Chapter 7

Nowhere to hide from all of this  madness

There they were. At the gates of their school. A prison, full of staring, judging, watching eyes. The worst place to go when you have you have something to hide.

The mourning air was misty, droplets of water rested on each surface, and four girls stood defiantly at the entrance to their school. They were late. None of them could face what lay inside the crumbling, brick building. But they had no choice.

They were never alone anymore, not after last night, now the police watched their every move. They had to go on. Besides it was Friday. The last day before the half term holidays. One whole week without school. A whole week of freedom but not for these four.

"Looks like we Have no Choice but to go in" Abir sighed.

"Or we could just skip class" Oliwia interrupted.

"No! We are good girls! We always pay attention in class and we are fabulous" Mahnoor exclaimed.

"Well we are fabulous, but still what would people say?" Alice asked worriedly.

"They would thank us for killing FF" Oliwia said proudly.

"But we didn't kill her" Alice said. It sounded more like a question than a statement.

"Yay! We have managed to miss 10 minutes of maths thanks to you guys talking about nonsense" Mahnoor said happily. "But we should probably go to class, don't want to get in any more trouble" she continued.

They all looked at each other waiting for Abir to do something. "Well no point in delaying the inevitable" Abir sighed, before stepping over the threshold of the school.

"Are you going to do it or should I?" Abir asked, her hand hovering over the handle to the door of the four girls maths classroom. "Yeah, sure go ahead" Mahnoor muttered as she looked worriedly around the barren hallway.

As they stepped foot in the class everyone looked at them. You know when you are late for class and everyone stares at you as if you've killed someone, well the funny thing is one of them has.

"Good morning girls. You are a little late but I will let this slide due to recent events. You guys must be traumatised" The maths teacher welcomed them to class.

"Yes-"
"-Traumatised-"
"-Very."
The girls lied with no emotion on their faces, fed up of their teacher taking such an interest in their lives.

As they walked towards the back of the class, where they all sat together, they saw that everyone was looking at them: some with fear, some with anger and some with admiration... some of their classmates admired them for being able to do a thing that they all wished to do. Yep FF wasn't exactly liked by people.

The four girls just ignored the stares, the dirty looks and the few hurtful comments they were receiving by their classmates until Abir got hit by a paper aeroplane thrown by none other than Maddie Cooper, one of FF's closest 'friends'. At this the composed, poker-faced, young girls snapped, their facade crumbling. But who can blame them?

"I can't deal with this... This abuse! I mean come on! A flipping paper aeroplane?!" Alice exploded, grabbing the plane and crumbling it in her fist.

Abir lay face down on the desk, grumbling "How could it have all gone so wrong?" Mahnoor sighed as she doodled, absentmindedly, in the back of her dog-eared and tattered maths books. "Just one more day..." she muttered. Alice nodded before standing up to drop the pesky paper-plane in the bin.

"Stop!" Oliwia suddenly yelled, her voice barely breaking through the hectic bustle of the maths classroom, as she lunged forward and grabbed Alice wrist.

"Ow! What's your Problem?!" Alice moaned, dropping the plane into the bin, but not before Oliwia managed to grab the bearer up paper.

"Look!" Oliwia exclaimed, opening the plane and holding it up to the three other girls. This is what it showed-

Abir growled "Liar? How dare they?!" The others nodded, scowls appearing on their faces.

"They are the liars for saying that we are liars!" Mahnoor put her hands in the air, turning to face the classroom. "Who threw it?" She whispered. The others also turned to peer around the classroom.

"Don't know. Don't care. Probably one of FFs friends. Maddie or Sharon or whatever. The whole class hates us now"Alice sighed.

"How can they hate us? We haven't done anything wrong!" Mahnoor cried.

"We may not have done anything wrong but these stupid people don't understand" Oliwia explained.

"I agree. Let's not try to bring too much attention to ourselves" Alice said suspiciously before sitting down as far as she could from her friends.

This little action didn't go unnoticed by Mahnoor. She could tell that Alice was acting a little unusual. Unusual than usual. She seemed to be avoiding her friends. She couldn't possibly think her friends could be the murderer? Or could she?

All of a sudden a glue stick flew across the table hitting Mahnoor on the face, snapping her out of her thoughts. "Ouch! That hurt!" she glared at the person who hit her with it. Oliwia of course! "Glue gives you knowledge!" Oliwia shouted all happily to.

"Glue gives you knowledge but no amount of knowledge will give you glue!" Mahnoor said cleverly.

"What?!" Oliwia said puzzled. Mahnoor took advantage of her confusion as she put a green pen in Oliwia's hair.

