Jessica and Sam were the image of high school sweethearts. They started dating sophomore year of high school. They were always nominated for homecoming court, everyone loved them. Jessica and Sam were happy together. Though there were ups and downs, they had their love for each other. Come senior year Jessica graduated top of her class. Jessica graduated with an academic scholarship to The University Of Minnesota. Sam followed her to UM. Sophomore year of college they moved out of their parents homes and bought an apartment together. 7 years of lover, laughter, and happiness. It was all Jessica and Sam could ever wish for.

It was now Jessica and Sam's junior year of college. They still lived in the Sam apartment. Both busy with school, they studied hard.
"Here is a beer honey." Jessica says sitting down next to Sam.
"I hate this!" Sam says opening the beer bottle.
"Just focus, this stuff is easy baby." Jessica says helping Sam study.
"But it isn't."
"Don't get discouraged."
"Why am I so stupid."
"Samuel, shut up. You aren't stupid." She says sternly.
"Maybe if I go to the gym for a bit I can clear my brain to study later."
"No! You are staying here and I am going to help you pass this exam. You need the grade baby." Jessica rubs his back and rest her head on his shoulder.
"Thank you, for pushing me."
"Enough stalling, lets go!"
Jessica and Sam spend the night studying. Sam's grades were not good and he was failing off of his exams. Jessica was worried that his parents would cut him off.

"Remember, you can do this baby." Jessica gets on her tippy toes and kisses Sam.
"Crossing my fingers."
"Take your time, read over everything and don't over think it."
"I won't baby. Have a good day. Study hard lovely lady."
"I will. Go get that A!"
Later on during the day Jessica meets up with Sam for their regular lunch date. Sam was very quite and looked discouraged.
"How do you think you did?"
"Not good. He graded them."
"What did you get, a B?"
"Worse."
"C?" Jessica says with her eyes widened.
"64.9%" Sam punches the table and Jessica jumps.
"Sam, I don't know what to say. I swear you knew your stuff!"
"I thought I did to. Now it's time to call my parents."
"Talk to the professor first. Ask for a redo."
"I already tried. I gotta go call them."
Jessica sighs as she walks Sam go into the other room to call his parents.
A couple days later his parents told Sam that they couldn't afford to pay for summer classes. They could no longer afford for any kind of class. Sam either had to drop out, find his own money, or set up student loans. Which he didn't want to be in debt for ever.
Jessica felt for bad for Sam. He was beating himself up so badly, he was disappointed in himself and embarrassed. Sam had always had a job but not a wonderful paying one. Sam planned to graduate with his PHD and become an metallurgic engineer.
Three months later-
Sam took the last of his classes for the year and didn't enroll for senior year. He had talked to a few people and contacted his old school guidance counselor that helped him get into UM. Sam decided that to support himself and have a good future so he could have a college education he would join the US Marines. He knows Jessica would hate the idea. She always talks about how scary it has to be for army wives and families, not being able to contact them. He only hopes Jessica will understand he is doing it for their future.
Sam prepared a nice home dinner for Jessica and sat at their small kitchen table waiting for her to get home from classes.
When she walked in her eyes lit up.
"What's going on here?" Jessica smiles putting down her bag.
"Sit down beautiful."
"Don't mind if I do. Smells amazing!" Sam pulls out the chair for Jessica and sits down across from her.
"This all looks amazing." Jessica smiles
"You deserve it. For supporting me so much these last few months."
"Aww baby. I love you, that's why I do it. I am always here for you."
"I love you too." Sam takes her hands and looks down.
"Is something going on honey?" Jessica looks at Sam concerned.
"I have decided that this coming July I will be leaving for boot camp, to join the Marines." Sam says nervously
"You have decided? Baby, how could you not tell me sooner." Jessica says holding back the tears.
"I just sent in my letter. I am sorry I didn't tell you, I just really need to do this for me."
"Samuel! You can't leave me to join the army! There has to be another option." Jessica says
"I want to do this, I need you to support me."
Jessica pulls her hand away from Sam and covers her mouth.
"How long have you been planning this. You can't just join the marines." Jessica crosses her arms.
"A month."
"Damn you Sam. We live under the same roof and you hide shit like this from me!" Jessica bangs the table.
"I knew you wouldn't let me do this jessie. But I have to. For me, for my future, for the future of us." Sam wipes his face and looks at Jessica with quivering lips.
"How dare you think I would hold you back from something you want to do."
"I am sorry."
"I can't Handel this right now. Just the fact that you have been hiding something so big. I am happy that you finally found your solution, but I don't think I can-" Jessica takes a deep breath than breaks down into tears. Sam stands up and walks over to her hugging her tight.
"It's okay baby."
"I won't be able to see you everyday, and call you. You'll be thousands of miles away and all we can do is write to each other. I don't know if I can do that. But I love you so much."
"Our love is what keeps us together. No matter how far apart. If we cherish our love and protect it we can get through anything. I promise baby. 13 weeks will go by so fast."
Sam hugs her and calms her down, giving Jessica endless kisses.
