Chapter Four
“Back in black! I hit the-” Dean shuts the alarm off.
“Rise ‘n’ shine, Sammy!” Dean hollers happily.
Sam groans and sits up, rubbing his eyes. When he moves his hands, he sees Castiel staring at Dean.
“Hey, uh- Cas,”
“Yes, Sam?” Castiel looks at Sam.
“Will you go to the supermarket with me? We’ll go get the newspaper and maybe something to eat.”
“And pie,” Dean adds.
“Sure, Dean,” Sam says.
“Castiel, I’m fine with you loving Dean. But I don’t know if Dean would be. I think you need to make it less obvious,” Sam says, grabbing a container of cherry pie.
“No. He needs to remember. Don’t you dare tell me to stop,” Castiel stares at Sam.
“Why? You don’t think I know how you feel? Everyone I have every loved has died. Even Dean has died,” Sam says, frustrated.
“At least you know they loved you!” Castiel yells.
“Lower your voice. We’ll get kicked out if you don’t.”
“I’m going to wait outside.”
“Alright.”
“Here, Dean,” Castiel hands the newspaper to him.
Dean unfolds the newspaper and looks through it.
“Uh, well, there’s a murder in the middle of the woods. It’s in line with the lunar cycle.”
“You thinkin’ werewolf?” Sam asks.
“Yeah, how about we go to the morgue and see if the heart’s missing.
“How about I go and you and Cas can go talk to the family,” Sam says.
Dean nods and goes to get his suit from his bag on the floor that has clothes spilling out of it.
Dean looks at Castiel. “Lose the trench coat,” Dean commands.
Castiel removes the coat and throws it on Dean’s bed. Dean goes up to Castiel and buttons the top to buttons and got a black tie from his bag and put it on Castiel. Castiel smiles a little because of how close Dean was. Castiel stared into his green eyes.
“I’m going to get dressed, then we’ll leave,” Dean says. “You too, Sam. I have to drop you off.”
“Hello, ma’am. We’re with the FBI, I’m agent Lee, and this is my partner, agent Johnson. Can we talk with you about your husband, Mr. Evans?” Dean said. He’s gone through this thousands of times. Castiel just stood there; he wasn’t sure what to do. All he knows is that Mr. Evans is the guy that was killed.
“I already answered questions for the police, though,” she said.
“Yes, and I’m sorry to bother you but your husband’s murder has become something too big for the local police department to handle,” Dean said.
“Okay,” She said hesitantly. “Come in…” She opened the door wide for the boys to come in.
“Now, did your husband have any enemies? Anyone that might want to hurt him?” Dean asked, sitting on the couch next to Castiel.
She shakes her head. “He was a saint,”
The continued their conversation while Sam was at the morgue. After Dean and Castiel left, they picked up Sam from the police department.
“The heart was there,” Sam said.
“So it wasn’t a werewolf,” Dean said, stating the obvious.
“But,” Sam started, “there were fang marks in the neck.”
“Was it a vampire?” Castiel asks.
“Looked that way,” Sam said. “Did you find anything from the wife?”
“Nothing,” Dean says, “No enemies, no chance of an affair, no acting strange.”
“So him getting bitten wasn’t personal,” Sam adds.
“Do you think there’s a nest or just a few stragglers?” Dean asks.
“I don’t know, but we should check it out tonight.”
“I thought that they were active at night so you always want to go during the day?” Castiel asks, confused.
“He’s right,” Dean says to Sam.
Castiel smiles proudly at himself.
“Nice catch, Cas,” Dean says.
“I’m going back to the motel to change then we can go look around where he was murdered,” Dean says.
