We Miss Him

"Listen baby, I will be home before you know it. These 13 weeks will go by so quickly." Sam says holding Jessica's shoulders
"I am going to miss you so much."
"Just think about our memories."
"Promise you won't get hurt."
"It's only boot camp, not war."
"I know! But still."
"Don't worry so much.
I just need to know one thing."
"What is it?"
"Will you stay faithful? 13 weeks is a long time with no action you know?"
"What kind of question is that! Of course baby."
"I love you."
"I love you too."

When they get to security Sam walks off waving goodbye. Jessica turns around and cups her face so Sam couldn't see her cry.

5 months later Sam headed to Paris Island were he would spend 13 weeks in boot camp to become a Marine. Jessica was sick to her stomach when she left. Waving goodbye to him at he airport was the hardest thing. Jessica wouldn't be able to have any contact with Sam what so ever until boot camp was over. At the airport Sam gave Jessica a long hug and kiss. Jessica in a way was angry about him leaving, but she later discovered another reason Sam wanted to join the marines. In honor of his late grandfather who's name was very well respected. Sam wanted to live up to his name and be like him. Jessica had understood it's what he needed and wanted to do.

Jessica walked into her empty apartment and set down her purse. She looked out her window that overlooked the small city.

Jessica grabbed a wine glass and poured herself a drink. She slipped into her pajamas and sat on the couch watching The Real Housewives Of New Jersey.
Jessica's phone rang, it was her best friend Sarah.

"Hello?" Jessica says softly
"Jess, is he gone?" Sarah says
"Yes, he should be in the air now."
"Oh I am sorry Jess."
"Thanks"
"What are you up to?"
"Sitting here drinking wine, nothing spectacular."
"Can I come over and get drunk with you. I don't want you to be alone." Sarah giggles
"I would really like that. It's not fun drinking alone."
Sarah came over and sat with Jessica. They spent the night drinking and laughing. Jessica all of a sudden has forgotten about Sam leaving and all of her sadness was gone.

**
A month went by. Jessica tried to carry on as much as she could, she was able to get her schoolwork done quicker and take extra classes now that she didn't have to come home to somebody every night. Sarah would check in on Jessica and they would go to parties and hang out. Sarah wanted to distract her and the let Sam being gone hold he back from doing fun things.

"Jessica, it's Jane." Sam's mom says
"Hi, how are you?" Jessica says
"Not good. I feel so sick not being able to hear from him." Jane softly cries
"I am sorry Jane. He will be home soon, and we will be heading out there to watch him graduate."
"It's like watching my dad leave for the marines all over again, but now it's him."
"Jane, did you want me to come over and keep you company for a while?"
"I would really love that." She says sniffling.

Jessica drove into their hometown to see Sam's mother. Jessica felt bad that she was such a mess. Jane understood what Jessica was going through. It was easier for Jessica to talk to Jane than to Sarah who wouldn't tell her to party it out.

When Jessica arrived at Jane's home she noticed a Marines flag hanging on their porch. Jessica smiled. When she walked in Jane showered her with hugs. The whole kitchen table was filled with pictures of Sam as a young kid. Jane's eyes were red a swollen from crying. Jessica comforted her as they looked over pictures of him.

"This is Sammy when he was a little baby.
I miss his voice. I seem to have forgotten it." Jane wipes her tears.
"Me too." Jessica looks at the different pictures and smiles.
"I hope he is okay. Sam always hated running, I herd they make them do a lot of running."
"He will be fine, he's a tough guy." Jessica giggles
"He is so lucky to have a women like you stand by him.
You know I beat myself up everyday for not being able to afford his classes. I always think, what if I worked on those days instead of taking off."
"Jane, I honestly think Sam had been wanting to do it for a while. I don't think school was right for him."
"I think the same way sometimes. Don't you miss him, you are all alone in that apartment."
"I miss him everyday, but I know he will be home soon."
"His little sisters miss him, so much."
"I bet they do. We all miss him."
