Chapter 11

Round 2 continued to go on its way, up next was Shiozaki was versing Iida. Her vines shot towards him.

"Here we go," Iida said. "Recipro...Burst!" He shot right past her vines." Shiozaki yelped as Iida pushed her out of the ring.

"Shiozaki is out. Idia wins the match!" Midnight announced. Next, it was Tokoymai versus Mina.

"Dark Shadow!" Tokoyami shouted.

"I got her!" Dark Shadow growled, popping out, Mina threw acid at Dark Shadow in fear. He slammed into her.

"No!" Mina squealed as she went back, she tried to stay in but landed on her butt outside of the line.

"Ashido is out of bounds!" Midnight announced. "Tokoyami will advance!"

"Whoa!" Mineta gasped as the crowd cheered. "He won that battle super fast!"

"Tokoyamni's Dark Shadow is so amazing," Tsu commented. "Ribbit." She leaned down to Urakaka. "What's wrong, you still worried about Midoriya?" Tsu asked.

"She said she had to perform surgery," Urakaka said.

"Recovery Girl's the best---you've got nothing to worry about, "Mineta said.

"He's right," Tsu confirmed.

"Sure," Urakaka smiled back.

"Think of the cool scares that could go with it as well!" Nami beamed toward her. "Midoriya will be looking way cooler than before!"

"Sure," Urakaka smiled toward her. "I've been wanting to ask Takeda."

"Hm?" Nami asked tilting her head.

"Your match with Todoroki seemed to be an on a personal stance," said Urakaka as the looked back at the field. "Is there anything going on between you two?"

Nami looked back at the field. "Not really."

Jiro leaned over. "That's surprising with the way you two were battling against each other. Sort as if you had the kid gloves on and off."

"I've known Shoto since we were preschool age," answered Nami. "My dad is a dispatcher at his dad's agency."

"Woah! That's amazing!" chimed Kaminari. "Having a connection like that will do well for your succession to being a hero!"

"Like I Shoto I wish to succeed without that flaming lunatic," said Nami looking back at the field. 'Besides, Endeavor will only want to train Shoto.' Her classmates glanced at her and then back at the area. Down below, Kirishima and Bakugo were going up against each other. Kirishima managed to land a scratch on Bakugo's cheek. He let off an explosion at Kirishima's side.

"He countered!" announced Present Mic.

"Ha!" laughed Kirishima stepping back. "Nice try, but that's not gonna work on me, Explosion Boy," Bakugo growled narrowing his eyes at Kirishima.

"Kirishima! Go straight for his chin!" shouted Tetsutesu.

"What you're rooting for him now, man?" asked Honenuki eyeing his classmate. Bakugo continuously dodged Kirishima's punches.

"Bakugo's having a heck of a time dodging Kirishima's fierce attacks!" shouted Present Mic. Everyone was on the edge of their seats. "Bakugo is countering again!" Bakugo landed a successful explosion on Kirishima. "But what's this? It seems to be working this time!"

"You've been straining to keep your body rock-hard this whole fight, right?" asked Bakugo with a wicked smile. "That means you're overusing your Quirk. And sooner or later you'll fall apart." He let out a huge explosion. Bakugo then let out a mirage of explosions.

"Too much!" grunted Kirishima trying to shield himself.

"THE FINISHING BLOW!" shouted Bakugo letting out another huge explosion. "DIE!" Kirishima flew backward in defeat. "There. Now I understand why you were trying to avoid a drawn-out match with me."

"Kirishima has been knocked out, Bakugo is the winner!" Midnight delightedly announced. The crowd cheered loudly as Kirishima got carried off.

"What are you doing idiot?" demanded Tetsutesu in rage. "I thought you had more guts than that, Kirishima!"

"With that vicious carpet bombing, Bakugo advances to the third round!" announced Present Mic." On the screen they saw, Todoroki, Iida, Tokoyami, and Bakug. "Ladies and Gentlemen, our final four!"

"Deku!" Urakaka greeted, and everyone looked back at him.

"Hi, Midoriya," greeted Tsu. "It looks like your surgery went okay."

