Chapter 5
I checked my alarm clock.
7:30 AM
As I sat up in bed, wondering why the hell the boys were up this early, something I had not previously acknowledged had finally clicked in my brain. It's Christmas Eve!!
I threw off my covers and rushed to the bathroom, cringing at the sleepy-headed girl in the mirror. I slipped out of my sleep shorts & Chris's hoodie and into some black leggings and a wine red sweater. I slipped on my slippers and went out into the living room, walking to see what all the ruckus was about.
As I exited my room, I noticed Christmas lights strung up and down the hallway, leading out to the living room. The living room itself had lights hung all around, 9 stockings hanging above the fire place, and the neutral-toned blankets underneath the table had been swapped out for Christmas comfort.
Then, from the kitchen I heard a shout, "FELIX NAVIDAD!"
I walked over to the kitchen only to see Seungmin & Jisung songs dancing around Felix, who was sitting on the island with a Santa apron & marching hat on.
I let out a snicker and started to sing along from the doorway, causing Felix to send me a death glare and hop down from the island. I sprinted right out of the kitchen and square into Hyunjin's chest. Immediately, I hid behind him and used him as a human shield. Felix ran out and saw me, immediately running over only to be blocked by Hyunjin.
"You think you're funny, Y/N??" He called out.
"Wrong," I began, as I peeked around Hyunjin's shoulders. "I know for a fact that I'm hilarious."
I took off towards the backyard, Lix hot on my trail. After a couple of laps and close dodges we stood across from each other on opposite sides of the picnic table.
He raised an eyebrow at me as he took off towards my side of the table, and, in surprising success I slid over the top of the table, and sprinted inside, locking the door behind me, leaving Felix stranded outside.
I danced around like a little girl and giggled, causing the other boys to laugh at our antics. Felix pouted at me from outside the door.
"It's too cold, Y/N-ah. Let me innnnnnn."
I stood there, pretending to think about it, before sticking my tongue out and running away from the door, hearing him curse at me from behind the glass doors.
"LEE YONGBOK WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE!" I heard Chan yell from somewhere. I walked back into the kitchen and grabbed a water, putting some strawberry-kiwi flavoring in before shaking it up. Tired from the amount of physical activity that just went down, I took a sip before heading back into the living room.
Jisung met me about halfway before grabbing my water and taking a sip. "Ick. What the heck is that?"
I gasped, fake-offended. "It's Strawberry Kiwi you uncultured swine!" The two of us began laughing as we walked over to where Seungmin and Minho were talking. Seungmin waved me over, patting the couch next to him.
"We were just talking about getting the Christmas tree down, would you like to help decorate?" I smiled and nodded at the two of them. "Sounds like fun!!"
Changbin walked back in and that's when I noticed that the back door was open. "Oh shit." I got up from the couch and ran towards my room, only to find Felix waiting for me there. "I've got you now, Y/N!"
I took off running towards the opposite end of the home, dodging boys & furniture left and right, before hiding behind Changbin. "Traitor!" I whisper-yelled in his ear. Felix walked back into the room and pouted at Changbin, when he turned his head to look at me I knew immediately what was about to happen. "You edgy little shit don't you dare-"
Changbin hopped to the side and Felix grabbed me and started tickling me, causing me to collapse due to laughing so hard. I went to grab for him and then Chan walked in and pulled me up, holding me with an arm around my waist when I steadied myself.
"Great! Now that this is all settled, why don't we go out to the living room, Minho and Seungmin got the Christmas tree down so we could decorate!"
Minho walked in with Jeongin, who was wearing an adorable reindeer antler headband. I squished his cheeks and he pouted at me. "Noonaaaaa stop ittttt."
I giggled to myself. "I can't help it, Innie, you're just too cute." I squished his cheeks more before letting him go. Minho made his way over to Han, throwing an arm around his shoulders as Hyunjin and Seungmin walked in with the ornament boxes, their faces redder than Santa's rosy cheeks.
Felix and Seungmin set up the tree and then headed to the kitchen to get God knows what. With Felix I never really knew 100% of what to expect. Chan handed me a small box of ornaments and I noticed that they were the little animals on the backs of their chairs. I hung them up around the tree, as if they were making a big hug circle.
