Chapter 21

I was trying to think of what my surprise was. I hated surprises. It had played on my mind all day, plus I hadn't seen Nathan all day since he was taken to the headmasters office. So that's why I was now sitting at home staring at the screen of my iphone, Nathan said he would call me and I'm still waiting. I wasn't exactly the most patient person.

"You know staring at your phone isn't going to do anything." Bellamy looked away from the tv to look at me. Since Nathan had just left me I had to call Bellamy to pick me up instead.

"I'm waiting for a call..." I mumbled staring at the lock screen of me and my brother.

"I know." He said and went back to watching tv. Wait what?

"What do you mean 'I know'" I asked throwing my phone down on the sofa to switch the tv off. "Bellamy Jasper Rousso! You tell me what my goddamn boyfriend is planning." I said sternly standing in front if him with my hands on my hips.

"Don't use my full name." He narrowed his eyes at me. I knew he hated his full name, that's why I always used it to my advantage when I could.

"If you don't tell me I swear-" I was cut off by my phone ringing. I frantically dashed to pick it up and pressed the answer button, knowing exactly who it was.

"You have some explaining to do Nathan Blake." I huffed down the phone.

"Well hello to you too Gretch," he chuckled. A small smile spread across my face at the sound of his voice, at least he didn't completely forget to call me.

"Hi," I smiled down the phone.

"So do you want the good news or the bad news?" He asked.

"Bad then good," I replied.

"The bad news is that I've been suspended for a week."

"A week!" I exclaimed as I climbed the stairs to my bedroom. "That's a little extreme isn't it?"

"Apparently the headmasters sick and tired of my rude and impulsive behaviour."

"Great..." I muttered, a whole week without Nathan would be torture. I'll have Grace and Andrew being all mushy and the other side Taylor will be chewing my ear off about Kendall no doubt, also not forgetting my pure hatred for Max and Toby, not that I couldn't handle them myself, I was capable.

"The good news is that I'm taking you to dinner tonight." He spoke softly.

"Really!" I squealed.

"Really." He confirmed. "So be ready in an hour, I'll be out front."

"Sure," I nodded and hung up. I smiled and threw my phone onto the bed and dashed into the shower. I hope we weren't going anywhere too expensive because I know that whatever I do, Nathan wasn't going to allow me to pay.

I wrapped a towel round me and stepped into my cupboard. I skimmed through my collection of dresses, I decided to pull out a little black dress so I grabbed a matching bra and underwear and slung them on. The dress came mid thigh and it had thick straps, I grabbed some small high heels that looked like boots and put them on.

I pulled my hair out from my bun and tidied up my now wavey hair. I decided just to apply a little mascara and lip balm and left it at that. I grabbed a small black bag and filled it with the essentials before heading downstairs.

"You look nice," Bellamy smiled.

"Thanks," I smiled back taking a sip of his orange squash.

"So you calmed down from your hissy fit?" Bellamy smirked.

"Shut up..." I glared at him playfully before sitting down on the sofa waiting for Nathan.

***

"Bye!" I waved to Bellamy before closing the door behind me. I walked towards Nathan's car and smiled as soon as he came into view.

"You look beautiful." He stared at me in awe.

"Thank you," I smiled as I drank in his appearance. He was wearing dark rinsed jeans, a navy blue shirt with a black blazer.

"Come on." He opened the door for me and I climbed in. The drive was only forty minutes long until we parked in the car park of 'Little Belle's Restaurant'.

"I've never been here before." I smiled looking up at the bright Italian sign.

"But you've wanted to go here for a while." Nathan said as he stopped the car.

"How'd you know?"

"I done some digging." He smirked.

"Bellamy." I shook my head. Nathan chuckled as he got out of the car to open my door and help me out. We walked into the restaurant and Nathan spoke to the receptionist as I glanced around the quaint Italian theme. All the furniture was a dark oak colour and black and white images of Italy's history covered the walls. The dim lights showed about a dozen tables that were already occupied.

"This way Mr.Blake." The female attendant smiled seductively. Hell no. Nathan was keen to follow her and I frowned. I quickly followed after them and slipped my hand in Nathan's, he smiled down at me.

"Here's your table." She smiled until her gaze dropped to mine and Nathan's hands resulting in her to narrow he eyes at me. "Your waiter will be with you shortly." She said glaring at me. I gave her a sarcastic smile before she stalked away.

"You jealous?" Nathan smirked as he slid into the booth on the opposite side to me.

"No." I snapped.

"Please Gretch, you totally were." Nathan smirked.

"Well at least I didn't punch her." I smirked back turning the tables back onto him.

"Fair play." He raised his eyebrows in shock. I smiled at him and picked up a menu, until a shadow over casted me.

"Hi I'm Toby and I'll be your server today." I snapped my eyes up to the waiter.

"You've got to be shitting me." I rolled my eyes then quickly looked to Nathan.

