Going Home
July 7th-
A week and a half had passed and the doctors were right, it was going to be, and was, the hardest week of their lives. Scarlett had went through extensive testing. She was a zombie... her little body had been through so much and that was only the start. Throughout her testing Danny and Jessica just tried to distract her and keep her company, but it later turned into her not even responding and just laying there staring into the sky because of all the drugs.
As the end of the second week was approaching everyone was hoping for good news. The doctors did not bring up surgery once, nurses even said during brainstorming periods it didn't come up. That was a great sign.
Nurses were always in and out of the room checking on Scarlett. Doctors stopped in less frequently. The nurses were amazing and comforting. Every time they walked in it was refreshing for Jessica and Danny. They knew they were exhausted and tried to give them a break once and a while. Especially Jessica who was feeling extra down and tried. She had been starting to catch a cold. Being in a hospital all day with high stress levels didn't help either.
"Scarlett's meds are staring to wear off a bit. She's becoming more alert." The nurse, Kathy, says to Jessica and Danny who were half asleep.
"She's like a zombie... I can't stand it! I'm angry at how much drugs they gave her!" Danny snaps
"It's to make the testing less harsh on her.... she'll be back."
"Kathy, is there anyway you or a doctor could flu test me? I'm feeling so under the weather." Jessica says
"Jessie, I told you to go back to the hotel and rest... I can stay here." Danny says
Ever since they arrived Jessica and Danny didn't visit the hotel once. They were always by Scarlett's side. She was so young, they couldn't imagine leaving her alone.
"I can flu test you right now." She says sliding on her gloves and pulling out the kit.
she swabs her mouth and waits a bit.
"It's negative, you don't have the flu! It could just be a bug."
"I hope... I feel like a wreck." Jessica moans
"I hope you feel better ma'am. Just drink lots of fluids and rest."
Once Kathy leaves Jessica spreads out on the couch and rests her head on Danny's lap.
"Jessie, go rest at the hotel tonight, please. You've been feeling like this since the day they started testing. If you're sick you want to get rid of it so she doesn't get sick."
Jessica sighs "You'll be okay here?"
"Oh course... Nothings going to happen tonight, anyways. Just be back in the morning for rounds."
Jessica sits up and leans in to kiss Danny.
"No way, you're sick!" He says rejecting her kiss
Jessica giggles "I'll see you in the morning, thank you." She blows him a kiss, grabs her things and heads out.
When she leaves Danny kisses Scarlett on the cheek goodnight then sits in a chair next to her bed. Usually Jessica would stay in the reclining chair at night next to Scarlett, but Danny wanted a turn. He held his daughters tiny hand tight in his own and prayed. Tears rolled down his face as he did. He asked god over and over to get his little girl out of this hospital so they could go home and live their lives normally.

"Mama!" Danny hears faintly
He tosses in the recliner then opens his eyes. It was Scarlett. She seemed a little off, but much more alert.
"Hey baby girl... how do you feel?" Danny asks
"I want mama!" She cries
A nurse rushes in. "It seems our little Scarlett is up. Hi sweetie!" The nurse says as she checks her monitors.
"Dada!" She yells
"Okay baby, I'll get mommy." He says grabbing his phone with excitement
Scarlett of course had been awake these last few days, part time. But it seemed that all of the drugs were warring off and she wasn't a zombie anymore.
"I'd suggest calling her, the doctors have some great news." The nurse smiles
Danny smiles back and calls Jessica.
Not even a half an hour later Jessica arrives back in Scarlett's room.
"Baby, mommy's here!" Jessica giggles giving her a big hugs
"Brother and Dada?" She asks
"Wyatt is at grandmas and daddy is right here!" Jessica points to Danny
As she hugs Scarlett Danny joins the hug. "Feeling better?" He asks
"I needed the rest last night. Thank you."
"I heard the nurses and doctors have some big news!" Jessica smiles
"Yes! They're coming in soon!" Danny cheers
"Yay!" Scarlett exclaims, even though she didn't know what was going on.
"You're such a brave little girl... mommy and daddy are so happy that you stayed strong..." Jessica smiles
"Yes, when we leave we're going to go on a fun trip with you and Wyatt."
Jessica looks up at Danny with wide eyes.
"Disney world?"
"Danny!" Jessica giggles
"Anywhere for my princess and prince." He says kissing Scarlett.

