Chapter 4
I finished telling Jisung my story by telling him about the night that Chris saved me. He stared at me, tears on the brink of overflow, and I understood. No one should ever go through what happened to me at such a young age. We continued in shared silence, until I looked up again to see a single tear rolling down his cheek.
I wiped the tear with my thumb and I felt my tears begin to roll as well. We sat there together, crying, for some time.
"I'm so incredibly sorry Y/N."
I smiled sadly at the boy. "You have nothing to be worried about, Jisung. None of you could've stopped it, and we didn't even know each other yet. It's okay."
He shook his head and smiled at me. "Well, you're with us now," he said as he wrapped me up in a hug, "and I promise that no one will ever hurt you again. We will protect you."
I smiled at the boy as I wiped away my tears. "Thank you, Jisung."
He jumped up unexpectedly, making me jump slightly in turn. "Let's go make dinner for everybody!" I smiled at him and got up. I looked at the clock and, seeing that it was already 6 o'clock.
We went into the kitchen and prepped some orange chicken and rice. It only took about 30 minutes, but the smell was mouthwatering. I turned on some music and me & Han started to jump around, singing and dancing.
When we had finished, Jisung took out the bowls and chopsticks while I chopped up some green onions to top off the dish, only a little bit though, because I didn't know who would want some.
Soon enough, I heard the click of the door knob opening. Soon enough, the 7 other boys came through the door, looking as exhausted as ever. When Jisung and I came around the corner, I noticed that they woke up a little bit as they smiled and waved. Felix's eyes lit up as he ran past us and into the kitchen. I smiled as I walked back to the kitchen while Han went to talk to the other boys.
"Wow, Lix, you're more excited to see the food than us? That stings." I heard an excited gasp from the living room. "Y/N made food again?" Chan, I smiled to myself. Before I could blink, the rest of the boys were lining up to get their dinner. Felix giggled as he turned back to me, bowl & chopsticks in hand. "Thank you for breakfast and dinner today, Y/N."
I smiled back. "Of course, Felix. It wasn't any trouble at all."
As the rest of the boys, Han included, went back into the living room with their bowls, I went to get my dinner. As I scooped the rice into the bowl, I heard a honey-like voice from the kitchen entryway. "You're amazing, you know that?" I giggled. "I'm flattered, Chris. But such flattery isn't always necessary, flowers would do."
He chuckled as we walked back to the living room together. "I'll make sure to remember that next time."
Finally, all 9 of us were back in the living room. Changbin, Felix and I sat on the floor, while Chan sat behind me. Felix's back was against the couch and Changbin sat between his legs. Hyunjin, Seungmin and Jeongin sat in a triangle, sharing a blanket so as to not get food on the floor. Minho and Han sat next to Chris on the couch.
We watched a random movie together on the TV. I laid my head against Chan's knee, and he started to braid pieces of my hair. When the movie was over, they decided to do a rock paper scissors battle, which I stood off to the side for.
Han tried dragging me over but I stayed still. "Nuh-uh. The cook never cleans."
Ultimately, Changbin lost, and we all ran outside to hide from him. Being that it was winter, it was quite cold outside. I was rubbing my hands together, trying to keep them warm, when I heard someone clear their throat.
"Here," Chris whispered, handling me his grey hoodie. I put the oversized sweater on, letting the sleeves fall over my hands to keep them insulated. I sat on the porch swing and Chan sat next to me.
I hadn't noticed up til that point, but the black long sleeve shirt he was wearing accentuated his biceps rather well. Snap out of it!!, I thought to myself, shaking my head. I noticed that he had rested his arm on the back of the swing. Cautiously, I scooted closer to him, resting my head on his shoulder.
We stayed like that for some time, watching as the rest of the guys played freeze tag and ran around. Eventually, we heard Changbin yell from inside that he was finished washing dishes.
When everyone got back inside, we sat down in the living room as Jisung went to go and grab a board game. He set up the Monopoly board and everyone grabbed a game piece. I opted to be the banker and let the rest of the boys play. Hyunjin times first and ended up landing on some property, purchasing two houses for it. Within the next turn, Jeongin landed on his property, groaning when he had to pay the rent.
The game went on for 2 more hours, and it was getting more and more interesting. Jeongin, Seungmin, Jisung, Chan, and Felix were all bankrupt. Minho had all of the railroads and 4 properties, Hyunjin had 3 properties, and Changbin's only bragging points were Baltic Avenue and the electric company. Needless to say, it was pretty heated right now.
