Chapter Two

Today was the busiest day I had ever seen at the office. Everyone was rushing to one place or the other. The publishing company had given a deadline and we were struggling to meet it.

"Kayla, Kayla! I'm glad I caught you! Mark quit", Rita informed me.

"What?!" I asked in surprise.

"That's what I said when I heard the news. You know our rival magazine, Fashion Icons, that's were he is working now", Rita said.

"I thought he was the most loyal employee."

"So we need a new photographer. I put up an advertisement in the newspaper. You have to interview them and choose a photographer."

"Isn't that Colton's job?"

"I know who does what here. He's busy with paperwork and we need to meet that deadline. You know how I hate writing but I'm helping write an article."

"You? Writing an article?"

"Desperate times call for desperate measures."

"Okay, I'll do it."

"Thanks. You're the best, Kayla!"

Finally. I had finished interviewing all the photographers and I was ready to head home. I was about to leave when I saw a man rush in.

"We're closed and you're late", I said, annoyed with this person who had interfered with me going home.

"I'm so sorry. I was really busy. I came here as fast as I could", he said.

"Well, it wasn't good."

"Please give me another chance."

"Fine."

He gave me his portfolio and I looked through it. The pictures were really beautiful. Even pictures of the simplest things were breathtaking.

After I finished the interview, I went home. I couldn't keep that photographer, Nigel, out of my mind. I hadn't even pondered over the photographers' work but I could tell Nigel's work was really good. I don't know why, but it just felt right to pick Nigel. Maybe it was an instinct, a hunch or whatever. All I knew was that Nigel was perfect for the job.
