Chapter 12

The students recovered from their injuries in days after the sports festival ended, and then classes started back up. During that time; the flower shop got more customers wanting to see Shinso and Nami. It was raining the morning they returned the school. In her rain gear, Nami was skipping up to the school, making sure to splash in every puddle possible.

"Nami," said Hitoshi avoiding a splash. "You are getting people wet."

Nami looked up at him. "Not only is this a hero school, but it's also a high school, getting splashed with water should be the least of anyone's worries." Hitoshi shook his head. In no time, they went to their separate classrooms.

"It's so weird that people recognize us from TV," smiled Ashido. "Everyone wanted to talk to me on my way here!"

"Yeah! Me too!" chimed Kirishima pointing at himself.

"The flower shop was busier than usual because of it!" said Nami. "Mom kept getting frustrated that customers kept talking to me distracting me from work."

"People on the street were staring at me!" said Hagakure. "It was kind of embarrassing."

"Sure, but isn't that pretty normal for you?" Ojiro.

"You won't believe what a bunch of elementary school brats yelled at me," groaned Sero in annoyance.

"Nice try?" guessed Tsu. Sero groaned turning away from them.

"All it took was one sports festival and suddenly we're like celebrities," cheered Kaminari.

"This school is really amazing," gushed Mineta. The door slid open, they hurried into their seats.

"Morning," greeted Mr. Aizawa.

"Good morning, Mr. Aizawa," everyone greeted. He slowly walked over to the podium.

"Ribbit," breathed Tsu putting a finger to her face. "Mr. Aizawa, you don't have bandages anymore. "That's good news."

"The old lady went a little overboard in her treatment," revealed Aizawa. "Anyway. We have a big class today on Hero Informatics."

'Oh no,' the students thought with dread.

'I bet it has something to do with CPR,' Nami thought to herself.

"You need codenames," revealed Aizawa. "Time to pick your hero identities." The class mood changed instantly.

'This is gonna be totally awesome!' everyone cheered. His eyes glowed red and everyone sat down. "Shhh."

"This is related to the pro hero draft picks that I mentioned the last time we were in class together," explained Aizawa. "Normally, students don't have to worry about the draft yet. Not until their second or third year actually, but your class is different. In fact, by extending offers to first-years like you, pros are essentially investing in your potential. Any others can be rescinded if their interest in you dies down before graduation, though." Nami could hear Mineta shaking from behind her.

Mineta hit the desk. "Stupid, selfish adults."

"So, what you're saying is, we'll still have to prove ourselves after we've gotten recruited," said Hagakure.

"Correct," said Aizawa.

'That means pros wanna see up close how the class of 1-a is, the class that survived a villain attack.' Nami thought to herself.

"Now. here are the totals for those of you who got offers," said Aizawsa, he pressed a clicker.

A list appeared for them all to see.

Todoroki: 4123

Takeda: 4110

Bakugo: 3556

Tokoyami: 360

Iida: 301

Kamianri: 272

Yaoyorozu: 108

Kirishima: 68

Urakaka: 20

Sero: 14

"In past years, it's been more spread out. But there's a pretty big gap this time."

"Gah! That's no fair," cried Kaminari putting his head back.

Nami looked over at him. "You still got offers; so you have no room to complain."

"I bet you only got recruit due to--" Mineta began, and quickly got cut off by Sero's hand.

"What about the real star?" steamed Aoyama. "Moi?"

"Todoroki and Takeda got ahead of Bakugo?" noted Jiro.

"Yeah, it's the opposite of how they each placed in the festival," added Kirishima.

"They probably weren't excited working with a guy who had to be chained up at the end," said Sero.

Bakugo looked back angrily. "If I scare a pro, they're just weak!" He looked at Nami. "How the hell did you get more than me?"

"I'm less likely to bite than you are," answered Nami stretching out her arms.

"They are just going to be using your bobblehead as a bouncy ball!" shouted Bakugo.

Yaoyorozu sighed and then looked over at Todoroki. "That's amazing. You must be proud."

"These offers are probably because of my father," grumbled Todoroki.

Urakaka was shaking Iida back and forth. "People want us!" She was giggling.

Mineta was shaking the green-haired guy. "Midoriya. You got none! I bet everyone was really grossed out by the crazy way you were fighting."

"Despite these results, you'll all be interning with pros. Got it?' Aizawa clarified. "Even those of you who didn't get any offers."