"Did you get any cool scars?" asked Nami.

"Yeah," nodded Midoriya; he looked at Nami. "Yeah." He looked back at the others. "Recovery Girl healed me enough to walk." He went and took a seat next to Urakaka.

"Sure, but shouldn't you be taking it easy?" asked Urakaka.

"I wanna watch these matches in person," answered Midoriya. "This is where everyone's efforts are finally gonna pay off."

"Plus, it's not like he is the one doing the fighting," pointed out Nami. "He would've been taking it easy either way."

"You are just gloomy cause you lost to Todoroki," said Sero tapping her on the shoulder.

"You have a lot of nerve popsicle tape," Nami responded looking back at him. He glared at her, shaking his head.

"The first match of the semifinals!" Present Mic exclaimed. "Both come from hero families, making this a battle of elites! From the hero course, Tenya Iida! Versus...His classmate, Shoto Todoroki!" The two stared at each other intensely. "Start!" Todoroki opened it with his ice move, and Iida ran around it. Shoto blocked him from going further with more ice. "Iida's been surrounded!"

"Todorokis going in for the win already!" Present Mic exclaimed.

"Whoa!" Urakaka gasped as they watched Iida jump up. "A standing long jump!"

"Recipro...Burst!" Iida exclaimed he slammed his leg, and Todoroki ducked. He jumped and kicked Todoroki on the back, slamming him to the ground.

"Look at the speed!" Present Mic shouted.

"That was a heavy hit!" Sero shouted over the gasps of the classmates around him.

"I didn't know he could kick like that," Kaminari sweated. Todoroki spread more ice on the ground. Iida grabbed the back of Todoroki's jacket, then sped to the other side. He suddenly gasped; he looked back.

"My muffler's blocked!" Iida exclaimed. "When did you--?"

"When you kicked me," Todoroki answered as he froze Iida. "I've mainly been showing off ranged attacks today. You forgot I could do precision moves, too, didn't you?" Todoroki stood up. "I was trying to dodge your Recipro. But it was too fast to avoid, even for me."

"Iida has been immobilized," Midnight announced. "Todoroki advances!"

"Todoroki moves on to the finals without even using his flames again!" Present Mic exclaimed.

"Poor Iida," Midoriya breathed softly.

"I'm sorry brother," Iida whimpered.

"I was really hoping he'd be able to destroy Shoto," said Nami lowering her head a bit.

Sero patted Nami on the back. "Why do you want Todoroki to go down so bad?"

"Do not get me wrong, I admire his strength," said Nami looking back at him. "I have been trying to get the upper hand on him since we like ten and that was just with a card game." She looked back at the field.

"And now, Bakugo versus Tokoyami!" Present Mic announced. "Bakugo's vicious rushes are unstoppable!"

"That thing is so damn annoying!" Bakugo growled as he ran trying to keep his distance from Dark Shadow. "Die! Loser!" He slammed an explosion onto Dark Shadow.

"Such brutality," Tokoyami grunted.

"Tokoyami has advanced this far with an almost unbeatable Quirk. But this time, it looks like he's on the ropes!"

"What is that bird brain doing?" Mina demanded. "He attacked super hard when he was up against us!"

"There must be a reason," Yaoyorozu suspected.

"Dark shadow," Urakaka breathed. "He can't go on the offensive because of all the light. This matchup couldn't be any worse."

"Most people don't know about his weakness," Midoriya added. "Kaccahn may not have figured it out yet. " Bakugo used his explosions to shoot up into the air. He was going straight down towards Tokoyamni.

"Grab him!" Tokoyami shouted as Bakugo hit the shadow with an explosion. "Dark Shadow!"

"Wow!" Present Mic shouted as Bakugo evaded the move. "Bakugo leaps behind Tokoyami!" He landed, holding out his hands.

"Stun grenade!" Bakugo shouted before Dark Shadow could get closer to him.

"How am I supposed to commentate when I can't see?" Present Mic complained as everyone braced themselves from the aftershock. "What's happening?"