A few hours later and Scarlett perked up a lot, which was very refreshing. The drugs were no longer making her a different child, rather the same one she used to be. And knowing that good news was awaiting everyone made Jessica and Danny hopeful. They let back home know, so everyone had Scarlett's in their prayers.
The doctors pulled Jessica and Danny aside for another meeting. This time the room wasn't dull. It has bulletin boards everywhere covered in scans, tests, and notes. The conference table had articles, pills, and pictures. Seeing this really opened Jessica and Danny's eyes to how hard they had been working.
"Please, sit!" Doctor Ravi says
"Welcome!" Another doctor says
These doctors were in the best mood of their life...
"We have great news and want to get right to it." A doctor says
Then, Doctor Ravi takes charge "Over the last week and a half you have witnessed Scarlett at her worst as we put her through difficult testing. It's hard on a little girl like her or anyone, and we appreciate all of your support and patience.... after many scans, test, and drugs we have found the trigger to her seizures. And after finding out what it is, we do believe if you would have went to any other doctor, they wouldn't have been able to find it. Scarlett's case of epilepsy is rare... now the average doctor would just want to put her under the knife and look around until they find something, but not us."
Jessica and Danny let out sighs of relief and held onto their hands even tighter.
Then, another doctor continues. "From our observations the type of seizure Scarlett has the most often is a grand mal. Grand mal seizures occur when the electrical activity over the whole surface of the brain becomes abnormally synchronized. The brain's nerve cells normally communicate with each other by sending electrical and chemical signals across the synapses that connect the cells. Scarlett's brain isn't doing its job in protecting her from these seizures, and as you know they are draining. There is a little spot in the back of her brain where the seizure starts. It's very hidden, but we have the medication to make sure that little spot works correctly without surgery. It's all part of the epilepsy."
"There are two reasons Scarlett is having a seizure... not only does she have epilepsy due to brain abnormalities but meningitis as well. When we did our spinal tap we did find small traces of it... it's very rare in her case."
"The meningitis is what's making the seizures more aggressive and the reason she isn't responding to medication. In this case we've all been trying to kill this one bird with one stone... but there was another bird we didn't know about, the meningitis. So while we've been killing the one, the other is still flying around."
"Wait, so this was our surprise? To tell us our daughter is sicker than she thought?" Danny says
"Let them finish." Jessica snaps
As nervous, scared, and devastated as she was, she had a feeling good news was coming.
"There is medication to help Scarlett. Today we started her on a drip to help kill off the meningitis. It's not an aggressive form of it either, which is good."
"But it is aggressive enough to trigger the seizures more than her brain was already."
"It won't be anymore. She will spend three more days here so we can monitor her a bit and make sure she reacts correctly to the medications, no seizures. then we will send you home with her new medications. She'll take her medications for the epilepsy daily, for a very long time. And the medications for the meningitis will last a month. When they are finished you'll take her to your doctor at home and he or she will test to make sure she's clear." Doctor Ravi smiles
"So you're telling us everything will be alright? Our little girl will be able to live a happy normal life again? Go back to school? No more helmet? And just live life?" Jessica cries
"Yes!"
"No surgery?"
Then the doctors clears her throat. "We hope not for a very long time?"
"There is a chance?" Danny's smile disappears
"As she gets older her epilepsy may progress. But we aren't for sure... for now just do everything you're suppose to do.... keep a log. Fax us the log as well."
"Don't worry, it's highly unlikely."
Jessica turns to Danny and holds him tight. They both cry a bit out of relief and joy.

Later that night Scarlett was fast asleep. When she found out she would be leaving the hospital soon it made her so excited. Then again she was young, she didn't really understand. Danny had noticed that throughout the rest of the day Jessica was of course happy, but something was going on in her head. Today had been such an overwhelmingly happy day, but something was up.
"Hey, Jess, lets take a little walk." He says to Jessica who was wide awake.
She takes his hand and they go down to the cafeteria.
"Today, it was an amazing day. I feel as if a million pounds were taken off my chest."
"Me too... I'm glad she's going to be okay. Even though meningitis is a bit scary."
"They told us it wasn't aggressive. Just enough to trigger intense seizures."
They walk for a bit and it became very quite and awkward. Jessica was very tense.
Danny stops her and they move over to a chair in a waiting room.
"Jess, what's wrong?"
Jessica shakes her head. "I have something to tell you." She says
"What?"
A small smirk appears on her face. She takes his hand and places it on her stomach.
"Danny, I'm pregnant." She smiles
He jumps up from his chair and smiles. "You're pregnant?"
"Yes... now be quite please and sit down." She giggles
"When did you find out? Why didn't you tell me sooner?" He asks
Jessica goes into her purse and pulls out a little ultrasound picture. She hands it to Danny and he stares at it in ah. The ultrasound only showed the smallest little bean in the picture.
"Yesterday I had this feeling that I was... I was tired, run down, I had lots of flu symptoms. I haven't had my period since the miscarriage too. When I knew it wasn't the flu, I asked Kathy to give me a pregnancy test before I left the hospital last night. I didn't want to tell you until I knew for sure. After the test when I found out it was positive I was shocked. I'd didn't know how it was possible since we just lost the baby five weeks ago. I asked for an ultrasound. And there is our baby, right there..."
"It's so little... Jessica, I can't believe this." He begins to cry a bit. Today was filled with so many happy moments, and this one for sure topped it off.
"How far along are you then?"
"Twelve weeks..."
"Wait, so we never lost the baby?"
Jessica sighs "we did... apparently
it was twins."
He takes her hand and kisses it. "I'm sorry, babe..."
"It's hard, but it's okay... because this baby is okay. Twelve weeks Danny!"
"That's the okay mark?"
"Yes! It is!"
"Holy shit! We are having another baby!" He stands up and Jessica stands up with him. He holds her tight as she begins to cry as well.
"I love you, I love you, I love you." He repeats over and over
"I love you too." She giggles
"Three kids! Holy shit! Three kids!"

Surprise, I hope you're all enjoying this❤️ I'm sorry for the lack of updates. Sadly lifeguarding and swim practice have taken over my summer. But I'm going to try my best.
