January 3rd, Jack's First Birthday:

Ever since Danny moved the three kids back with him to New York, it has been quite the adjustment for everyone. Danny was doing it all on his own, but he didn't complain because this is what he wanted to do.

He would continuously go back to the thought of it being irrational or selfish picking up everything and taking the kids away from Minnesota, but in his heart he knew it was best for his kids to be away from everything that was going on.

The kids were a handful to say the least. They missed their mother and they were confused. They were taken from their home and had a hard time getting used to being with their dad full time.

There was no update on Jessica. Danny worried everyday and called Evan and Sarah for constant updates.

For Jack's birthday Evan and Sarah we're driving up
To New York to spend some time with the kids. Sarah hated Danny with a passion but him and Evan were still very close. Sarah was sucking it up for the kids.

When they arrived Danny was relieved. He was happy to have some visitors and for the kids to have more distractions.

"Where is the birthday boy?" Sarah says as she walks into the apartment.

"Aunt Sarah!" Scarlett jumps

"Hi my love!" She says giving the little toddler the biggest hug

"Baby Jack is one!" Wyatt says

"I know! Let me give the little chunk some love!" Sarah picks up Jack from his play pin and gives him the biggest hug.

She holds the baby close to her and closes her eyes. Being with Jessica's kids made her feel so close to Jessica. She could almost cry. Her heart hurt so much for the three little ones.

"How are you holding up?" Evan asks Danny

"I'm barely hanging in there. I haven't slept in days. They've been a handful." Danny says with exhaustion

"To think, Jessica does this twenty four hours a day, even days a week." Sarah snaps

"Sarah..." Evan says

"I'm sorry. I'm sorry. But you know how I feel about you. You're an..." then Sarah mouths the word "ass"

Danny sighs "I know. I'm sorry."

"Today is about Jack! He's a year old!" Sarah says

"Is mommy coming?" Scarlett tugs on Sarah's jacket

Sarah sighs and shakes her head. "No babygirl. I'm so sorry."

Scarlett crosses her arms and starts to cry. "No! I want mommy! Or grammy!" She screams

Danny sighs and rushes to his daughter

"Sweetie. Mommy is sick, remember?"

"So!" Wyatt says

The twins start to fuss. Danny panicked. Sarah was able to have a quick look at what Danny had been dealing with. She felt just terrible. There was nothing that they could do.

Minnesota:

"I just got off the phone with Sarah. They are taking the kids to this indoor park for Jack's birthday. God, how much I wish I could see him on his birthday." Dorthy pouts

All of her children sat around her kitchen table for lunch. They had just got back from the hospital where they had went to visit Jessica.

"I think it's good that Danny has the kids and is taking time off work to be with them. They need this distraction." Albert says

"But did he have to do it in New York?" Jane argues

"It's better than here where they'd be surrounded by sadness and stress. Kids pick up everything." Ann says

"Has anyone heard from Sam?" Dorthy asks as she pours herself coffee

"Yeah. He's staying at his parents recovering and going to therapy." George says

"I think you guys made the right decision by keeping him away from the hospital for a while. He needs to focus on himself." Jane says

"You all know we love him. That's why we are doing this. We are giving him updates. But for now, he just cant see Jessica."

"Mom, please, stop! I can do this myself!" Sam snaps at his mother as he tries to dress himself

"Look at you Sammy, you cant do anything!" She cries

"Not with you down my throat." He yells

Jane gasps and steps away from her son

"I'm sorry...." she cries

"I need you to take me to the hospital." He asks

"Why? Are you in pain?" She asks

"No. I want to see Jessica." He says

Jane shakes her head. "No. You can't."

Sam rolls his eyes "She's my girlfriend. She's in that hospital all alone. She needs me."

Jane sits next to Sam and takes his hands.

"You know we can't." She mumbles

Sam shakes his head. "What happened on Christmas... I don't know why I did it. I was just upset. I had a lot of emotions. Truly, I'm fine now. Therapy is working, everything is just fine!"

"I worry about you... This last month has been very hard on you."

"I know what I can handle mom." He says sternly

Jane sighs and sits up. "I guess I can't stop you."

"Bouncy bouncy bouncy!" Danny smiles as he lifts Jack up and Down off the little baby trampoline.

His little blue he's light up with glee and he giggles and giggles as he goes up and down.

Sarah watches from a distance while the twins play with Evan and Danny stays with Jack.

When Danny notices that Sarah is alone he stands up and walks over to the table to sit with her. Danny and Sarah used to be best friends, but after everything that happened with him and Jessica, it didn't seem like their relationship would ever be what it used to be.

"Hey." He says

"Hi."

"Anything from the Lange's?" He asks

Sarah shakes her head and sighs. "No, they went to see her today... no changes. George is telling me that the doctors are starting to give them options. I think
Today ended up being really shitty for them." Sarah tries to hold back her tears. She doesn't want Danny to see her cry.

"I can't believe this happened. The fire. Everything." He says softly

"If Jessica dies, part of my heart dies. We are best friends. As much as I want to be with her right now I know that she'd want me here with her kids." Sarah tears up and wipes her face

"I appreciate you coming here with Evan. It means a lot. Even for mister chubbs." He says handing the smiley baby to Sarah

Sarah picks up jack and holds him in front of her face. "You are your mamas son, aren't you?" She giggles

"That smile. Those eyes. The hair. All Jessica." Danny says

"I know this is hard on you too." She says taking Danny's hand

He puts his head down and nods. "I fucked up with her. But I'll always love her."

"You need to stay strong for these kids though, Danny. This is your time to prove everyone wrong. Be the man you used to be. Not some asshole that's trying to prove a point."

Danny looks up at Sarah and agrees. "What do I do?"

"What you're doing now, being super dad."

"Thanks for the ride, John." Sam says to his friend who picked him up and drove him to the hospital.

"Yeah, let me help you out and to the floor." John says grabbing Sam's crutches.

The two of them make their way up to Jessica's room. When they arrived John leaves Sam to it and waits in the lobby.

It felt like forever since Sam last saw Jessica. He didn't want to be kept away from her. She kept him going. As long as her heart was beating, so was his.

He limps over to Jessica and leaves the biggest kiss on her lips. He notices that her room was changed up a bit. It gave him comfort knowing that people visited her everyday.

He took Jessica's hand and kissed it. "I'm sorry for what I did. It was stupid. I didn't want to die. I don't know what went through my head. But Jessie. You need to come back to me. It's Jack's birthday for gods sake. Your missing your son'a birthday! Wake up damn it!"