"Tell me Bakugo," Tokoyami growled as the smoke cleared. "Did you know of my weakness before?" Bakugo was on top of Tokoymani, Dark Shadow was behind the birdman in fear. Bakugo was holding Tokoyami's beak.

"I figured it out by attacking over and over again," Bakugo smiled evilly. In another hand, his explosions were continually going off. "It was a pretty bad matchup for you. Almost feel bad. But you're done."

"I surrender," Tokoyami grunted.

"Tokoyami gives up!" Midnight shouted. "Bakugo's the winner of this match!"

"That means our final fight will be between Todoroki and Bakugo!" Present Mic revealed. The two boys stared at each other.

"Man, what a bummer," Urakaka said. "Poor Tokoyami."

"I totally thought the bird would win for sure," Sero admitted.

"I guess that means his Quirk's not invincible after all," Kaminari gleamed.

"So light is his weakness," Kirishima noted. "Interesting. And Bakugo's the kind of guy that would exploit that." He looked at Nami. "That explains why Dark Shadow was not able to get close to us at the battle training."

Nami looked at him. "Huh, now that you mentioned it." Nami tilted her head, putting a hand up to her chin.

"YOU ARE JUST REALIZING IT!" Kirishima and Sero exclaimed both bunking her on the head.

 "Kacchan is amazing," said Midoriya.

"You chose a terrifying person to make your enemy," Kendo said as she tapped Monoma's head.

"Not all," Monoma denied. "Just luck that his Quirk worked so well against that guy."

"These finals have been one big showcase for Class 1-A. Dammit," Tetsutetsu growled.

"It doesn't matter who wins are loses," someone said. "These first years are amazing!"

"The draft is gonna be so insane this year," another said.

" I wonder what this match will be like," Midoriya said. "Besides intense."

"We'll have to take notes for next time," Iida said walking up to them.

"Iida!" Midoriya gasped. He looked over at them with a smile, they smiled back. Suddenly he started shaking.

"Whoa! What's wrong?" Urakaka and Midoriya.

"It's just my phone," Iida answered calmly.

"Well, that's a relief," the two said at the same time. He stepped into the hall to take the call. The fire down below lit up, catching everyone's attention.

"Welcome to the final battle of the UA High School Sports Festival!" Present Mic shouted over the fans. "In just a moment here, we'll see which first years come out on top!" Bakugo and Todoroki stared at each other. "Yes, it all comes down to this folks! From the hero course, Shoto Todoroki." The crowd cheered. "Versus his classmate, Katsuki Bakugo!" They cheered again. "Now begin!" Todoroki sent out his biggest opening ice attack of the day.

"BEAT HIS ASS BAKUGO!" shouted Nami getting to her feet, and tapping on the fence.

"Calm down the match just started!" urged Mina as Tokoyami pulled Nami back into her seat.

"Damnit!" Bakugo growled as he blasted his way through the ice. The ice stopped before the crowd this time.

"Todoroki starts with a crazy ice blast!" Present Mic commented. "Bakugo seems to have been completely buried! Is it possible we've already got a winner down there?"

"This isn't like when he attacked Sero," Izuku noticed as well. "The ice just now was more controlled. He's being cautious." There were muffled explosions.

"What's that terrifying sound?" Mineta asked.

"It's gotta be Bakugo's doing," Tsu answered. Seconds later, there was a huge explosion revealing Bakugo. Todoroki immediately jumped back.

"He used his explosions to tunnel through the ice like some kind of mole man!" Sero exclaimed.

"Fitting for Bakugo," said Nami nodding her head.

"These two are insane," Kaminari commented.

"You've got some pretty powerful attacks," Bakugo said as he slowly started his explosions on the ice he was holding. Todoroki ran towards him. "But you're a bad aim." He blasted to Todoroki. "Try harder!" He side-blasted, then grabbed Todoroki by the head.

"Go Bakugo!" cheered Nami making a fist.

"He dodged his right side with a blast!" Izuku commented.

"Awesome," Urakaka breathed.

"Are you underestimating me?" Bakugo asked. "Idiot!" He threw Todoroki with a blast; Todoroki ice-surfed before he could get out of bounds.

