Chapter 9

"Don't touch me!" he growled, his hand gripping on the steering wheel. "I'm ok, drop it!"

I puckered my forehead, before I shifted my gaze to the road. "Stop saying you are ok. Please..." I clutched my fists, being almost on the verge of crying.

"Please. It's my fault." I begged. Kid narrowed his eyes, his tension decreasing but still steadily remaining.

"Why are you so persistent?" He bitterly questioned.

"Cause...I regret a lot of things. The first one being a coward and running away from problems. Not helping. Being weak. I want to at least fix something I caused."

"Fine." I glanced at him with cow eyes, before I mildly smiled.

"Thank you. Oh and..." I remembered something. "We'll have to stop at the pharmacy for some bandages and lotion, maybe also for..."

"Are you stupid? We have everything at the mansion you moron. Did you forget I own more than enough emergencies. Dammit, I already regret what I said. I'm just gonna take back..."

"Nope! You said it. No take-backs!" I chimed.

"..."

"Where are we going?" I implored, getting a bit nervous.

"To my room." He nonchalantly answered as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.

"Oh."

"Get in."

His bedroom was enormous, to say at least, but dark, only a feeble light radiated on the desk that was filled with stacks of paper. The interior was minor, only the wardrobe in the corner hovered the space. It seemed like nobody was using this space for ages, let alone sleep in it.

"Hey Y/n, if you really want to be of some kind of use come here." Kid alleged. I slowly turned around, feeling satisfied with the collection of tools I was going to use on his wound. But when I faced him, he just tilted his head a bit and without any trace of mockery, I hoped, said: "You'll have to unbutton my shirt." He jested.

"O-o-ok." I sheepishly stuttered before I approached him, the menacing aura reaching me.

My hands were shaky at first, but then I just tried to compose myself...and it kinda worked. Until I sucked in a sharp breath as his shirtless torso was exposed to me. Even tho I saw it before, his chiseled chest and the skin on it was glowing and made me gulp. His abdominals were sculptured to perfection, the same went for his six-packs.

"What's wrong? You're slow." Was he messing with me or was he really worried? Then I saw a lot more blood. A lot. Maybe that's way he was concerned.

"Dot freak out, jeez. It's just a laceration."

"It was a bad idea. I don't think I will be able to properly treat it." I indecisively confirmed.

"Backing away, already, little mousy?" He grinned and with an index finger indicated to sit beside him.

"You're not leaving, are you?" obviously challenging me with that damn smirk.

"Fine..." I silently murmured, internally cursing myself for being a... well an eager person.

So, when I sat down, my palms started to sweat. The distance between us was so small, I could feel his warmth radiating from his body.

"Please tell me if that hurts you." I babbled while examining the wrapping.

"This is just a measly cut, don' t overreact."

I soaked a wet towel into water and removed all the blood and dirt.

He was steadily boring his glare at me and correcting me. "You need to use direct pressure."

I did as he said and pushed the towel more to his skin's surface.

He didn't even flinch. While I was wrapping it, Kid calmly stared into the blank wall, humming something to himself.

"It's done!" I said braggingly.

"I can't believe you've actually did it." The redhead joked on the behalf of my 'nursing skills'.

And in that moment, my stomach growled, quite loudly demanding food.

"I bet 10 000 Beli that you won't make it to the door before passing out of starvation. You didn't eat anything." He had furrowed his eyebrows, before he tilted me to follow him. "Come."

"Where to?" I asked anxiously, folding my arms on the chest.

"Impatient, huh?" He mocked, while he was waltzing across the hallway, leading me to the already familiar kitchen.

"Sit down." he demanded. I obediently followed his order, not really being able to comprehend what was happening due to my enormous hunger. Kid swiftly grabbed some bread and added a couple of things in it.

I observed him in secrecy while he wasn't facing me. I was frankly bewildered by the way how things ended up.

He clearly isn't so brute...

"Done." He murmured.

The result was astonishing. I grinned at the foot-long sandwich, where I was frankly just drooling over it.

"It looks just like a Scooby-doo sandwich." I quirked.

"Scooby-what? What the hell is that?" He furrowed his eyebrows.

I arched a brow at him. "Seriously? Everyone knows him!" I chimed in my seat.

"Whatever." He told me of, rubbing a hand over his dark stubble.

I carefully brought the pure deliciousness to my mouth and took the first bite. "I didn't know you were able to prepare something." I hummed in approval.

"It's a good thing I didn't ask for your opinion."

"Well, it's...decent," strangely, my face felt a little bit hot, while I was trying to piss him off and munch on my snack at the same time.

"Yeah, that' s way you gulped two sandwiches in less than 5 seconds. You pig."

"That hurt." But still continued nonchalantly eating my meal.

"Ugghh..." I suddenly grabbed my head from the vigorous pain.

"What's wrong?" Kid stood straighter.

"Nothing, it's ok.... I'm just...tired."

I got a bit dizzy...

"Bastards. If this happens...no... If they dare to mess again..."

"That won't happen." I chuckled. "You marked your territory so hard, they will be probably too scared to even look at me." My smile again faded, when the pain aroused.

Before I could collapse, he held my back with his hands and lifted me into his arms, carrying me bridal style.

"Shit, you are cold."

"I can...walk...by...myself..." I stuttered between my speech, pain denying me further communication.

"Don't argue with me." He threatened, raising his voice a bit.

"Please...let me go...I don't want to be an obligation to someone who just wants money. I hate...that." I mumbled, but still standing behind my words.

"No. Now shut up."

His breath tickled my neck area, as I was lightly bouncing in his hold. The door flew widely open when he forcefully used his foot.

Kid, with the the unfamiliar gentelness, laid me on the bed.

"You're sleeping on the floor?" I curiously asked.

"Of course not, idiot!"

"Then I'll just go to my room, I ..." I was just about to leave the cozy bed when Kid pushed me into the pillows and hissed in his intimidating voice to just stop resisting.

"W-w-hat are you doing?" I stuttered, when he was in the process of covering himself with the blanket.

"Sleeping. If it isn't enough obvious to you."

How could I go to sleep if he was so close to me? I abruptly shut my eyes, but neverless I was still able to smell the faint fragrance radiating from the sheets.

I shuddered.

"You're still cold, huh?" He grunted, a trace of worry creeping to the tone of speaking.

"No, I'm not." I stuttered, trying to remain idiomatic.

"Stubborn little mousy..." He purred, suddenly his focus directed to something else. Kid reached to me by stroking my hair.

"Hey Kid?"

Silence.

"Look, I know we're kinda stuck together, but I don't really won't to fight with someone who'll help me get my dad back. We are both against Doflamingo." I managed to continue with my inarticulate speech.

Silence.

"All I'm trying to say is...that...ah...you could just not talk to me...that will work too."

Silence.

After that I gradually given up and my eyelids were becoming heavier. But before I could fall completely to sleep, something rustled behind me.

"Don't move." He silently whispered into my ear, sending chills down my spine. I felt strong arms hugging my hips and pulling me towards the large chest. My heart was now beating so fast I thought it would just explode from the tension. I wasn't able to move as I was caught up in the moment, thoughts widely dashing through my mind. Even the blush that crept to my cheeks didn't help to cease the uncontrollable tension.

"Idiot." the short melodical laughter filled the space between us. "Don't be so tense. Relax! I want to sleep."

"O-o-o-k..." I stuttered, when something warm pecked the top of my head.

Now I'm 100% certain- My heart is going to explode.
