NINE

Unfortunately, the library was further away than the bar and we like idiots, decided to take a long walk there anyway. Sebastian was already whining that his legs hurt and Rosaline had jumped on Michel's back who, surprisingly, carried her without complaint. I was going to have to ask the details behind that later. Noah chose to walk by my side and I realized we hadn't really had the chance to talk properly since our kiss, which felt like a lifetime ago.

"I feel like I haven't had a chance to talk to you with all this mess," I said as we walked side by side. For some reason we weren't holding hands.

"Well its certainly kept us busy," he said.

"How are you holding up," I asked and he just shrugged. I suppose for all his maturity and strength, we were all struggling a bit right now.

"Could be better," he replied. Silence blanketed us as we walked. It wasn't comfortable. A question arose in my mind, one I'd been meaning to ask for a while.

"Noah, do you believe me? About Alia?" He was completely silent, no doubt scrambling his head for an appropriate answer.

"I won't deny that it's a little hard to believe." Oh god he thought I was insane. Of all people, I'd expected him to believe me. For Zahra and Rosaline, the loss had been too hard for them to even open themselves up to the idea that she was alive. He had no such struggle. All he had to do was trust me.

"You don't believe me." My voice came out broken and his head snapped up in alarm.

"Davina please don't be upset," he begged. How could I not be upset? He really didn't believe me.

"I'm telling the truth Noah," I yelled, loud enough for Zahra to briefly glance back and give me the look. I just looked away. This was our problem.

"Look Davina, you'd fainted. Shouldn't we at least give some credit to the possibility that you hallucinated the whole thing?" He sounded so mature and smart, and it made me feel more inferior than I should as his girlfriend. Noah hadn't been there when I'd been attacked. Why couldn't he take my word for what had happened?

"She's alive Noah. She saved me," I tried one last time. I wasn't getting through to him. Common sense ruled his mind and I wouldn't be surprise if he didn't even believe in vampires at this point.

"Look I know it's hard to get over a friend's death, even harder when she died like this," he started. I was going to actually slap him now. Was he analyzing my psychological state at this point? At this rate, he'd get me admitted at a hospital soon enough.

"Just shut up Noah," I snapped. He looked like a wounded puppy but I couldn't care less. I was mad, furious even. God I just wanted to punch his perfect face.

"Davina we saw the police take her body away. Sebastian and I even stuck around to see them take-."

"Guys we're here," Sebastian called out from the front of the pack. The library loomed ahead of us, looking more like a haunted house out of nightmares. This place didn't look like it could give us answers. It looked like it was going to give us more problems and I wasn't really in short supply right now. Nevertheless, we followed Sebastian inside the hall of doom. I was surprised bats didn't fly out as the front door opened with a loud creek.

Inside, it was a normal library, save the lighting problem. Lamps covered the walls giving the hall an eerie glow. It could have been cozy if we didn't know that the island was infested with vampires. Unfortunately, now, all I looked for automatically was whether any vampires lurked in darkest corners of library. Thankfully, the receptionist was human and the only one here. She waved us over to the selection of books without a word, clearly not interested.

"Damn from the outside it looked much bigger," Sebastian said. Sure enough, the place only had 12 rows of bookshelves that were barely higher than my head.

"Okay each of us can take two columns. Find all the books about vampires, this island, anything that can help us," Noah ordered. Sebastian laughed and gave him a mock salute.

"Aye Aye captain," Noah shot him a heated glare, clearly on edge after the argument we'd had outside, before making his way to his rows.

"Sebastian not the time," I told him softly. He immediately understood and apologized quietly before heading off to his rows.

I disappeared into the two rows Noah and pointed out to me and fished out my phone to begin reading the titles. Thanks to the dim lighting, even with my phone flashlight, some of the prints were hard to read. There were quite a few books on vampires and to no one's surprise; we didn't find any book about this island in particular. Either humans didn't know about it or those books never made it here. Still, whatever information we found would have to do.

Most of the books stated the same thing and after awhile, I could practically recite them. Vampires were the undead, they were cursed, they couldn't walk in daylight, they could die by being pierced by a wooden stake or being beheaded and their diet was blood. Everything the movies always described down to a tee. Hopefully these stories would hold true in real life or we'd definitely have a problem on our hands. I went down my column again, climbing on the stepladder to access the topmost shelf. That's when it struck me, how morose and silent the atmosphere seemed. Normally, this group never really stopped talking but now even Sebastian seemed to have sobered up. It was depressing to say the least. Deciding to lighten the mood just a bit, I readied myself to jump into the next row to scare the hell out of Sebastian.

But when I jumped out, there was no one there. The entire row was empty and so was the next. Instantly, I held the book in my hand a bit more tightly, not that it could do any damage. He'd been here just seconds ago. Slowly walking down the column, heart racing in my chest, I came to the open area we'd originally stood in. They were all standing there, gawking at the figure seated on the couch. She only had eyes for me.

