That night, Rubypaw joined her patrol and went to stand in between her mother and Pearlpaw. Hazelstar yowled "RiverClan will not steal from us anymore once we prove to them that this territory is ours!" Excited yowls came from the patrols as they raced out of camp. They passed over the RiverClan border and quieted down. They had a secret. They had ShadowClan and WindClan on their side, so they would have a huge advantage. Hazelstar met up with Morningstar of WindClan and Brackenstar of ShadowClan. The three united clans split into two groups, one to go to ThunderClan and one to go to RiverClan. Hazelstar's patrol was heading to RiverClan, along with Morningstar's and Sunflare's. Rubypaw left her mother and sister and went to stand beside Foxheart. She leaped into the camp and started slashing as a sleepy RiverClan apprentice. She smelled the scents of RiverClan, SnowClan, ShadowClan, and WindClan. She grappled with him, and sent her claws scoring down his chest. The tom tried to flee, but she caught him, She was about to sink her teeth into his throat when Foxheart pulled her off and growled "Warriors don't need to kill to win battles." Then she heard Foxheart yowl, and Rubypaw turned to see three RiverClan warriors attack her. Rubypaw sank her fangs into the nearest cat's scruff and hauled him off. She recognized him as Coldtail. Without thinking, she sliced at his chest, and his blood splattered her pelt. Then she saw Creamfur and Forestfur standing over a ginger she-cat. Rubypaw recognized the body of her mentor, Foxheart.
