Two weeks later:

"I know that this is a very hard decision to make. Losing a loved one is never easy. As long as your daughter is here, we will make sure to keep her comfortable. She is in the best hands possible." The doctor says to the crying parents of a young woman who was slowly drifting away.

Their hearts didn't feel like they were beating. Not when their daughters was fighting for that extra beat. Dorthy and Albert held each others hands. With their free hands, they held their children's.

It had been a month and a half. They were beginning to forget Jessica's voice and her smile. They missed her energy and contagious laughs.

"But there is still that chance?" Sam mumbles

The doctors nod "Yes and we are hopeful. As your daughters doctor, it is just my job to discus her options." He says

"Well we aren't pulling any plugs, I'll tell you that!" Jane yells

Dorthy cries even harder when Jane reacts.

George hugs his sister and looks at the doctors. Desperate eyes looked back at him. He was looking at a family who longed for their loved one to wake up.

Ann walked over to her sister and put her hand on her arm wrapped in bandages to protect her many burns from the fire.

"We can't lose faith in Jessica. She can wake up any day now." Ann says with assurance

"Mom? Dad?" George asks

Albert sighs and speaks for himself and his wife. "We want to give it some more time. Before we make any decisions we need to get here kids here. But no, we are not pulling any plugs. We are staying strong for our Jessie. To do so we just need to be here with her and talk to her. We need to tell her stories and remind her that we are all here waiting for her."

It had been a long week. Jessica's stats were low, she had a lot of bad tests coming back and her lungs were working too hard. The doctors were doing everything they could to keep her stable. Things had taken a turn for the worse, making the family and doctors very nervous. All the family could do is be there and comfort her. Albert, Dorthy, Jessica's siblings, Sarah, and Sam stayed in the room with her.

They talked and talked. Amongst themselves and with Jessica. When people talked to Jessica everyone else listened.

"Hey Jessie girl... it's me, your mama. I'm right here next to you holding your hand. I know it's cold. But I love holding your hand. We are all here honey. We believe in you. I know you're in there fighting. When you wake up we will all be here waiting. Scarlett, Wyatt, and Jack are waiting too." Dorthy starts to cry as she lays next to Jessica in her bed.

"They love you and they need you. They are just so lucky to have a mommy like you, baby girl. I'd like to take credit for what a great mom you are. You need to fight for them, okay? Wake up for them because when you do they will be right here." Dorthy cries even harder. Albert rests his hand on his wife's shoulder and cries with her

Sam closes his eyes and tries to go into his inner thoughts and think happy thoughts.

As Jessica's favorite song plays, she sways back and forth with with the love of her life holding her in his arms. She felt at peace with Sam. Everything felt so right. It was their senior prom. The most perfect night that Jessica could ever dream of.

"I love this song." She whispers

"I know you do." He says as he holds her

Jessica looks up at Sam and gives him a smirk, knowing that he requested this song just for her.

"I want you to sing this song to me on our wedding day." She giggles

"Haha, I don't know baby." He whispers

"It's just so perfect." She says

"The perfect song for the perfect girl, right?" He says giving her a twirl

She blushes and puts her head back on Sam's chest

"Which version should I sing to you?" He says

"All of them." She smiles

Sam looks into the beautiful girls eyes and completely falls in love.

A single tear fell from Sam's face as he reached for Jessica's hand.

The next day-

Sam had the room to himself for a bit while everyone went home for some rest. Sam sat quietly in Jessica's room holding her hand. He was motionless. He didn't get up for food or water. He just stood by her side. He was right back where he started from when she got sick. He was a little messed up along the way but nothing could stop him from being there.

"Jessica. Jessie. Jess.... remember when I used to say it? just like that?" He chuckles

Then, a sigh follows with a laugh. "It's been a lot these last few weeks. I just want it to be over. I don't want this anymore, Jessie. I want you back. I want that life we had a month ago back. I'm angry at myself for leaving you that night. It should have been me. You have more to live for than me. I'm just a stupid guy that builds houses. But you baby, you've got a lot to live for. Your kids, your family, everything. I just hate that this is what god did to you. You don't deserve this. You deserve to be playing with your babies right now. We all need you. I need you. Jessica I need you... I just keep thinking about when we were younger. At the senior prom when we were dancing to your favorite song "When I Fall In Love". You told me that you wanted me to sing that to you on our wedding day. Well I'm waiting... I'm waiting to sing that to you. Just give me the chance to. Just open your eyes. Come back to us."

Midnight:

Sam and George were sleeping on the cold hospital floor while Albert slept in the chair, Dorthy slept on the couch, and Jane and Sarah slept on a blow up mattress close to their mother.

The doctors were concerned with Jessica's health and advised the family to stay close. They were worried that Jessica may not have many nights left. They slept with one eye open.

Suddenly, Sam wakes up to a small cough. He was barely asleep, so when he heard this little cough he sat up. He looked around the room and heard the cough again.

It didn't sound like a regular cough. It sounded like a struggle cough. Sam looked up at Jessica from the bed and saw something that he couldn't believe.

"Oh my god." He says loudly

"What? What?" George says waking up

Everyone wakes up and watches Sam go to Jessica.

Her eyes were open. She looked right up at Sam with big eyes. He couldn't believe it. Jessica was awake.