"Alia," I breathed out as the figure stood up. She was alive. I hadn't imagined that moment in the alcove. Despite all this, I hadn't lost my mind just yet. She was really here.

"Davina," she said with that soft voice and before I could register it, she had me wrapped in a hug with her vampire super speed. She seemed stronger now, not just physically. That timid shy girl she'd been before had changed now that she'd become a vampire. It was still her, but different at the same time, like she'd grown up.

"Alia how," I managed to ask as I released her. No evidence of the wound in her stomach and her neck, like how I'd seen her on that night. She seemed to have grown taller though, standing just short of my height. But the smile and the kindness in her eyes she always had still existed. Not even death could take that away from her.

"He turned me after I died. I came to save you at the bar. I was so scared I was too late," she said with tears in her eyes as her hands caressed my face softly like she was seeing me for the first time. I pulled her in for another hug. This was too incredible to be real. I was never going to let her go.

"I'm fine. We're both fine. You've got a story to tell though," I whispered into her hair. For a second, I didn't think she'd reply with her head buried into my hair. She had that stillness about her that all the vampires did. It was unsettling but I could get used to it.

"He told me not to say much. He just told me to protect you," she said cautiously. Who was this man that had saved her? I needed to find him and fall to his feet out of gratefulness for returning my baby to me. But I also had questions, why he wanted to protect me.

"Who is he," I asked first. Her eyes widened in what looked like genuine fear as she rapidly shook her head back and forth. Did I do something wrong?

"My sire," she finally whispered. I knew that much. The terms had crept up in one of the books.

"What's his name," I pressed. She slipped out of my grasp and backed away.

"I can't tell you. You have to trust me Davina. Please trust me," she begged. I'd once asked the same of Noah and the sting of his rejection still existed. No way I'd do the same to her.

"Of course. So do the others, right," I asked sharply. They were all still in shock. Zahra looked like she'd seen a ghost as she took a cautious step towards both of us. Her eyes were focused on Alia though.

"You're not dead," she whispered. I'd never heard Zahra sound that vulnerable before. There were tears sliding down her face as she stood toe to toe with vampire Alia and in her face, I could see the pure love and adoration she'd always hidden from me.

"Not anymore. Though my heart is not," Alia started. Before she could finish, Zahra had her wrapped in her arms, lips pressed against hers in a desperate kiss. Alia didn't push her away. Instead she wrapped her arms around the taller girl and pulled her closer. Thank god it had finally happened. Both girls were crying as they drew back, looking into each other's eyes with so much affection I had to look away. Alia drew away from Zahra to pull Rose into an embrace who was trying her hardest to keep it together but was failing miserably.

"Excuse me for breaking up this reunion ladies but with or without Alia, we're still in danger," Sebastian said as he came to stand at my side. He might not say it, but I could see how happy he was that Alia had returned.

"I will protect you," Alia said, vowed more like. As much as I wanted to believe that was enough, I knew it wasn't. She was a newborn and the books had stated that newborns weren't fully in control despite their superior strength. Besides, I didn't want to put her in danger. Alia could, however, give us the answers we needed.

"What's going on Alia? What's going to happen at the hotel," I asked. I could tell from the fear in her eyes that it was ten times worse than whatever I'd had nightmares about for a while now. Sebastian gripped my hand in support.

"Full moon is in a week," she said ominously. Wasn't full moon something that affected werewolves? Please don't tell me there were werewolves on this island.

"Yeah so," Zahra asked.

"A week to full moon, a vampire's thirst is heightened then and they lack control. On full moon day itself, they don't just feed, they kill and the hotel will be a slaughterhouse," she explained. Slaughterhouse. As if it wasn't already one now.

"Holy crap," Sebastian said with wide eyes. That pretty much summed it up. These stakes were way too high for my mind to ever grasp at this point.

"I will protect you for as long as I can but I will lose control soon enough since I'm a newborn," Alia warned. According to the books, if vampires were anything like werewolves, she had 2 days maximum before she felt the urge to rip out our throats. Hopefully, we could do something before then like get off this island for starters. I didn't want to think of whether or not Alia would be coming with us.

"We need to get off this island," Zahra said with increased urgency. We had two days before we lost all protection and seven before we lost our lives. I could already feel the noose tightening around my neck. Breath. I couldn't have a panic attack already.

"Tomorrow we check out the airport. That's our only shot," Noah declared firmly. The rest of us expressed our approval before following Noah out of the library. About ten minutes away from the hotel, Alia shot us a mock salute before racing off into the woods to goodness knows where. The rest of us made our way to the rooms, ready to crash, but sleep didn't come easy as the countdown to full moon started up in our heads. 6 days starting tomorrow.