"Oh, so, we're all interning?" asked Midoriya with relief.

"Yes," confirmed Aizawa. "You already got to experience combat with real villains during the attack on the USJ facility. But it'll still be helpful to see pros at work. Up close and personal, in the field. Firsthand."

"And for that, we need hero names!" cheered Sato clenching his fist.

Urakaka cheered right with him. "Things are suddenly getting a lot more fun!"

"These hero names will likely be temporary, but take them seriously or..."

"You'll have hell to pay later!" said Midnight cutting him off. Mineta was the most excited to see her. "What you pick today could be your codename for life. You better be careful, or you'll be stuck with something utterly indecent."

"It's Midnight!" cheered the students.

"Yeah, she's got a good point," agreed Aizawa. "Midnight is going to have final approval over your names." He bent down grabbing his sleeping bag. "It's not my forte. The name you give yourself is important. It helps reinforce your image and shows what kind of hero you wanna be in the future. A codename tells people exactly what you represent. Take All Might for example." Whiteboards got passed back; Aizawa took his nap as they were given a few minutes to jot down a name. Nami thought back to a memory she had with Shoto.

***

At 8 years old; Nami was at the park with Shoto due to a company picnic. Shoto was watching Nami with a picture book on constellations.

"What would you choose for a hero name, Shoto?" asked Nami looking at him. "Would it be Vapor?"

"Vapor?" asked Shoto.

"Since fire and ice evaporate into steam," explained Nami.

Shoto frowned. "I'd rather deal with just ice."

"Shoto the Iceman?" asked Nami.

"No," answered Shoto shaking his head, he took the picture book. "You should be the Constellation Hero: Bellatrix."

"As in that evil witch?" recalled Nami.

"Orion's belt," said Shoto.

"That could be a move," said Nami putting a hand to her chin. "Good thinking."

*****
"Now, students, who among you is ready to share?" asked Midnight; a set of panic filled the class.

"I am!" chimed Nami getting to her feet with her hand in the air; a relief filled her classmates.

"Come on up, Takeda!" cheered Midnight.

Nami skipped to the podium and then showed everyone her board.

"The Stellar Hero: Radiator!" announced Nami with a smile.

"Makes sense with how much radiation a star has," said Yaoyorozu. "But--"

"That reminds me too much of the killer robot," said Midnight. "Give it another thought."

"All right" gloomed Nami going back to her seat. She wiped the board clean as Aoyama went back up.

"Nice try!" said Sero tapping her on the back.

"Hold your breath," warned Aoyama. "The Shining Hero." He held up his board. "My name is 'I can not stop twinkling!' Mon amis. You can't deny my sparkle!"

'Come on,' the students said in disbelief.

Midnight grabbed the board to correct it. "It'll be better this way. Take out the 'I" and shorten the 'cannot' to 'can't'." She showed the class the board.

"It's stunning, mademoiselle," complimented Aoyama.

"She likes it?" the class asked in more disbelief.

"Also, you're not really French, are you?" asked Sato. "That's jsut an act."

"Okie dokie, lemme go next!" said Ashido skipping up to the podium. "My codename: Alien Queen!"

"Hold on!" shrieked Midnight. "Like that horrible monster with the acidic blood?" I don't think so."

"Dang it," Ashido slumped back to her seat.

'That one wasn't okay?' questioned the class.

'Since the first three were so weird, I feel like I have to come up with something really clever,' said the rest of the class that hadn't gone.

Tsu raised her hand. "Ribbit. I think I've got one. Okay if I go next?"

"Come on up!" encouraged Midnight.

Tsu now stood in front of everyone. "I've had this name in mind since grade school." She showed everyone her board. "Rainy Season Hero: Froppy!"

"That's delightful!" cheered Midnight. "It makes you sound approachable!" Relief filled everyone. "What a great example of a name everyone will live!"

"Froppy! Froppy! Froppy! Froppy!" the class cheered. 'Thanks, Froppy! Finally, a normal one!'

'Approachable' thought Nami erasing the name on her board again.

"I've got mine, too," said Kisirhim going up. "The Sturdy Hero. My hero's name is Red Riot!"

"Red Riot?" asked Midnight. "Interesting. You're paying image to the Chivalrous Hero, Crimson Riot, eys?"

Kirishima smiled more. "That's right. He may be kind of old school, but someday, I wanna be just like he was. Crimson is my idol."

