Chapter Five
A/N
I am a terrible person, I haven't updated this in over a year and I feel so bad and I have totally forgotten how the film and the book goes like I know the main concept and shit and I am sooOoOooOo sorry so I'm just gonna go with it I guess oops, please don't hate meeeee.
As you both finished throwing things at the Gladers, mainly because you had run out of things to throw at this point and most of them had left by now because they didn't want to get abused anymore, you shared a look before giving her a small smile and starting a conversation.
"I'm [Y/N], and this is the Glade. We all ended up here with no memory at all, one person each month except for you and me, we arrived a day after Thomas and we arrived together." You said in a calm manner, knowing that she would have questions that she needed answering and knowing that no one else would answer her as well as she needed because no one really answered you as well as you needed and you didn't like it.
"My names Teresa."
"I know. I remember you, and I remember Thomas."
"But you said no one remembers anything." Teresa was getting on edge slightly and you knew you shouldn't've mentioned anything but it was too late, so you did the one thing you were good at. Walking away. Teresa followed you and you headed straight passed Newt, who wasn't happy with you from earlier before, since you didn't answer his question, and he wasn't going to let you walk away from him either. He grabbed your arm and stopped you from moving, which annoyed you and you weren't afraid to show it anymore because it was one of the emotions that you felt a lot.
"What are you hiding from me?" Newt asked, curiosity clear in his eyes, and you didn't know if you would tell him now or not because even though you wanted to, you knew he would look at you differently and might avoid you in general and you would be stuck alone with no one in the Glade and that thought made you uncomfortable.
"I've told you so much already and I haven't been here long, can't you let me keep a few things to myself just like everyone is keeping something from someone, just like how you're keeping things from me?" You questioned and you knew he would start thinking about that memory that you had once spotted and you wanted to not see it, you wanted to ignore it but you were too late to act upon it, because soon the whole thing came crashing down in your mind, the vines, the maze, the fall and the loud crack. You felt a pain in your leg and you tried hard to not wince or to show any sign that you were uncomfortable before pulling your arm out of Newt's grasp and walking away, heading towards one of the entrances and sitting down, looking out at the maze while losing yourself in thought.
After sitting there for who knows how long someone sat next to you, and part of you hoped that it was Newt, and you were slightly disappointed that it wasn't.
"He's worried about you." Thomas broke the silence between the two of you after a few moments.
"He shouldn't be, I'm fine." You muttered as you looked around, noticing that there were torches lit everywhere and it would soon be dark, and the maze would soon close.
"Are you though?"
You ignored his question and asked your own. "What would happen if I were to run out into the maze right now?" A look of panic washed over his face as he looked at you, hoping you weren't being serious about that.
"What?"
"What were to happen... if I did this?" You got up and sprinted towards the entrance, Thomas screaming at you from behind and running after you. You noticed that the walls were slowly closing which caused you to sprint fast until you actually reached the maze, anyone could have still run in after you but there wouldn't have been enough time to run out again and you were not leaving the maze willingly. You looked back and noticed that almost everyone was by the entrance looking at you and shouting for you to run, Newt had a look of anger, annoyance and worry and you didn't know what would happen if you made it out of here alive. Teresa pushed through the crowd of people and threw something through the walls at you, which you caught and before you could question what it was or why she gave it to you, the walls had shut and you were stuck in the maze with no going back. You examined the bag and noticed that it was the bag you and Teresa had arrived with in the elebox, and you also noticed that it had a few syringes in it that held blue liquid, which caused a shiver to run down your spine, and it also contained a knife of some sort that you were thankful for.
"Well done [Y/N], now you're stuck in a maze all on your own with no way out and possibly death around every corner." You scoffed as you slowly started to walk around, leaving little arrows in the walls with the knife so you could find your way back and not get lost and die. Part of you was sure you would survive and you didn't know why but you put all your faith in it so you wouldn't over think and annoy yourself. You felt a wave of deja vu but you didn't know why, but the one thing you did know was something was coming and that you needed to hide... fast. You decided to climb up the vines, only going about half way before hiding in them, trying to control your breathing. That's when the walls started to move and the thought had hit you. The maze changes every night, and you might be stuck here for who knows how long until you were able to get to the exit. Once the walls stopped moving you looked around and thought it was safe to move, that was before you saw the Griever walk around the corner and towards you, stopping underneath you and looking around.. and then it started climbing up the wall. You took deep breathes as it came closer to you before using the wall to push yourself, jumping over the monster and landing on the other side, sliding down on the vines and hissing in pain as you were sure that you would have rope burns, before sprinting down the alleyways that the maze had offered you, not letting yourself stop for a minute because then you knew you would die. The sweat was dripping from your forehead, the bag was slung around your shoulders and kept hitting you and it was getting harder to breathe, the cold air was the only thing offering you comfort at a time like this. Your hand flew up to your forehead to try and wipe the sweat away but it didn't seem to work because more seemed to drip down, causing you to get annoyed once again. The Griever was catching up to you and there was not much you could do besides squeeze through the small spaces and gain more time, prolonging your inevitable death that would soon approach you, that was before you saw a wall half way through closing up ahead. You lunged through it, hearing the Griever hitting the walls as it tried to get through after you and you thought you were actually going to get squashed before you stepped out just as it closed, unfortunately, though, the Griever had pricked you and you knew that that was a bad sign. You slid down the wall, your breathes heavy and fast as you looked at your arm where you had been stung and you felt tears in your eyes, yet you weren't scared, because you felt like you knew you were going to survive even though no one had heard of it before and you weren't going to be an exception. You prayed that the wall you were at wouldn't move anymore as you hide under it, the vines covering you. Your hand reached for the little zipper on the bag as you slowly pulled on it, opening the bag up and grabbing the syringe, fumbling with it before feeling a strong urge to stab it in you, so that's exactly what you did, and the things that happened afterwards were not to your liking.
