☆\\Chapter Twenty-One

AVANTAE ROMIREZ

School dragged on painfully slow.

I wasn't in a good mood mainly because my sister was overly depressed. I hated seeing her like this because she was just perfect to me. Growing up, I knew I had to protect her at all costs since I was the older one. I didn't let anyone bully her for being different which sucks to be honest. I rather be weird or be called a freak than be normal.

Being normal is boring.

The bell rang and I quickly stood up and left the classroom. On my way out I bumped into someone almost falling flat on my face. Luckily I knew how to balance saving myself from embarrassment.

"Fuck, can't you watch where you're going?", a female voice said as my eyes scanned her over. It was one of the girls from the new group. It was weird that they just showed up here when we were already half-way through the course. I wasn't the one to judge a book by its cover but I had a bad feeling about them.

"I'm sorry, I didn't see you on my way out", I apologized but she only rolled her eyes and walked past me. Talk about being mean. I don't see why it's so hard for people to accept an apology. It's better than spending all your life holding a grudge against someone.

I just don't understand people sometimes.

"Avan!"

I looked behind me and saw Daija who was the other girl from the new group. We had small convo before exchanging information on who we were and what we were studying at the academy. She seemed really sweet unlike the other one who was nothing but rude.

"Hey, thought you left already", I said as I made my way up to her. Her long black hair complimented her brown eyes and her perfectly shaved eyebrows. She was Asian American and I would be lying if I said that she wasn't gorgeous.

"Not as yet, I wanted to see you...", she trailed off but didn't turn her gaze from me. She sucked her bottom lip in her mouth and out of instinct I reached up and brushed my thumb over her lips. Where was all this coming from?. This was so unlike me but I couldn't help it.

"Can I get your number?", I asked as I continued to gaze at her lips. I wanted to pull away but it felt like something took over my body and was controlling me.

"Yes, that's what I wanted to ask you", she said excitedly before pulling away from me.

I was too shocked to speak as she took out my phone and typed her number in. I scratched my head as I tried to push away the feeling in my body. It's like there was this confidence radiating off me and as much as I was confident already this was pushing me more than I could imagine.

The scary part was that I felt a bit devious and I didn't know why.

"I'll text you when I get home", she said before giving me a wink and walking away. I stood there for a good five minutes trying to figure out what the hell was happening to me. There was no part of me that wanted to take her number and yet I asked for it.

After coming back to my senses, I left the building and made my way to the school bus. It will be good thirty minutes drive so I took out my earphone and plugged it in. The best thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain.

I closed my eyes blocking out all thoughts as I relaxed in my seat.

A hand on my shoulder shook me awake. I quickly snapped my eyes open, realizing that the bus has stopped. I took up my bag and made my way off trying to ignore how the girls were staring at me. Once off the bus, I inhaled the fresh air and made my across the lawn and into my house.

"Lina!", I called after shutting the door but I didn't receive an answer. I made my way upstairs after throwing my bag in one of the couches.

"Lina are you in there?", I asked as I knocked on her door.

I'm sure she didn't leave the house. I was about to knock again when the door burst open. My jaw dropped halfway when my eyes landed on Clyde who was completely naked and covered in scratch marks.

I gritted my teeth as I pushed him which didn't do much as he went stumbling back but not enough to make him fall. What the fuck did he do to Lina?. I heard a whimper and I looked towards the bed where my sister was cuddled up with tears rolling down her cheeks.

I rushed to her side and pulled her into my arms. Her body temperature was very high and her eyes were bloodshot. I glared at Clyde wishing I had a weapon to fucking kill him.

"Avan, it's not what you think ok?. I didn't hurt her", he said but I could care less about his words. I had the proof right infront of me showing that he did something to Lina when she was completely defenseless.

"Then why the fuck are you naked?. I knew you were bad news from the first day I met you. My grandmother will hear about this", I seethed as I looked down at Lina's form.

"It's a long story but I have no time to explain. Your sister is dying and I think I may know why".

My eyes snapped back to his at the word 'dying'. How can she be dying just like that?. What the hell happened when I wasn't here?. I should've known better than to leave her alone by herself. I'm so damn stupid.

"Her energy is being drained by a powerful source. I've only seen this once back then in my old pack. The Alpha's daughter was perfectly fine then all of a sudden she became sick and was bed bound. It took a while to figure out what was happening but when we finally did, it was nothing as we expected. Her energy was being drained from a witch who had some of the Alpha's daughter belongings. We tracked her down and had no choice than to execute her. She confessed nothing as to why she did it but she said one thing, it was only possible for her to draw energy from the Alpha's daughter because she had traces of witchery in her blood".

I was dumbfounded.

My brain was trying to interpret what Clyde just said but it was not working. All this supernatural shit was starting to hurt my head. First my sister being mated to a wolf and then attacked by a vampire and now her energy was being drained for whatever reason!. Why the hell does it have to be her?.

"It's going to be alot to take in but it's the truth. If we don't find the source from which her energy is being drained, she will die", he added and I cupped my sister's cheek.

"A-Avan, I-I can't feel m-my legs", her voice came out in whimpers and my heart clenched at the sight.

"Call Mykel, he'll know what to do", I said but Clyde only furrowed his eyebrows at me. I pointed to Lina's phone and he handed it to me. I dialed his number and waited but there was no answer. I groaned when it went straight to voicemail.

"Where does this Mykel live?", Clyde asked as he stepped closer to me. Nope, my eyes did not just wander to his lower half which was still unclothed.

"He's the Alpha of BitterFang Pack and Lina is his mate. The house is located deep in the woods and across the border", I answered before he rushed from the room. He appeared a second later and looked at me.

"Try to keep her body temperature down until I get back. Don't let her from your sight and don't invite anyone in do you understand me?", he stated and I nod quickly. He closed the door and I focused my attention on Lina who's skin was beginning to look pale.

I shifted and placed her on the bed. I had to keep her body temperature down and the only way to do that was with ice. I had to give her an ice bath. I dashed downstairs and into the kitchen. I took out the two ice trays and made my way back upstairs.

"Ah!"

She twisted on her side and buried herself more in the sheets. My heart was in pain at how she looked. I went to the bathroom and filled the bath halfway with water. I added the ice and some soap just for fragrance.

I lifted her off the bed into my arms feeling my skin burn to how hot her body was. I tried to put her in the bath but she wouldn't let go.

"C-cold", she whimpered still clutching onto my shoulders.

"I know but we have to keep your temperature down. I will not let you die", I said kissing her on the forehead before her hands slipped from around my neck.

I sighed as I ran a hand through my hair. I wasn't going to let her die.

That was NOT an option.