Chan added some red and gold ornaments before we both tag-teamed to get the lights on. Suddenly, there was a breathtaking smell.
"Everyone, to the dining room! Felix made peppermint brownies & hot chocolate!" Seungmin called out to us. I hung back with Chris and Jeongin for a little bit.
"Noona, you should put the star on!" I.N cheered. Chan nodded his head in agreement as he handed me the star. "I'm too short, Chris." I told him as I grabbed the topper from his hand.
"No worries, Y/N." He said. Chris picked me up, carrying me on his shoulders closer to the tree. I gasped a little, surprised at the sudden show of strength. I placed the star atop the tree and heard Felix begin to sing "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas".
We all sang along as Chan got me down off his shoulders, spinning me around in a (silly) attempt at ballroom dancing. As we slowly but awkwardly spun around, more of the boys began to head to the kitchen. Jisung called out for Chan, interrupting the moment. Wait a second, I caught myself, was this even a "moment"? What just happened?
"Yahhhhh Chan-hyung I'm hungryyyyyy!!" I laughed and nudged him towards the kitchen. "Go on." Almost reluctantly, he turned around, heading to the kitchen with the rest of the boys. It warmed my heart, seeing his father-like caring instincts kick in.
As Chan began cooking lunch for the rest of the guys, I noticed Changbin hanging something above the entrance to the dining room.
It was mistletoe.
I walked up, giggling slightly as I winked at him, giving him a slight nudge on the shoulder. "Is there a certain Aussie you're after, Binnie?"
"Yah!" He sighed, exasperated, as he playfully hit my shoulder. "Besides, Y/N-ah, you're one to talk."
I walked back into the living room, noticing Felix on the couch, scrolling through his phone. I sat next to him, resting my chin on his shoulder as he looked through some memes.
"Bro that one wasn't even funny why are you laughing?" He looked back at me and smirked. "Because it looked like you."
I smacked Felix upside the head, causing him to burst out laughing, then went to see if Chan needed any help. I walked over and noticed him cooking over the stove, so I decided to walk up and hug him from behind, resting my head near his shoulder. He continued to cook, unfazed at the seemingly sudden skinship.
When he was finally finished, he held a spoon up near my face. I let out a satisfied sigh. "Your cooking never ceases to amaze me, Christopher." I grinned at him, giving him a thumbs up and went to get bowls out as well as silverware.
Soon, all of us were seated in the dining room, sipping hot cocoa while we ate Chan's delicious meal and what was left of Felix's peppermint brownies. "We should do a Secret Santa!" Seungmin piped up between bites. A few of the boys just nodded their heads and went back to eating. "I think that sounds like fun," you and Chan said in sync. I looked up at Chris and he looked to the side, rubbing his neck nervously.
Everyone else smiled and nodded in agreement, which meant either A) they didn't notice what just happened, B) they're choosing to ignore it, or C) I'm overthinking all of this. I'm leaning between B and C.
Seungmin mocked their tones, which caused me to laugh a little. When I finished, I went to the kitchen with my used dishes and began to scrub. I went to go pick up everyone else's dishes, it was the least I could do since they were helping me so much. I knew they were withholding information from me but I believed with my whole heart they'd give me the answers when the time was right.
Finishing the dishes, I walked back into the living room, noticing Hyunjin by himself, scrolling on his phone. He looked up at me when I walked in.
"Y/N, do you want to go with me to get Christmas presents for everyone?" He asked me. "But we haven't gotten who our secret Santa is yet?"
He smiled softly at me. "I know, but I still want to get something for everyone."
I smiled back at him, telling him to wait while I went to get changed.
After I changed, we went to one of the more inconspicuous cars, Hyunjin at the driver's side and myself at the passenger's. Before we left, Han came running into the garage. "Wait, you guys! Here are your official Secret Santas!" I grabbed my paper from his hand.
Christopher Bang.
Hyunjin's POV
I grabbed my paper out of Han's hand, Y/N turning hers over and over in her hand.
Kim Seungmin.
