The restaurant was huge; at one side there was a bar where several people sat on stools with high tables scattered about. On the other side were tables and chairs with couples and friends dining. There was a large open space which Martin assumed was a dance floor, and beyond that was a piano and a drum kit with a few amplifiers, but no musicians.
Martin walked up to the bar and saw a lady behind it.
The lady looked young, Martin estimated that she was in her mid-twenties. He cleared his throat and tried to make a decent first impression.
"Oh Bonjour Monsieur!" Greeted the lady, facing him, and fluttering her long black eyelashes.
"B-bourjour Madame.." he replied, awkwardly.
"You're english?" Asked the lady, her accent completely changing,
"Yes." He replied, smiling, "You?"
"I was born in England, yes." She replied, smiling at him, her hair was curly and black and it was tied behind her head as she gazed into his eyes.
"Cool- what part of England are you from?" He asked her,
"Just south of Nottingham." She said,
"Oh nice- I lived in Nottingham for a while." He told her, this was a lie, but he knew the area quite well.
"Where do you live now?" She asked him,
"Swansea." He told her, "I take it you live here."
"I moved here when I was sixteen after I finished my GCSEs, this is my uncle's place." She said, "you on holiday?"
"Eh- sort of. I'm on a band tour- I'm the manager.. just going around Europe."
"What kind of band?" She asked, filling up a pint for someone else and offering him one, which he accepted.
"They're a very diverse band, mixture of blues, jazz, often some rock or pop- they're good."
"Well of course you'd say that." She giggled,
"I was also their music teacher so.. I make sure of it." He laughed, catching her eye and making her blush.
"Are you asking me to let them play here tonight? Is this what this is?" She asked him, narrowing her eyes and laughing,
"A little bit, Yeah." He chuckled, sipping the beer, "I promise I won't let you down."
"Hmm.. maybe." She flirted, walking to the other side of the counter and sitting on the stool beside him.
"How much do you want?" He asked her, taking out his wallet.
"Oh I don't want your money." She told him,
"Then w-"
The lady pulled on his tie making him jolt foreword until their lips met. Martin pulled away slightly in shock before she smiled at him and wrapped an arm around his neck and pulled him back in.
"Is that a yes?" Asked Martin, smirking but dreading going back outside to see the band as he knew that they had seen him.
"Yes it is." She told him, playing with his tie and flirting.
"I'll be right back." He told her but she yanked his tie back again.
"I- I forgot, we have a specific music period- it starts at half seven, ends at midnight.. you okay waiting for twenty minutes?" She asked,
"Oh I can wait." He told her, grinning as she kissed him again, "2 minutes." He said.
"Woah! Sir!" Exclaimed Ollie as he walked out of the restaurant, his face going bright red with embarrassment.
"Still got it!" He laughed, walking over to them and looking at Zoe who was giggling at him.
"How many different women have you kissed today?" Asked Ryan, Martin turned to Zoe, placing his hands on her cheeks and kissing her quickly on the lips, "three!" He replied as Zoe slapped his arm laughing with shock.
"You're such a player!" Chuckled Ryan, patting Martin's shoulder.
"Right. We've got twenty minutes until music time so.. drinks?" He offered, stepping back towards the entrance,
"You gonna be with your new girlfriend?" Asked Ollie,
"God which one?" Laughed Martin, walking inside and seeing the lady again,
"She's pretty." Said Zoe,
"She's desperate." Said Martin,
"She's perfect." Zoe finished, smirking.
Martin looked over at Zoe and laughed before he was pulled away by the tie to the girl at the bar.
"who's she?" Asked the girl,
"She's my colleague." He replied,
"Just a colleague?" She asked him, playing with his tie again.
"Uh huh." He replied, just a colleague who's pregnant with my child..
The girl leaned in towards him again,
"J-just a warning.. my students are watching." He mumbled, lifting up his beer again but the lady smiled at him and put her hands on his cheeks and kissed him again.
Martin felt very uncomfortable. Henceforth he pulled away,
"I- I don't know your name." He said, awkwardly.
"I don't know yours either." She replied,
"Martin McCafferson." He said, before regretting that he'd told her his surname.
"I'm Martha Dubois." She replied, Martin's smile faded immediately as she wondered, "Martha McCafferson would have a nice ring to it."
Martin stood up and put his beer down, "sorry I have to-"
"It's the end of my shift anyway.. I'll see you around, Martin." She said.
Martin nodded back at her and took a seat over beside Zoe, his eyes wide and sad as he put his beer down on the table.
"You okay?" She asked, seeing his motionless expression.
"H-her name was Martha." Said Martin, watching her leave.
"There's a lot of people called Martha in the world." She told him,
"I know." He sighed, taking a chug of beer and looking into Zoe's eyes. "Can I get you a drink?"
"No." She replied.
Martin sighed, "water?"
"Honestly Martin."
Martin looked down, "I'm sorry."
Jemma and Ollie leaned against the wall of the bar, while Lucy and Ryan did the same farther away. Cloda was sitting alone on a bar stool while French boys walked up to her.
"Hey ginger lady." One said, "why are you alone?"
Cloda's eyes opened wide but she was too nervous to speak,
"You are the most beautiful lady I've ever seen."
Jemma and Ollie listened in before out of the blue Jemma said to Ollie,
"Kiss her."
"Sorry what?" He asked, focusing on Jemma again.
"I am not watching my best friend be destroyed all over again by boys that want nothing more than pleasure." She told him, "kiss her."
"But- Jem- I'm with you." He defended,
"And if you love me you'll kiss her."
Ollie raised an eyebrow, "no hard feelings?"
"None." Promised Jemma, "Go."
Ollie saw more boys crowding around Cloda, touching her hair and trying to get closer to her.
"Back off!" Shouted Ollie, getting them to listen,
"Who are you to tell us to back off?" Asked one of the boys standing up and facing him.
Cloda looked up at Ollie with confused eyes.
"Her boyfriend." He replied, nervously looking down to Cloda who had scrunched her lips trying not to cringe and laugh.
"Do you know this guy?" Asked one of the French people to Cloda.
"Yes." She replied, standing up and trying to get to Ollie.
"Prove it." Another said.
Cloda and Ollie's faces completely dropped. Ryan and Lucy, who were talking at the other side of the room had to stop and stare and how absurd the whole situation was.
Cloda was pushed into Ollie, nudging against his chest,
"I hope you have a plan, Ollie." She whispered into his ear,
"Ehh.." he laughed nervously,
"Are you about to do a Mr McCafferson?" Asked Cloda, raising her eyebrows subtly, defining the activity of kissing more than one person in one day as a 'Mr McCafferson'.
The crowd started touching Cloda again, pulling her away from Ollie,
"If we're gonna do something we've gotta do it n-" began Cloda before Ollie put his hands on her cheeks and pushed his closed lips against hers, taking complete care not to open them at all.
But then it just happened..
it was as if he couldn't stop it..
After another couple beers Martin still sat beside Zoe, not speaking but just thinking before he broke the silence.
"Okay, Maybe I'm a bit drunk, but surely that's not right." Said Martin, pointing at Cloda and Ollie kissing at the other side of the room.
"W-Wait that's not right at all." Exclaimed Zoe, standing up to see if she could sort it out but Martin put a hand in front of Zoe,
"Sit down." He told her, "Jemma's laughing."
Zoe nodded, smiling again, "he's taken a page out of your book."
"W-what? Kissing a girl you like in front of a girl you love? Not like me at all."
Zoe glanced over at him and smiled, slipping her hand into his and looking into his eyes, trying so hard to refrain from kissing him, but knowing that it would be a lost cause all the same.