"Todoroki surfs an ice wave to avoid going out of bounds" Present Mic commented. "Looks like fun." Bakugo grabbed Todoroki's left side.

"Use your left side. Do it, Shoto!" Endeavor shouted. Todoroki ended up just throwing Bakugo.

"Stop screwing around," Bakugo growled once he came to a stop. "What, do you think I'm not worthy of your fire?"

"Bakugo timed his explosions and grabbed Todoroki's left side on purpose," Aizawa explained. "He's done his research. His aptitude for this becomes more apparent with every fight."

"Todoroki's doing well so far, but his attacks are too simple," Aizawa explained. "It almost seems he's lost his spark after his match with Midoriya."

"Huh," said Nami. "Now, that I am more focused on Todoroki...I've never seen him look so vulnerable like this in public."

"So are you going to root for Todoroki now?" asked Tsu.

"Nah," denied Nami waving off the idea.

"You bastard!" Bakugo growled as he sparked up his hands. "I'll tell you what'll happen if you make a fool outta me. I'll kill you!" Todoroki gasped. "I don't want there to be any doubt that I'm the best student at the festival. That's only possible if you can come at me as hard as you can! There's no point if you don't fight me with the same power you used against Deku! If you don't wanna win this, why are you even here?" He charged towards him. "Show everyone you're trying to destroy me!" Todoroki seemed unsure of what to do.

"Don't give up!" Izuku shouted. "Do your best!"

"C'mon on Bakugo!" shouted Nami.

"That stupid nerd!" Bakugo smirked. He uses his explosions to launch himself up. Todoroki's ice melted away, as his fireside lit up. Bakugo started to use his explosions in a way, that would make him spin. Putting himself in his own personal tornado. Todoroki seemed confident, but as Bakugo got closer, he became sad letting his fire go out.

"Howitzer Impact!" Bakugo shouted as he spun at Todoroki, he let off a ginormous explosion. The ice completely broke, and there was a strong aftershock.

"Who-ho-ho-hoa!" Present Mic exclaimed. "Bakugo combined speed and rotation with a huge blast like he used against Urakaka! He turned himself into a human missile! Todoroki didn't fire off the flame attack that woke us in his match with Midoriya! So what has become of our two competitors?" The smoke slowly cleared; they saw Bakugo lying on his front as Todoroki was knocked out, out of bounds on his ice.

"You decided not to use your fire?" Bakugo raged. "No." He shakingly got onto his feet. He slowly made his way over to Todoroki. "Hey...Hey!" He ran over to the knocked-out one." He picked up Todoroki slightly by his shirt. "You stop messing around! This isn't a real win for me unless you try harder! It can't end this way. Now get up!" He started to get sleepy. "Don't--" It was Midnight's mist; he fell asleep, falling on the ice.

"Todoroki is out of bounds," Midnight said putting her hand up. That means...Bakugo is the winner!" The crowd cheered.

"And with that, the final match is officially over!" Present Mic announced. "The first-year champion of the UA Sports Festival is...Katsuki Bakugo from Class 1-A!" The crowd cheered. The field began to get cleaned up, and Nami went down to the recovery room.

"You may come in!' said Recovery Girl, Nami opened the door to see that Shoto was already awake. Once the field was cleaned up, all the first years were back down, for the award ceremony.

"Nami," greeted Shoto looking over at her. "What are you doing here?" She stepped in closing the door.

"I came to check up on you of course," answered Nami, she looked at Recovery Girl. "How is he doing ma'am?"

"He will be just fine," assured Recovery Girl. "He will be brand new in no time."

"Nami, I heard you cheering for Bakugo out there," said Shoto looking at his hand.

"Well, yeah we made pack to take you down," answered Nami looking at him. "It seems we both failed." She folded her arms. "You came in wanting to win the sports festival and you could have...so why did you not use your fire?"

"Midoriya opened my eyes," said Shoto. "Then I started to doubt myself, my mother...I couldn't stop thinking about her and the words she said to me."