"Great, out of all the goddamn people in this restaurant I get you two." Toby said through gritted teeth.

"Its not like I want you to serve my food, although it will be amusing seeing you work for me." I smirked which received a death glare from Toby.

"Gretch, we can go somewhere else if you want." Nathan looked in my eyes.

"No its fine," I smiled.

"What do you want to drink?" Toby rolled his eyes. He was hating this, serves him right really.

"Lemonade please."

"A lemonade and a coke then." Nathan said.

"Shoo shoo Toby, go get me my drink." I stifled a laugh. I watched as he walked away with his cute little apron and note pad.

"Gretch, be careful what you say." Nathan warned.

"What do you mean?" I shot him a confused look.

"He has worse anger issues than me, I'm just saying don't wind him up too much," he took hold of my hand and squeezed it.

"Sure," I nodded as I returned my attention back to the menu. Nearly everything on here came with a side order of garlic bread. "What are you having?"

"Lasagne, although I bet you it won't beat mine." He said with a cocky tone.

"Really? Well I might have to have the lasagne too so then next week you cook me yours and I will be the judge." I smiled.

"Sounds like a plan," he smirked. Right on cue Toby came back over with our drinks and took our food orders. Nathan and I talked about a lot of things the future, universities, flats and cars.

"I can't see you behind the wheel of a range rover like mine," Nathan scoffed.

"Well let me drive your car!" I pleaded. I've had my drivers license just after I turned seventeen but never drove much since. Bellamy won't let me drive his car, neither will Taylor and now Nathan.

"No way am I letting you get behind the wheel of my car."

"Why not!" I moaned.

"Because if anything were to happen to my car I'm fucked and its just too big for you to handle." Nathan seemed non-negotiable on his answer.

"That's just not fair." I complained as our food arrived. Toby set our plates down and placed the basket of garlic bread on the end of the table.

"Looking hot Gretch." Toby looked me up and down before turning around and hurrying back to the kitchens. I rolled my eyes and landed them on Nathan.

"Nathan?" I asked. He was staring into space his eyes dark and his grip had tightened on my hand.

"I'm going to kill him." He muttered.

"No Nathan, he's winding you up okay? It's revenge from this morning he didn't get to punch you so this is his way of retaliating." I assured him giving his hand a squeeze.

"He looks at you like a piece of meat." He spat as he turned to face me. "And your not. Your the most respectable, beautiful, caring girl I've ever met Gretchen." I blushed at his words.

"Thank you," I smiled.

"We should eat." Nathan shook his head as if to drop the subject and move on. We tucked into our dinner. It was delicious the tomato sauce was lush and the herbs and spices mixed together with it made my tongue tingle.

"Mines still better." Nathan winked.

"Well you have to prove it to me. " I smirked. We finished our dinner and decided to skip desert.

"Anything else?" Toby asked once he'd returned after clearing our plates. Neither of us had touched the garlic bread but apart from that our plates were clean.

"Just the bill." Nathan said bluntly. Toby wandered off and came back with the bill.

"Let me pay half." I said as I rummaged through my bag.

"Gretch, I got this." Nathan nodded.

"Nooo, you can't do this if I want to pay half you should let me."

"No."

"Why not."

"Just no." He placed his card in the machine and entered his pin.

"Its done." Toby said. "So Gretch, are you sure you don't want any desert? My lips are right here." He raised an eyebrow. Nathan stood up suddenly and took a menacing step towards Toby.

"Back off." He warned.

"Or what?" Toby challenged him. I shot up off my seat and stood between them, my back to Toby so I could face Nathan.

"Nathan its fine okay? Look at me." I took his face in my hands and willed him to look at me, his eyes met mine. "Just leave it okay? We're fine." I nodded and he nodded in response. I grabbed my bag and took Nathan's arm as we walked out the restaurant I bumped shoulders with Toby to warn him to stay away.

The car journey back home was silent. When I tried to make conversation Nathan kept replying bluntly so I gave up in the end. We soon pulled up outside my house and we climbed out the car.

"Gretch I'm sorry I've ruined the evening." He ran a hand through his hair in frustration.

"No you haven't, what made you think that?" I asked looking up at him.

"The way I acted with Toby and I just kept brushing you off in the car... I'm sorry." He sighed as if he'd failed me.

"Hey you have no reason to be sorry." I kissed him quickly on the lips and pulled away. He stared down at me with admiration in his eyes as he took my waist and kissed me again, I wrapped my arms round his neck and kissed him back. This is where I belong. In his arms. We finally pulled back for air.

"Gretchen." He begun "I don't want to ruin anything between us but I need to tell you something."

"Go ahead." I encouraged.

"I think I'm in love with you." He whispered in my ear. My heart swelled at his words. The boy I admired in so many ways loved me. The bad boy loved me.

"Well that's good because...I think I'm in love with you too."