Hyunjin unfortunately landed on Minho's railroad and gave him the last bit of his money, then got up to get a snack from the kitchen. Changbin and Minho glared into each other's eyes as Changbin rolled the dice.
"ARE YOU KIDDING ME?" He exclaimed. He landed on one of Minho's hotels and then flipped the board over. "Changbin!", you scolded. "This is supposed to be a democracy!"
Changbin threw his money down and yelled out "FUCK THE DEMOCRACY!" We all began laughing so hard it became difficult for us to breathe. Changbin huffed frustratedly. "Love how you guys think this is funny."
Hyunjin came back from the kitchen with a bowl of ice cream. "I'll have you all know that we just spent four hours playing a game that teaches you how easy it is to corrupt the government."
Han giggled and flicked his game piece towards Changbin. "Fuck the government!" He yelled out.
"JISUNG WE HAVE CHILDREN PRESENT!" Chris scolded as Seungmin covered Jeongin's ears. Han just laughed and attempted to take a bite of Hyunjin's ice cream, failing miserably.
We all hung out in the living room for a while, but it wasn't long before we were tiring each other out. Jeongin was the first to go to bed, followed shortly after by a few of the the others. Soon, it was just me and Chan left. I picked up the scattered game pieces as he picked up and folded the various blankets.
I put the game back under the coffee table and turned the TV off. Out of nowhere, Chan burst into a giggle fit. "It's kind of funny, Y/N." He said. "Just a few days ago you were living a completely normal life and now you live with a bunch of gang members."
I had to hold myself back from telling that my life was anything but normal. I laughed along with him. "Goodnight, Y/N. Since tomorrow is Saturday, we'll all go out and do something fun." I smiled and walked over to him before taking a deep breath in and kissing him on his cheek. "Goodnight, Channie."
I ran off to my room and shut the door, squealing quietly.
"Sooooo what happened this time?"
I jumped at the sudden voice, turning to find Felix sprawled out across my bed, tossing my kangaroo plush up in the air over and over again. I let out an exasperated sigh and went to brush my teeth. "Nothing, Lix, I haven't the faintest idea what you're talking about."
As I brushed my teeth, I saw him get up from the corner of my eye and wander over to the bathroom. "Do you wanna know why I gave you that look when you picked out that Kangaroo plush out of all the others?" He asked me, slightly amused.
I nodded before spitting out the toothpaste and grabbing my rinse cup. "It's because Chan-hyung's favorite animal is a Kangaroo." I snorted and had to spit out the water.
"What??"
Felix started laughing. "Yep. You're lucky I'm the only one who knows." Mentally, I face palmed. "Seungmin knows too. He came in here yesterday to grab my phone so nobody could track it."
Lix made a face. "Then I can guarantee you everyone but Chris knows." I laughed, but his expression didn't change. "So you're not kidding?" He shook his head. "Unfortunately not, I do know however that nobody's told him."
I let out a sigh of relief. "Thank god. Well thank you for telling me, at least."
"Of course, Y/N, anything else?"
I walked back over to my bed, flopping down and grabbing my kangaroo. (A/N: yes I threw that in there on purpose) "I had an opportunity earlier to tell him about what happened to me, but it didn't come out. I don't know why. Talking to you and Han seemed so easy, but when it comes to Chan, I get all frazzled."
Felix laid down next to me and stared up at the ceiling, hands underneath his head. "I get that. Sometimes the one person you want to trust the most is the one you can't bring yourself to trust."
We laid there for quite some time, just the two of us in our own thoughts. It was comforting. Not a silence I was used to, but not one that I would let go of any time soon.
Eventually, Felix yawned and got up. "Goodnight, Y/N-ah." He said sleepily. I smiled softly back at him. "Goodnight Lix."
I couldn't deny that I was enjoying my time with them. They were all so sweet to me and cared for each other immensely. I haven't been formally introduced to everyone yet, but I knew everyone's names. They all seemed to fit their own dynamics. Chan was the rescuer/mom, Felix was the "looks like he could kill you but is actually a cinnamon roll", Jeongin was the baby bread.
I don't know when, and I don't know how, but I know that I would stay with these boys til the end of the world.
Time will reveal what I already know, these boys are my family.
