The Ring
Montana-
"Sam... it's so beautiful!" Jessica says as she enters the Montana home. Jessica was in ahh. It was truly her dream home. It was big, had a great view, and was so homey. It's all she could ever ask for.
"Don't get too crazy. We have lots of cleaning." Sam chuckles
"Well, not all cleaning, right?" Jessica says as she comes up to Sam and wraps her arms around him and holds his close.
"Of course not. I have some fun plans for us." He whispers as he leaves a kiss on her lips.
"This is what I need. A get away. A beautiful getaway."
"Could you say, romantic getaway?" Sam smirks
"Romantic for sure... I can't wait for morning. The view will be beautiful!"
"I remember all of my summers here. My uncle, he had a boat. Every morning, he would take me and my brothers on the boat to fish. Before breakfast. Then my aunt would cook amazing omlets. It was like a second home. When I got back from deployment, for my first and last time, I came here." He says with sadness
"Oh Sam, I forgot how close you were with your uncle."
"Yeah.... it's a shame, but, being here one last time is what I need to let go. I'm glad you're here."
"Me too.... it's getting late, let's find us a bed."
"Not my aunt and uncles, please. As gorgeous as a room, I just can't." He chuckles
Jessica laughs "okay sweetie."

The next morning-
The bright rays of sunlight woke Jessica up. There were no curtains, just beautiful views. It was all she ever wanted. She rolled over, Sam was not there. She quickly sat up and got out of bed. She wrapped herself in her blanket and went to the windows. The view was beautiful.... she could see the sparkly lake that was right in the back yard and all of the mountains that stood so tall with the smallest amount of snow at the top. The trees were bare, but Jessica didn't mind. Nothing was blocking her view... she was used to the cold weather, bare trees, and brown grass. It was like home....
Jessica then smelled something delicious coming from downstairs. She ran a brush through her hair, put on her slippers and soft sweater as she headed down the long, winded stair case.
"Sam?" She says ... her voice echoes and bounces back from one wooden panel to another.
"Hey, I'm in here. You won't believe it! I found my aunts cooking recipes and made her famous omelets. One for you and one for me." He says placing the warm plates on the table.
"It smells delicious. You weren't always one to cook Mr. Shepard."
"Well, Miss. Lange, I Picked up a few tips." He smirks
"The view... it's so magical in the morning." She says as she takes a bite of the steamy omelet.
"What do you think?" He says anxiously waiting for a response.
"Gosh! Amazing! Sam! Wow!"
"You didn't think I had it in me."
"Well, your history in cooking isn't so peachy." She giggles
"I'm glad you like them." He says taking another bite
"What's the agenda for today?" She asks
"Head up to town, get some more food, then stop at the hardware store, get some moving boxes, trash bags, cleaning supplies, all that Jazz. Maybe get a head start today so we feel like we accomplished a lot. Giving us some free days to explore, hike, maybe go out on the lake if you're brave enough."
"Brave enough? Please. I love a good boat ride in the mist of winter." She giggles
"Also, great architecture here. Maybe get some photos, for ideas! Gosh, lets stop at some open houses and get decorating ideas too!"
Jessica smiles "it all sounds wonderful. It seems like you have this whole trip planned out."
"I was very anxious for us to get out and explore." He chuckles
"And I love that. Let's finish breakfast, shower... together-"
"Ahh, I love the sound of that, continue..." He smirks
She blushes "Change, head out, then come out and go hard on the cleaning with a few beers and music."
"This is why we are basically the same person. We think alike."

The next day-
The previous day Jessica and Sam has done so much. They were both up until midnight cleaning, organizing, throwing things away, making piles, and trying to get through most of the downstairs. And that they did. The downstairs was completely transformed.
As accomplished as they felt, they were too exhausted. Once they cleared out the downstairs they hung out there for a while relaxing. They sat on the couch and looked through some tiny boxes.
"Hey, pictures. Dating back all the way to when we were in high school together. Go figure!" Sam chuckles
"I bet there are lots of good pics in there for your family to keep." Jessica says as she was distracted by another box of things
"Well see, this whole box is labeled Sam and Jess." He chuckles
"What? No way!" Jessica's eyes grow wide. She turns to Sam and sits extra close to him.
"I don't know if I want to see what's inside!" Jessica giggles
"Look, senior prom. Damn, we looked good." Sam says brining the pictures close to his eyes.
Jessica hits him playfully and smiles "We were so unbelievably high."
"I mean hey, isn't that what high schools about?" He jokes
"Oh look, a box." Jessica says grabbing it from the bottom.
Sam quickly panics and takes it out of her hands. "Must have been put in the wrong box!" He says nervously
"Umm, relax. We can look inside." She says taking it from him.
Jessica slowly opens the velvet box and a note falls out.
To my dearest Sammy,
I found the exact ring that you said she dreamed of. I only hope that when you give this to her she has the biggest smile on her face and that she never takes it off. You two are meant to be. I'm so proud of you and the man you've become. She'll love it. I know this because I see how she looks at you and how you look at her. Congrats, go get em!"
-Uncle Ron
After reading the note Jessica sees a tiny silver wedding band with a diamond in the center. Her heart starts to race and she tears up. "Sam, who was this ring for?" She asks
Sam clears his throat and takes the letter. "It was for you. Sometimes you'd talk about your dream engagement ring. I told my uncle one day, and he had it customized for you. This ring is eleven years old." He says softly
"Wait, but we started dating eleven years ago... we were just in high school." She says with an uncomfortable laugh
"Well, there was something about you... that something made me so sure that I'd marry you one day. I kept it for so many years. When things ended with us, I gave it back to my uncle. I guess he held onto it all these years later."
Jessica didn't know what to say. Her heart swelled. All of her love for Sam was so overwhelming. It took her a second to say something. Her mind took her back to how simple things were between the two of them when they first started dating. He gave her a wonderful seven years. Now, here they were, a couple years later, together again.
"That's really sweet." She whispers
"It's tacky, I know."
"No, it's not." She says taking his hand. "It's lovely." Jessica leans in and gives Sam the biggest kiss.
"Being here with you just brings back the past. How simple things were. How in love we were!" He says with the biggest smile
"Me too. I remember spending time with you in Montana." She says
"I need to get something off my chest." He says
"What is it?" She asks
"Leaving you for the marines was the biggest mistake off my life. Making the decisions for our future, being such a bad boyfriend... it was the biggest mistakes that I've ever made, letting you go. I don't know what I did to deserve you again. But I'm happy that we are together. I'm ready to tell the whole world that we are together again and in love. I'm ready to never let you go, Jessica Lange."