"That does explain it," said Nami nodding her head. "Whatever you are feeling, do remember you have friends by your side." He looked at her. "As your friend, I will be your side during your joys and doubts...and lows. You have every right to be feeling the way that you are, please remember you have people to lean on...Next time we face, I want you to come at me with everything." She put out a fist. "We can both get better together that way." Shoto looked at her fist in confusion. "We can shake on it."

"No," denied Shoto balling up his hand. "Let's get better together." He held out his fist, and Nami gave it a tap.

"The first-year students have completed all the events for the UA Sports Festival," Midnight announced. Fireworks went off as camera people repeatedly took pictures. "Now it's time to relax and enjoy the awards ceremony." The crowd cheered as more fireworks went off. Confetti blew everywhere, the stage was appearing, Bakugo was losing his marbles tied to the first-place post, and he had a muffle over his mouth.

"Whoa," Mineta whimpered.

"What the heck?" Jiro asked.

"He's been goin' nuts ever since he woke up," Kirishima explained. "Man, Bakugo. Pull yourself together."

"I wish I had my phone to snap a picture of this," said Nami tilting her head back and forth. "Make a poster out of it."

"Saying this Bakugo, Class 1-A's very own demon," said Sero.

"Cut it out you two before he overhears," said Yayorozou putting fingers on the bridge of her nose.

'If Bakugo does not view this as an actual win then that means we failed at destroying Todoroki,' Nami thought to herself. 'What happened out there Shoto?'

"He's acting like a feral animal," Tokoyami said, as he stood in third place. Katsuki started muffling screams at a very sad Todoroki.

"Tenya Iida actually shares the third-place award with Tokoymani," Midnight explained. "But, unfortunately, he had to leave for family reasons. Gotta love those familial bonds." She posed, and Tokoyami became alarmed.

"Must you really?" Tokoyami asked.

"Too bad Iida couldn't be here," Tsu said. "He was so excited."

"Yeah," Midoriya nodded.

***Flashback***
Urakaka, Midoriya, and Nami were pulled off to the side by Iida.

"Urakaka, Midoriya. Midoriya," Iida began. "I know this is sudden, but I have to leave now. A villain got my older brother." The three gasped.

"Wait, you're saying Ingenium is hurt?" Midoriya asked.

"Yes," Iida asked.

"Do they think he's gonna be okay?" Urakaka asked.

"I don't know many details," Iida said. "That's why I have to go right away."

"Of course," Nami breathed.

*****

"Now, let's break out the hardware. Of course, there's only one person worthy of distributing the awards," Midnight said. All Midnight started laughing as he appeared on top of the building, and fans started cheering.

"All Might's up there!"

"Citizens!" All Might shouted as he jumped into the air. "I am here with the medals!"

"All Might is the number one hero!" Midnight said at the same time as he landed. The arena was completely silent. "Ruined that, didn't I?"

"This group of first-years is so lucky!" someone said.

"I can't believe they got the best hero teaching them."

"So now, you are here All Might, why don't you start the presentation?" Midnight asked.

All Might laughed going up to Tokoyami first. "Young Tokoyami. Congratulations." He gave him the medal. "You showed great strength out there."

"Your words humble me, sir," Tokoyami said.

"However," All Might said as he hugged him. "You've more training to do if you are going to be able to fight against different kinds of villains. You're not going to be able to rely on your Quirk in every battle you face."

"Yes, sir," Tokoyami said as he looked at his meddle.

"Young Todoroki. Congratulations!" All Might cheered as he stood in front of the second-place winner. "I'm assuming there's a reason you didn't use your left side. Though it cost you the final."

"Midoriya opened my eyes during our match," Todoroki answered. "But then I started to doubt myself. I think I now understand a little about why you're so interested in him. I want to be the kind of hero you are, but my path isn't as clear as I thought it was. I have a lot to think about. And I still need to settle things with someone. Very soon."

"I've never seen this kind of look on your face before," All Might said. He hugged the young boy. "I won't ask for details, but trust yourself. I'm sure you'll work things out."

"Right," Todoroki breathed.

"And now, Young Bakugo," All Might said as he stood in front of the first-place winner. "This is a little much." He started to undo the muffle. "Well, you did what you said you'd do in the pledge. You're true to your word."

