Chapter 20
I sat on my bed trying to let my anger ease away. It was true though, my own mother hardly knew me I bet she doesn't even know my favourite colour. I sniffed and wiped away unwelcome tears that began to roll down my cheeks until there was a gentle knock on my door.
"Go away." I mumbled burying my face in my pillow.
"Gretch it's me," Bellamy whispered as he slipped into my room.
"This was a bad idea." I sighed sitting back up.
"It's always a bad idea when they stay," he chuckled as he sat on my bed next to me.
"Do you think I was too harsh?" I peaked up at my brother from behind my wet lashes.
"The truth hurts sometimes." He shrugged. "You needed to say it and you have, let them deal with it, there the ones to move next."
"I suppose." I nodded when suddenly there was a knock on my door and mums head peaked round. I'm surprised she remembers which is my room.
"Honey, can I speak to your sister alone please?" She asked Bellamy glancing between her two children.
"Sure," he nodded before jumping up and leaving us alone. Mother and daughter. Two strangers.
"Listen, Gretchen. I'm sorry." She began as she stepped further into the room. "I know your father and I spend most of our time away from you and Bellamy."
I nodded awkwardly, I was totally going to cry.
"Our careers mean a lot and so do you. We don't want to loose either so this is the best we can do for now."
"I know." I swallowed the lump in my throat that had arisen.
"I know we've just got here, but a good opportunity has popped up in Miami. We're catching a flight in two hours." She whispered.
"Leaving already? I think its a new record mum. Just go." I rolled my eyes.
"Gretchen...."
"Just.go." I clenched my teeth. It felt like my heart had been pulled out my chest and shoved back in but all rearranged. My own mother was leaving again, she hasn't even been here for one night and she's leaving her only children behind. Again.

I had waved goodbye to mum and dad pretending I was happy for them and now I was back on the sofa moping about. Sulking in the misery of my parents leaving for Miami.
"They left us more money." Bellamy shrugged.
"Money can't buy back people." I muttered.
"I know Gretch, but it means you can go on a full blown shopping spree." He smiled trying to lighten the mood.
"I guess but it doesn't mean everything's ok."
"I know it doesn't, little sis."

I didn't particularly want to go to school today but I was forced. Apparently the excuse for my parents leaving me had been overused.
"How was your weekend?" Grace smiled opening her locker.
"Shit." I replied slamming my own locker shut, I saw her flinch and I knew I was being a total bitch. "Sorry, just stuff with my parents."
"It's fine, I get it." She nodded understanding my situation, she was used to it by now.
"Hey babe," Andrew walked over and slipped an arm round Grace's waist before kissing her.
"Hi," she giggled flushing a little.
"Oh hey Gretch." He nodded to me.
"Hey Andrew." I waved half heartedly. "Listen guys, I have a free period this morning so I think I'm just gonna go to the library and catch up." I said as I turned round and headed for the library.
"Bloody hell." Grace muttered.
"What?" Andrew looked down at her with concern in his eyes.
"She never goes to the library!"
I walked lazily up to the second floor and to the secluded area of the school. Pushing past the wooden double doors and passing the bi-polar librarian sitting at her desk, I wandered to an empty table at the back of the room where no one could see.
I literally felt horrible today. I couldn't get to sleep very well and ended getting up at five in the morning. With my hair thrown into a messy bun, I had chucked on a pair of leggings, a white tank top with a denim jacket that clung tightly to my shoulders. I literally could not be bothered.
"Well, well, well." I head someone say above me. "Look what we have here." I looked up and groaned when I saw Max's smug face glaring down at me.
"What the fuck are you doing in a library?" I asked resting my chin on my hands. "Do you even know what a library is?"
"I could ask you the same question." He glowered.
"Sleeping. Duh." I stuck my finger up at him. He smirked and sat down opposite me. "Jesus Christ..."
"Don't worry, you didn't do any serious damage to my face, as you can see." He glared daggers at me. That's right! I punched him in the face at the party on the weekend.
"No your genes have done that already, and puberty hasn't gone easy on you." I rolled my eyes. "You deserved it."
"And you deserved to be hit that night." He said sternly. My grip tightened on the strap of my bag as I dropped it to the floor.
"Unless you want to be punched again I suggest you scram." I mumbled.
"You just wait." He chuckled standing up and leaving me. What did be mean by that? I decided to think nothing of it and rested my head in my arms.

I don't know how long I'd been a sleep, but someone was tapping me, and it was irritating.
"What!" I shouted sitting up.
"Shhhh!" The librarian hissed, she was
books on a nearby shelf. I rolled my eyes till they landed on Nathan who was taking a seat next to me.
"You know this is a library right?" He smirked as he leaned back in his chair.
"I am well aware." I smiled.
"Just double checking." He chuckled.
"What are you doing in here? Last I checked you weren't the library type."
"Well two reasons." He began. "One because your here and two I'm hiding."
"Hiding? Hiding from what?" I asked turning my body to face him.
"Well, I punched Max and the new kid Toby." He shrugged.
"Nathan!" I gasped.
"Shhhh!" The librarian hissed again before she stalked off.
"Nathan!" I repeated, whisper shouting this time.
"Gretch, Max tried to hit you and I wasn't there he asked for it and the other creep had his eyes all over my girlfriend." Nathan folded his arms across his muscled chest.
"Your were jealous."
"I prefer the term territorial." He corrected.
"Relax. Toby is a total douche and I have eyes for you and no one but you." I smiled leaning forward in my seat.
"Good, because otherwise we would have a problem." He smiled back, but then his face dropped a little. "Bellamy told me what happened yesterday." I sighed and rubbed my temple.
"Can we not talk about that? I'll get over it, I don't need to talk about it." I told him.
"Sure thing," Nathan leaned forward and placed a kiss on my lips but pulled away leaving me wanting more. "Come on we have history." He held out his hand. I grabbed my bag and took his hand.
"Great." I rolled my eyes. We walked out of the library and back to the ground floor. We sauntered down the corridor and I caught sight of Toby and Max walking our way. My grip tightened on Nathan's hand as I prayed to God they didn't see us.
"You!" Toby bellowed as he stormed towards us. Nathan stoped and stepped semi in front of me. I rolled my eyes I didn't need to be protected like some Disney Princess so I stepped forward instead.
"Come back for more?" Nathan taunted.
"Just leave it..." I looked up to Nathan.
"Toby just leave it mate!" Max held back Toby who was trying to get closer to lash out on Nathan. "She'll get what she deserves."
"What the fuck is that supposed to mean?" I spat at him, by now we'd gathered an audience.
"You'll see." Max smirked.
"It's more him that I want to kill!" Toby shouted as he backed away with Max.
"It will work itself out."Max said before they disappeared down the hallway.
"Why do I find that strangely unsettling?" I muttered.
"There just empty threats Gretch, nothing to worry about." He tucked a loose stand of hair behind my ear.
"Mr. Blake headmasters office now." Mr.Heathman glowered pointing down the hallway.
"Busted." He muttered. "Look I've got a surprise for you okay? I'll call you after school." He kissed me on the forehead quick before he walked away.
"You want to tell me what happened there?" Taylor appeared at my side.
"Christ girl! You scared me!"
"Sorry, so what did them dickheads want." She asked.
"I'll explain in History." I nodded as we began to walk to class. But Max's words kept playing on my mind 'She'll get what she deserves.' It sounded....sinister.