Y/N POV
When we finally got in the car, I tucked the paper into my jacket as Hyunjin plugged his iPod into the aux, a familiar song beginning to play.

I heard Hyunjin begin to sing along, and so I sang along with him. This went on as the playlist continued, all the way to the same little shopping mall that Felix took me to.
When we got there, he practically dragged me into a store that had lots of cute hoodies, but I noticed how picky he was being. "Who's it for?"
He smiled at me shyly. "Seungminnie."
I grinned, watching him lock eyes with a solid, baby pink hoodie. No patterns, but it had puppy ears on the hood. I grabbed it from him and made sure it was big enough. I hung it back on it's rack, shaking my head.
"What was wrong with that one?" Hyunjin asked. "Oh, nothing was wrong with it," I stated simply. "It would have fit him perfectly, but you have to buy it a size or two up, it'll look cuter on him that way."
Hyunjin blushed, slightly at my statement before continuing to look around. He finally settled on a pastel yellow hoodie in his size so that he could guarantee that it would be bigger on Seungmin. He payed for the hoodie and we both left the store, walking around some more for quite some time. I told him that I planned on drawing the guys self portraits as opposed to spending so much money right now.
I helped him pick out gifts for everyone else. For Chan, a nice black and red pair of boots with pockets on the outside.
For Minho, a weighed rabbit plush.
For Changbin, a matching Supreme bomber jacket and bucket hat.
For Jisung, a nice, leather bound journal with positive mental health quotes inside.
For Felix, a koala plush with an Australian flag.
For Jeongin, a nice pair of round, Harry Potter-esque glasses.
Eventually, I had to go to the bathroom.
Hyunjin's POV
When Y/N went to the bathroom, I walked to the pet store to confirm that Chan was gonna pick up the golden retriever puppy later tonight. When I walked back out, I noticed a charm bracelet with a golden retriever charm and immediately got it for Y/N. I payed for it and went to wait for her to get out of the bathroom, my arms sore from holding all the bags.
Y/N's POV
We put all of the wrapped presents underneath the tree. It seemed that the other boys had gone out as well, because there was barely anywhere to put anything. I felt a tinge of guilt, seeing as how I was only drawing portraits of everyone, but hoped that they'd appreciate it all nonetheless, since it would be handmade. I headed to my room to get to work.
By the time I finished all the drawings, it was already 9:30. I closed my sketchbook up and slid it into my desk drawer before wiping up the various eraser pieces and pencil shavings that decorated the furniture's surface.
I heard a knock on the door and went to open it. In the walkway stood a very eager I.N. "We saved you some pizza if you want it, Y/N noona!"
Jeongin then grabbed my hand and led me to the dining room where the last two pieces of pizza were on a plate for you. I smiled at him, before quickly sitting down and eating the pizza. I grabbed the empty boxes and took them into the kitchen, disposing of them properly before heading back into the dining room to clean up.
I stood near the arch, watching as Hannie and Lix played video games in the living room. Drawing me out of my trance, I felt someone walk up beside me. I looked up to see Chan, smiling before turning my attention back to the "twins" in the living room.
I felt a pair of lips touch my cheek, turning to look back at Chan, a blush slowly heating up my face. He grinned brightly and pointed above him, causing me to look up and notice the mistletoe that Changbin had hung up earlier. I looked back down at my feet and Chris laughed lightly, his gentle hand grabbing my chin as he leaned in. Our faces were mere centimeters apart, but-
"Y/N NOONA!!!! JISUNGIE ATE ALL MY CHICKEN NUGGIES!"
Chan let out a sigh and rolled his eyes, and I looked out into the living room to see Jeongin pointing at Han, who's cheeks were stuffed, an empty bowl in hand.
I laughed as I went & grabbed the bowl from the maknae before making him more nuggets and bringing them back out to him.
Since it was Christmas Eve, I decided it would be best to go to sleep early. I changed into Chan's sweater and some comfy leggings, laying back down under my blankets, kangaroo plush in hand. Our almost kiss was the last thing I thought about before my heavy eyes drifted to dreams.
He almost kissed me.....
