drag my eyes along the high school white walls that are filled with my other class mates, and up to my locker where my once brunette friend, but now dyed navy blue, leans triedly. Popping her gum as her brown eyes scan threw her thick square black frames, on the phone glued to her hands, vigorously.
I've known her since freshman year, and for some odd reason we just clicked. It's odd because we're different. She's into bright colors. I'm not. She's a positive spirit. I'm not. She's the smartest girl in school. I'm not.
"Tanner texting you?" I ask, unlocking the locker next door, her brown eyes snap over to me and widen.
"Oh finally! I thought you might of ditched me too." She exclaims, playing annoyedly with her fingernails.
I laugh, pulling a few books out of my messy locker. "I would've, if it weren't for mister perfect freaking out about his classes. Honestly Jane, I can't wait to get out of here."
She sighs, tucking a blue strand behind her ear, exposing her hot pink feather earrings. "Then thank goodness for him. I mean, come on Rain, it's just one more year. Just. One. More. Year. Then you can do whatever you want! The least you can do, is be here for your best friend, on time!"
Can I go into hibernation after? That would be lovely.
I grunt, slamming my locker shut. "Yeah. Then there's the horrible thing about my future coming up."
Ugh. Just the thought about that makes me want to scream.
"Oh come on. Your not at least a little excited about what's to come? I mean anything could happen!" Jane exclaims, as we walk towards our first class.
"Nope. I'm more excited about a cardboard box. These past three years have been nothing but boring torment for me. What's there to look forward too?" I grunt again.
"Well, college? New beginnings? Becoming an adult?" Jane laughs, as if it were obvious.
But the sad fact, is that it is obvious. That's what most Seniors look forward too.
That's the problem. I'm not good at school, nor do I like it. So why would I go to college? Or how would I even get in?
I sigh, not responding, as we walk into our first class of the day. Calculus. Ugh. Take me now. Silently, we take our seats. I sit in front of Jane, as we always have over the years.
It's pretty funny, our little tactic. Jane sits behind me so that she can write her answers down on a paper, and slide them on my desk, as she does the work. It's a nice friendship we have. She does all the work, her being a genius and all, and I. I copy off her work, like the useless and stupid person I am.
"Hey babe, you going for the homeless look today?"
My eyes snap over to the desk in front of me. There my sights are greeted with the schools most handsome, and so called dashing Carson. With his thin pink lips pulled into an amused smirk, and his right hand running threw his perfect hair, almost trying to get the attention of the other students. A playful gleam dances in his green eyes, as they watch me attentively.
His dark green eyes are rumored to be called 'The forests deepest green' but in all utter honesty I call them the 'Allege that I can't get off my shoe'.
His dark forest green eyes are not the only thing about this boy that make all the girls wild. Cason's pitch short black hair and well built structure, due to being on the foot ball team, have everyone fawning over him. Oh, lets not for get his sharp cheek bones and nice height either, making him the most loved boy by all the females and males of this school.
He can get every girl, with his charming looks and bad boy attitude. Although, that doesn't apply to one girl. The one girl he always attempts to talk too, and the one girl he'll always tease, and try to drag into his little game. Me.
I hate him, and the way he keeps trying grab my attention. I don't give a sh*t if he supposedly likes me. He absolutely pisses me off, and I'd rather kiss the clown from 'IT' then have to be some what nice to him.
I sigh, leaning back into my desk chair, propping my feet on top of my desk, right in front of his so called beautiful face. "Not everyone cares about what they wear as much as you do princess."
A few of his fellow maidens laughs and clap hands, as he rolls his eyes, that hold a bit of irritation in them ever so slightly.
"Whatever. If you wanna keep warding off all the guys at this school, by looking like one. Be my guest." He snaps, right before another smirk forms on his lips, and his eyes trail over me. "Although, it's a shame. You may dress like a dude, but your body says other wise." He stares, shooting me a wink.
I roll my eyes. "Hmm, that is a shame. A shame that you'll never see the day when I'll give a sh*t."
He chuckles, preparing to say more, but is quickly cut off by our teacher clearing her throat.
"Mis Camomile, Mr Grey. Care to share what it is you both are so intrigued by? Sharing is caring." Our middle aged teacher states, as she brings down her small framed spectacles to the bridge of her pale, button nose.
Carson laughs, "Eh, just asking Mis Camomile here, if she's got any clue about the home work."
I snort. Oh unreliable, annoying Carson. If your going to lie. At least make it considerably believable.
"Yeah, that's not what happened." I laugh, picking at my chipped nails.
A few people laugh, and some eyes widen. Miss Lawns eyes dart towards me, as she walks a little over to me. The sound of her small heels clicking on the tile floors adds to the spark of excitement in me. I love this already.
"Oh really. I'd like to hear what happened Mis Camomile." She laughs, crossing her skinny, boney arms over each other, as she stares me down. Her expression burning with a bit of furry, and a hint of annoyance.
I frown."Carson here, has been pestering me all morning. It's really bothersome. So bothersome that I can't even concentrate on my homework coming up, he's honestly the reason I'm failing this class. Once I sit down, it's like, POOF! There he is, babbling his mouth flaps over, and over and over and over an-"
"Alright, alright Mis Camomile. I get your point." She sighs, darting her eyes to Carson. "You and I will have a talk after class Mister, you can't be trying to flirt in my class." She then huffs, turning on her feet back to her desk.
A few people laugh, and I can feel Carson's burning gaze into my skull. Jane laughs amusedly, lightly patting my shoulder.
Mission accomplished.
"Alright then. Anymore interruptions?" Miss Lawn asks, looking over her classes faces.
A few laugh, and take it lightly, not really caring or paying attention.
"Goo-" but before she can finish the word.
Crash. Specks of sharp glass every where. Flying threw our view. Our eyes shoot over to the only little window in the class room, as the specks of glass gaze all over the room, and gasps are all to be heard. It's in pieces, and on the floor is blood, and a person. A boy. Most likely our age.
He stands up, calmly, dusting his torn jeans, that are now covered in blood stains, and straightening his white t-shirt that is punctured with glass shards, seeping inot his skin.
He holds an expression as if nothing has happened. As he runs his hand threw his sandy blonde hair, allowing his eyes to track over our, quiet and stunned room.
Some hold they're breaths, some screamed, some are baffled.
When my eyes met his. I knew who he was.
I knew his odd eyes form anywhere. Their different form anything I've ever seen. They're such an odd color, a hazel, but the have an almost orange hint to them. They make him look like a monsters, or cat, like something else then a human when you stare right into them.
His eyes widen once they meet mine, and he slowly walks over to my desk, watching me, like lion on his prey. He slowly walks not letting his eyes move form mine, completely ignoring the sounds of horrid gasps, amused laughter and the shrill of Miss Lawns voice yelling out to him.
I hold my breath.
As he finally makes his way over to my desk. I can feel the people around me stare, scared.
He places his bloody, cut up hands down on my desk, and allows his extraterrestrial eyes to scan over me. His face is pained with little cuts, as his shaggy sand blonde hair drapes over his forehead, exposing his pale, peachy skin. While his pale, chapped, white lips are slightly parted. His expression is almost impossible to read, I can't tell what he's thinking.
Then again. No one could ever.
I hold my breath. As he bring his face closer to mine, almost a inch away. Scanning my eyes furiously.
"I found you." Is all he states, before allowing an excited smile to dance along his pale lips.
Life truly is a random dice.
