Chapter Five
“I can’t believe we found nothing,” Dean says, taking a sip of beer.
“I could’ve sworn it was a vamp bite,” Sam says.
“Well, you must’ve screwed up,” Dean says.
“Maybe we just didn’t see anything.”
“Sam,” Castiel interrupts, “Do you mind if I talk to Dean alone for a moment?”
“Sure,” Sam says, and stands, leaving.
After the door shut, Castiel stared deeply into Dean’s eyes.
“Dude, we’ve talked about this,” Dean says, “Personal space.”
“Do you remember me?” Castiel asks in a deep, serious voice.
“Remember what?”
“Me.”
“Remember you from what?”
“Before you came back to Earth but after I raised you from perdition.”
“No. I didn’t even know there was any time between there.”
Castiel sighs.
“What’s up with you, Cas?”
‘Why don’t you remember,” Castiel mumbles under his breath.
“Cas, just talk to me,”
“You- I don’t know how to tell you.”
“Just say it.”
“We were in love… During that time.”
“What?” Dean laughs. “You’re joking, right…?”
Castiel shakes his head. “No. We were in love. When you went back to Earth and left Heaven, we were in love. But when you came back to the surface, you forgot all about me.”
Castiel hugs Dean, “Please… Think as hard as you can.” Castiel lowers his voice, “Please remember me…”
“I can’t,” Dean whispers. He doesn’t hug him back.
“Why not?” Castiel asks, pulling back from the hug Dean obviously wasn’t enjoying.
“Castiel, why are you crying?” Dean asks.
“Because I’m sad…”
Dean wipes a tear off of Castiel’s cheek. “I never said I wasn’t in love with you… I just said that I didn’t remember… And I don’t. Will you tell me about it?” Dean asks, smiling a little.
“You love me…?” Castiel asks.
Dean nods, “I-I think I do.”
Castiel hugs Dean again, and this time Dean hugs back tightly.
“You don’t know how long I’ve wanted to do this,” Castiel whispers into Dean’s ear.
Castiel pulls back from the hug and stares at Dean.
“Is something wrong?” Dean asks.
“No, you’re just too gorgeous not to look at.”
Dean looked down at Castiel’s lips for a moment then looked back up to his eyes.
“Castiel,” Dean said to get his attention.
“Yes, Dean?”
“Will you tell me about the time in-between Hell and Earth?” Dean asks.
“Will you at lie down with me?” Castiel asks.
Dean nods and smiles, lying down on his bed. Castiel walks over to Dean’s bed and lies down next to him, facing him. Dean sets his hand on Castiel’s shoulder, pulling Castiel closer to his body.
“After I raised you from perdition,” Castiel started, “the rest of the angels and I had to rebuild you.”
“How long did that take?” Dean asked.
“About a year,” Castiel answered. “Then I decided that I wanted you to stay with me for a little while. So you did for about 6 months. And we fell in love. But, soon after that, the angels thought it would be best to get you back to Earth, and I was fine with it, as long as I could watch you.”
“Like my guardian angel?” Dean asks.
“Yes. Eventually, I had to see you, so I went and met you. But you didn’t remember me… I saw it in your eyes… You didn’t.”
Dean hugs Castiel. “I’m so sorry, Cas.”
Castiel looks up at Dean, his face was on his chest.
“What?” Dean asks.
“Where did Sam go?” Castiel whispered.
“I don’t know,” Dean said.
“Should we worry?” Castiel whispers.
“I’m sure he found something to do. Let’s just sleep.”
“I’m an angel of The Lord. I don’t sleep.”
“Well, I’m a hunter, neither do I,” Dean smiles.
Dean and Castiel both turn to face the door when they hear a knock. “Sh,” Dean shushes Castiel. Dean grabs his handgun and walks to the door, opening it. It was Sam.
“Hey,” Sam said.
“I thought you were going to leave for a while,” Dean said.
“Yeah,” Sam breathes heavily, “about that…” Sam stared.
“What?” Dean asked.
“A police officer saw me and he recognized me. We gotta go.”
“C’mon, Cas. Get up.”
Castiel stands up and rubs his face.
Dean starts shoving his clothes into his bag and zippers it shut. “Let’s go,” Dean says, throwing the bag over his shoulder.
Castiel starts walking toward the door, and opens it, going over to the Impala and waits for the Winchester’s.
Sam and Dean walked out the door to the Impala. Dean got in the driver seat and Sam got in the passenger seat.
“Actually, Sam,” Castiel started, “Maybe I could sit in the front.
Sam sighs. “Fine. But hurry up,” Sam says, getting in the back seat.
“Thank you, Sam,” Castiel says, sitting in the passenger seat.
“Dean, go,” Sam commanded.
Dean steps on the gas pedal, throwing Sam backwards into the back-rest. “Damn, Dean,” Sam said.
“You said go,” Dean replied sassily.
Castiel set his hand gently on Dean’s lower thigh. Sam noticed.
Dean pushed Castiel’s hand away, nervous that Sam would see and wouldn’t approve.
“Dean,” Castiel said, “he knows. I told him before I told you.” Castiel put his hand back where it was.
Dean looks back at Sam. “You knew? And you didn’t tell me?”
“Hey, man, look, I made a promise,” Sam said.
Dean focused on driving for a few miles before pulling off an exit that lead to a small hotel that they checked into. They got one room even though Castiel insisted on two.