"All Might," Bakugo growled once his mouth was freed. "Winning first place this way doesn't prove that I'm the best one here!" He was in a complete rage. "Even if the world considers me a winner. I refuse to accept it like this!"

"In a world where we're constantly being compared to one another. There are very few who can keep their eyes focused on the top spot," All Might said. "You're one of them." Bakugo remained angry. "Please accept this medal. Even if you have to think of it as a scar. Something you'll never forget."

"I don't want that piece of garbage!" Bakugo yelled.

"C'mon," All Might encouraged as he tried to put it on, Bakugo fought for the medal to not be put on him.

"Get that trash offa me, you idiot!" Bakugo yelled. It got put in his mouth.

"Here they are!" All Might announced. "The winners of this year's sports festival! But listen closely. Any of you first years could have ended up standing on these podiums. Think about what you've done today. You've challenged each other, learned, and climbed even closer toward your goals of being pros. I think the next generation of heroes is proving to be our most promising one yet!" He put a finger in the air. "So I have one thing to say. I want to hear everyone yell it with me. You know what it. Thanks for your hard work!"

"Plus Ultra!" the audience shouted at the same time.

"What?" the students demanded over the boos. "That was the perfect time to say Plus Ultra, All Might!"

"Well, yeah, I guess but everyone did such a good job!" All Might defended himself. Once the festival was over, Class 1-A went back to school, with the other students. Iida's seat was empty.

"Nice work," Aizawa complimented. "You have the next two days of school off to recuperate. I'm sure the pros who watched the festival will wanna recruit some of you. We'll look over the draft forms and update you when you return. Get some rest. You still have a lot of training."

"Yes, sir!" the students responded. They all got up to go home; Nami stayed back to talk to her teacher.

"You are supposed to be heading home," Aizawa reminded her.

"I just want to know what you thought of Hitoshi!" exclaimed Nami. "Did you find him interesting at all?"

"The brainwashing guy?" Aizawa recalled looking at her.

"YEAH!" Nami cheered throwing her hands in the air. "Shinso has been my best friend in the world since preschool! We both wanted to become heroes, but he knew he would not be able to get into the hero course based on the entrance exams, so he was really hoping to make a grand impression today!"

"Shinso has caught my eye," Aizawa admitted. "Instead of worrying about him, worry about your hero's career path as well, there is a lot you need to work on after watching your performance."

"SIR!" responded Nami dashing out of the room, she skipped all the way down to Shinso's class, where he waited on the wall. "Hitoshi!"

"How do you still have this much energy?" asked Shinso shaking his head. "You should be slugging it like the rest of us."

Nami put a hand on his arm. "Good news! My teacher did say he was interested in you!" Shinso gasped. "Big things are coming for you! In no time you'll be in the hero course!"

"Did he actually say he was interested or did you harrass him into it?" asked Shinso in disbelief.

"It's the truth!" chimed Nami throwing hands in the air.

"It seems all my hard work to get noticed paid off," smiled Shinso. "Let's head home for now."

"Right," nodded Nami. The two talked each other's ear off the entire way home.

****

The next day, Nami was working at the flower shop with Shinso; both getting their ear talked from Ms. Takeda about yesterday.

"I know it was a festival, but did you have to go so hard on Shoto?" asked Sana putting bouquets together. "You could have gotten your father fired."

"I doubt that, Mom," said Nami. "It's called the sports festival for a reason, if it got bad the pros were there to step in."

"That doesn't put me at ease," huffed Sana.

"Listen, Shoto didn't use his left side, it was not as bad as it could have been," said Nami with a smile.

"Nami," sighed Sana; she looked at Shinso at the register. "You did beautiful out there, people came to the store all cheering you on."

"Thanks, Ms. Takeda," said Shinso. "Your daughter had no shame about what happened during her match with Todoroki, standing there practically naked in front of everybody."

"HITOSHI!" exclaimed Nami in fright looking at him.

"NAMI!" shouted Sana furiously raising a broom; she started to chase Nami. "DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT USING YOUR QUIRK!"

"MA'AM!" responded Nami, Shinso just laughing watching the scene in front of him.