"Green pen looks nice on you" Mahnoor complimented happily.

Oliwia took out a potato from her bag and threw it a Mahnoor. "You can turn into a potato now!"

Mahnoor pouted, "I wanted to become glitter... but yay! Free potato!"

Alice looked quizzically at Oliwia, "Where do you keep getting those potatoes?"

Oliwia shrugged "I stole from the fridge in D.T."

Abir suddenly looked up from her pristine maths book. "What did you guys get for question 10?" She asked absentmindedly.

The others sprang up, eyes wide, "Question 10?!" They exclaimed. "We haven't even started question 1!"

Alice spoke up, "Wait, does that mean you can give us the answers?" She spoke, hopefully.

"No."

"Aww... meanie...." Alice pouted. "Looks like I'll have to work out the answers on my own..." She frowned, "Nah, too much effort."

"Well, we're not giving up so easily!" Oliwia smirked as she looked at Mahnoor. Mahnoor nodded, instantly knowing what Oliwia was silently communicating.

Mahnoor pushed away her chair and walked up to Abir. She leaned in and smiled, "Oh hi, Abir! What are you up to?" She sang, slyly. Abir looked up suspiciously.

"You already know what I'm doing. I'm doing my work, unlike you guys!" She retorted icily.

"Uh huh, yeah sure." Mahnoor muttered absentmindedly, as Oliwia sneakily scooted closer to Abir.

"Hey, look at sir!" Mahnoor pointed suddenly to the front of the class. Abir suddenly turned around and looked at the teacher. At the same time Oliwia snatched the book from Abir.

"Hey! Give it back" Abir screamed at Oliwia while Alice looked at the answers in Abir's book.

"Yay! Okay I got all the answers, have your book back Abir!" Alice threw Abir's book back at her. She then threw her hands in the air. "Sir I've finished!" Alice exclaimed.

Oliwia slapped her, "Hey, wait for us to finish!" She took Alice's book and copied the answers. "Well, Sir is ignoring you anyway."

Alice sighed, "Sir doesn't like me... Oh well! I don't like him!"

Abir scowled at her friends as she tried as she tried to finish her own work.

Suddenly someone from the middle of the classroom called out, "Sir I'm done!"

Mr Wilbert immediately looked up, pausing from his never-ending marking he seems to be doing. "Oh that's great! Come up here and get the extension work! Everybody else: Hurry up!" He replied.

Oliwia and Mahnoor looked at sir angrily. "We finished first!" They both screamed at the teacher.

Mr Wilbert didn't look at them, he just kept staring at the place where FF used to sit. She was his favourite. Alice got up and walked up to him, trying to get his attention.

"Sir!" She shouted when standing next to him. He gasped, turning quickly to face the enraged girls.

"What- what is it?" He stammered, his face reddening.

"Sir, me and Mahnoor, Abir and Oliwia are all finished, but you ignored us! Can we have the extension work?" Alice pleaded angrily.

"Hmm, well okay, you should have just put your hands up!" He muttered, shoving four pieces of paper into Alice's outstretched hands. "Whuu? Wait, no, Sir, we did put our hands up!" She tried to argue.

Mr Wilbert turned away, giving her the cold-shoulder. "Go back to your seat." He growled coldly.

Alice frowned, "But...okay..." She sighed and turned back to the class, which was surprisingly quiet and staring at her. Alice blushed, stopping in her tracks at the sight of so many watching eyes.
"Um..." She mumbled, and rushed back to her seat.

Once she was back, she slammed down to papers and put her face flat on the desk, moaning in embarrassment."What is his problem?!" She mumbled.

Abir frowned, contemplating something in her head. "I think... he's scared... of us?"

The others stared at her in disbelief. "Scared... of us?!" Oliwia scoffed. "Why would he be scared of us?" Alice giggled.

"Well, Alice might unleash a hoard of pigeons upon him, and Oliwia could throw potato at him! And I'm just too fabulous to even look at!" Mahnoor spoke up

They all laughed. But it seemed forced. In the back of everyone's mind was the simple, yet unrecognisable thought that they, four teenage girls, could scare a grown man. What did they do? What had one of them done? Should they also be scared of the killer amongst them?

------------------------------------------------------

So, we're finally done with our English exam! Which means we don't have to pay attention in our English lessons anymore so there's more time for us to write chapters, which is why this one is so long! Well, until we have to start revising for our maths exam...ugh... But the summer holidays are in exactly one month! Yay!

Anyway, here's the song of the week- Madness By Ruelle, because these girls are surrounded by madness, and so are we, with all our exam stress!

See you next week! If we're still alive by then... ugh school!
