Chapter 8

Pretty Little Psycho

The day flew past in a flurry of glares and paper airplane attacks. Soon it was last lesson - Geography- and the four girls were learning about rivers and lakes. Well, they were pretending to learn. Instead, they were too worried, too caught up in the mystery, the horror, to concentrate on the mundane knowledge of ox-bow lakes.

Their quiet contemplation was shattered by the loud, obnoxious voice of Mr Milton, their class clown of a Geography teacher. "Very Good Barbara!" They could hear him say to the girl sat at the front, another fake friend of theirs.

At this point they were attracting fake friends from all directions. At least they had eachother, their only true friends. But seeds of doubt were beginning to grow between them. They'd been told that one of them was a killer after all. Could they really trust anyone?

Once again, Mr Miltons voice cut through the girls train of thoughts.
"Could our four murderers please stop sleeping during my lessons?" He called with a gleeful grin. The rest of the class laughed awkwardly, despite some of them not knowing nor understanding the events of Thursday. The four girls blushed, their eyes widening in shock and suprise.

"How could he say it so casually?" Mahnoor whispered frantically. The others shrugged unable to reply.

"Does he not know, what happened?!"Abir muttered, frowning in disbelief. "Or does he choose not to believe" Just as Oliwia was about to say something, their annoying Geography teacher unfortunately started to speak.

"Could one of you step up and give me the answer to the question on the board? I need to make sure no one falls asleep in my lesson again!"

Mr Milton rolled his eyes as he held out a pen for one of the 'bad' students to take. He tapped his foot impatiently until Abir finally volunteered and got up to get the pen. There she was standing in front of the board whilst everyone was digging holes in the bach of her head. Mr Milton stood there amused, waiting for her to get the question wrong.

Abir didn't really know how to answer the question, she wasn't really paying attention. How could she when all she could think about was the events of the last two nights? She couldn't believe one of her friends could be the possible murderer, but she was getting fed up of Mr Milton treating her and her friends as they were some type of monsters.

"At this rate we are going to be here till next Christmas. Answer the question today!" Mr Milton moaned, sighing dramatically. Then a mischievous look grew on his beaming face.

"If you finish the question today, I'll give you a whole week off!" He bargained with a gleeful smirk. It was an old joke, since the girls had geography as the last lesson before weekend, Mr Milton would always quip about giving them two days off from school. Now that it was nearly the half term holidays, the farcical geography teacher could tease them about giving them a week off.

As Abir shrugged to do the question the other three girls noticed FF's friend stare at Abir in anger. They wanted revenge or at least, they wanted to see some kind of regret, some guilt over killing their best friend.

"We didn't kill her!" Alice tried to whisper to them at the back of the class but it only made things worse.

Their glares and mutterings intensified, and Alice gave up, blushing with anger and frustration. Soon after that Abir finished the question and rushed back to her seat, just as everyone was packing up and leaving knowing that the bell would ring any minute now. She sat, slumped in her chair, whilst her friends around her grabbed their bags and shared a worried look. Mr Milton finished logging off his computer, stood up and scanned the classroom.

He soon spotted the four remaining stragglers near the back. His eyes seemed to light up as he saw them, the way a shark might when seeing a fresh pair of legs in the water.

"What are my pretty little psychos' still doing in my classrom? Not planning on murdering me next, I hope!" He chuckled as he tidied up some papers on his desk.

The girls scowled, knowing that one of them, could easily kill the obnoxious man in an empty classroom, in a nearly empty school. Then, all but one of them felt immediately guilty for even thinking about the possibilities of Mr Milton being murdered.

"We were just leaving sir, you know how slow Abir is!" Oliwia joked as she walked towards the door.
"Come on Abir!" Alice nudged Abir, trying to get her to hurry up.

Abir sighed, grabbed her bag and slunged it over her shoulder and walked towards the door to join Oliwia and Mahnoor, who were waiting outside. Alice rushed out after Abir and hurriedly shut the door on Sir's smiling figure.

"Ugh! So creepy!" Mahnoor rolled her eyes, then beckoned down the corridor. "Let's get out of here."  The others nodded and followed her to the stairs. As they walked out of the empty school, they talked about the events of last night.

"So, how did your parents react? " Alice asked with a sigh as the others flanked her sides as they walked. Abir rolled her eyes, groaning slightly.

"My mum grounded me. So now I'm going to be held hostage and forced to study every night by my mother... "
Then she grinned, " but my mum doesn't care enough about me to make sure I stay inside! I mean, just the other day , I was waiting after school for my mum to pick me up in the car, since you know how far I live from school, and she just forgot about me and drove away!" Abir exclaimed.

The others laughed, "It's okay Abir! We won't forget about you!" Oliwia hugged Abir tightly, before saying in an ominous tone, "We'll never forget you! You're trapped with us forever!"

"Aww poor Abir is grounded! My parents didn't really ground me but they said I probably shouldn't hang out with you guys, they think you are bad influence on me" Alice said. The others just nodded silently, in some way Alice's parents were right.

"What did your parents say, Mahnoor" Alice said trying and failing to change the topic.

"Oh my parents were furious, you should have seen the look in their faces!" Mahnoor laughed awkwardly. The other three couldn't help but feel sad, Mahnoor's mum made the best Italian pizzas and biryani and now that her parents were angry at them, they wouldn't get any free pizza and biryani from her. Having an Italian-Pakistani friend does have its advantages.

Mahnoor saw the sad look in her friend's faces so she continued "No, no, don't worry! They aren't angry at us, it's quite the opposite actually, they are angry at the police for accusing us! In fact my uncle is willing to fight our case in court"

The other three girls let out a sigh of relief. They were glad to know that there are some people that are willing to fight them.

"Thank God your parents aren't angry at us. I was scared they wouldn't give us pizzas anymore!" Alice blurted out. Oliwia and Abir nodded whilst Mahnoor glared at them.

"Just for pizza... just for pizza?!" Mahnoor mumbled to herself.

"Yep, just for pizza! In fact, let's go to your house right now and have some pizza!" Oliwia exclaimed.

"Umm... What? I mean NO you can't go to my house, I live too far away!" Mahnoor tried to find a good excuse.

"You live right next to the school!" Abir pointed out in monotone.

"Yeah! Come on, let's go to your house!" Alice pleaded.

Mahnoor thought about it for a second, then said. "Sorry guys you can't come to my house, Abir you are grounded, Alice your parents think we are a bad influence, and Oliwia I don't even know what your parents said!"

"Oh, my mum just laughed and told me stories of when she was younger and she used to get arrested..." Oliwia said, "To be honest I think she stopped caring after bailing my two older brothers out of jail many times it didn't surprise her that I got arrested as well." She continued.

The others stared in surprise. "Okay... Well your family is crazy..." Abir muttered.

"At least that means she is free to go out and stuff." Alice shrugged. "That reminds me- We need to be able to sneak out tonight!" Alice continued mysteriously.

The others frowned. "Well, for me it won't be sneaking out, I'll just walk out the front door! But what are we sneaking out for?" Oliwia asked nonchalantly.

Alice grinned, "We are going to the police station and we are going to prove we are innocent!" She spoke with determination, trying to act intelligent.

"Great plan..." Oliwia muttered sarcastically.

"Yep!" Alice agreed stupidly. "It begins at midnight!"
