Chapter Four

You woke up, your pillow stained with tears. Your eyes were puffy and red from all the crying. You still felt like you were going to cry. You sat up, your knees by your chest. You wrapped your arms around them and rested your head on your knees, crying quietly to not wake anyone. You hated it here. You weren't even here for more than 24 hours and you already hated it. You heard movement outside the door. That's when you decided that it was safe to actually sobbed. You hugged your pillow while sobbing into it. You stayed like that for what felt like forever until Newt came in.

"Come on Greenie, it's time to start your first official day at the Glade." Newt said, looking slightly shocked at you. Maybe no one actually heard your sobs from outside, maybe you weren't loud enough. Before he could say anything though, you stood up, wiping your face. You motioned for Newt to lead the way, not speaking. Once you were both outside Newt led you back to Frypan, who gave you a sandwich and water. It's all you ate here. Newt led back to the wall where you ate yesterday. You sat down, Newt sitting next to you. Nothing was said as you ate, you could hear some people working, talking.

"I'm guessing you want to know about the incidents that happened yesterday." You said as you took another bite from your sandwich. Newt just looked at you. You took this as a signal to continue.

"I was telling you and Thomas about my memory, and then there was this sudden pain in my head. There was a voice... a woman. She said something to me. She said, these were her exact words, You have a power [Y/N], use it. Wicked is good. I didn't know what she meant about power, and then Thomas was telling me that the pain couldn't be THAT bad, and I wanted him to suffer too. I looked into his eyes, wishing he could feel what I felt, and he started screaming too. But when he started screaming, the pain eased on me, like the woman was proud I used my 'power', then the pain was gone, like it never happened and Thomas stopped screaming." You explained. Newt looked surprised at you, he didn't really expect you to tell him the whole story, he expected some resistance but you were different. You trusted Newt for a reason you didn't even know. He seemed to know what he was doing, and he didn't seem evil.

"Shuck it. That's never been done before." Newt said to himself more than to you. You started shaking. You were scared, scared of the consequences that would happen to you for harming another glader.

"What's going to happen to me now?" You asked as you drank your water.

"What do you mean?" Newt asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I broke a rule. I harmed another glader." You said as you hugged your knees.

"Nothing. This won't be mentioned to anyone." Newt said, his voice sounding serious. This calmed you down and before you knew it, you hugged him. He was protecting you and you didn't really know how to thank him. You felt him tense at the sudden contact but he soon hugged back

"Thank you so much." You hiccuped, holding back tears.

"Anytime Greenbean." Newt smirked. You let go and glared at him.

"It's [Y/N], not Greenie or Greenbean." You said.

"Alright Greenbean." Newt said again. He chuckled as you glared at him again. He stood up, offering a hand to you. You took it and Newt pulled you up. He started walking, you following.

"Where are we going?" You asked, looking around. The gladers gave you funny looks still. Some of them whispered to each other and then laughed. The feelings were unnerving. You wondered what everyone would think if they knew of your power. Gaining access to memories, gaining access to share pain. You wondered if you could share someones else's pain. For example, if Newt hurt himself, would you be able to pass that pain onto Thomas? Did you have that power? You could obviously share anyones memories, because once you saw the memory, they'd be a part of your memories in some way. You shuddered when you remembered Newt's memory. He noticed again.

"Is something wrong?" Newt asked. You gave him a strange look.

"I'm living in some box thing called The Glade, which is in a maze, filled with boys and another girl who isn't even awake. I think that a lot of things are wrong." You said, smiling at yourself and all your sass.

"You know what I mean." Newt said as he rolled your eyes.

"Yeah. It's just... being with all these boys its scares me slightly." You said, It wasn't a lie, you were scared. The looks some boys gave you creeped you out. Newt gave you a sympathetic look as he carried on walking. He stopped and turned slightly.

"This is the Bloodhouse." Newt said. You saw all the blood and felt sick. You had to struggle to keep your food down. You stepped back and Newt gave you a funny look.

"Are all girls like this?" He asked himself more than he asked you. You picked up a rock and threw it at him. He caught it and smirked at you. Newt led you away from the Slaughterhouse. On the way to who knows where Newt called over another Glader. He was the youngest out of everyone. You didn't really listen to what Newt was saying, but you heard the name Chuck. Newt and Chuck seemed to have been talking about arriving in the elebox because you looked Chuck in the eyes and a flash of a memory came. You were in the box again, but you were scared. You looked away and shivered. Newt caught on again and asked.

"What's wrong?" He asked. You were about to lie, saying it's nothing but he wasn't going to believe it.

"Don't lie to me Greenie." Newt said. Chuck took this as a sign to leave.

"See you around [Y/N]." Chuck said as he waved. You smiled and waved back. Finally, someone called you by your name.

"I..." You started, pausing to find the right words to use.

"You what?" Newt asked impatiently. You were about to answer when you both saw Teresa running from the dodgy looking building to another dodgy looking building. This one didn't seem to have a roof. Once Teresa reached the top, a few other gladers were at the bottom. Thta's when she started throwing rocks at them. You took this to your advantage and ran towards the building/thing. You ran up the stairs and helped Teresa. She seemed to recognize you somewhat, but nothing was said as you carried on throwing items at the gladers down below.