"Hm. If you're bearing the name of whom you admire, you have that much more to live up to," Midnight said,

"I accept the challenge!" Kirishima confirmed giving a fist.

Kamianri groaned again. "Man, I still haven't been able to think of anything that's cool enough." Jiro tapped his shoulder.

"Hey, I got one," Jiro offered her advice. "How does Jamming-yay sound to you?"

"Ha! Oh, it's like Hemingway, who wrote, A Farewell to Arms, right?" asked Kaminari. "Real clever. I like it."

"No," laughed Jiro. "It's because even though you're powerful, you always...jam your brain."

"Oh come on, Jiro!" groaned Kaminari as Jiro went up. "Quit messing with me."

Jiro showed her board to the class. "The Hearing Hero. I'm Earphone Jack."

"Now, that's a good one!" Midnight complimented.

"The Tentacle Hero, Tentacole," said Shoji.

"Oh, I like what you're doing with that!" cheered Midnght.

"The Taping Hero: Cellophane!" presented Sero.

"That's on the nose. Good work!" said Midnight, Sero blushed with a laugh.

"Martial Arts Hero: Tailman," said Ojiro.

"No surprise with that one, I guess!" said Midnight.

"I'm the Sweets Hero: Sugarman!" Sari presented.

"Perfect!" gushed Midnight.

Nami went back up. "The Constellation Hero: Aurora!"

"Much better!" cheered Midnight giving a thumbs up. Nami skipped back to her seat as Ashido gave another try.

"Pinky!" She had her fist in the air.

"Make those looks work for you, girl!" encouraged Midnight.

"Stun Gun Hero: I am Chargebolt!"

"The Stealth Hero: Invisible Girl!" presented Hagakure.

"That really suits you!" chimed Midnight. "Now come on, who's gonna step up next?"

Yayororozu went up. "I hope to live up to this name. The Everything Hero: Creati!"

"Creative!" gushed Midnight.

"Shoto," Todoroki presented.

"Just your name?" asked Midnight. "Is that it?"

"Uh-huh," Todoroki sounded.

"Blunt like his personality," Nami said putting a hand on her face.

"He's gotta balance out your bobblehead personality," said Sero patting his shoulder again.

"Jet Black Hero: Tsukuyomi," said Tokoyami.

"Ah, God of Night!" gushed Midnight.

"I'm Fresg-Picked Hero: Grape Juice!" Mineta showed.

"Very kitschy," commented Midnight. Koda went next with Petting Hero: Anima. "Yep, all about it!

"King Explosion Murder!" presented Bakugo aggressively.

"I'm going to say that's a little violent," denied Midnight,

"Huh, whaddya mean?" demanded Bakugo.

"Why don't you go for Explosion Boy?" asked Kirishima.

"You shut up, weird hair!" Bakugo shouted.

"Okay. My turn," said Urakaka going up. "This is the name I thought of; Uravity!"

"I just love it!" gushed Midnight, Urakaka sighed in relief as people clapped. "To be honest, choosing names is going faster than I thought it would. All we have left is young Bakugo, who needs to rethink his, and Iida. Oh, yes, and Midoriya, too." Out of those three, Iida went first: Tenya. "You're using your real name, too?" He remained silent.

"Is he alright?" asked Nami leaning over to Midoriya.

"I'm not sure," he answered honestly.

"Well, Midoriya, are you ready?" asked Midnight,

"Oh, yes!" He went up to the front to show his name.

"Deku," Nami repeated; Bakugo glanced back at her.

"Really Midoriya?" asked Mineta.

"You sure about that?" asked Kaminari.

"Yeah, man, remember that could be your hero name forever," added Kirishima.

"Right," Midoriya nodded. "I used to hate it. But, then something changed. I guess...Someone taught me that it could have a different meaning and that had a huge impact on how I felt. So, now I really like it. Deku. That has to be my codename." Bakugo looked up.

Bakugo took another turn. "Lord Explosion Murder." They put Bakugo's name on hold when Aizawa woke up.

"Now that everyone's decided on their hero names, we can go back to talking about your internships," said Aizawa while Midnight stretched. "They'll last for one week. As for who you'll be working with: Those of you who were on the board will choose from among your offers, everyone else will have a different list." He held up a paper. "You have a lot to think about. There are around 40 agencies across the country who've agreed to take you on as interns from your class. Each agency has a different specialty that its heroes focus on. Keep that in mind."

"Imagine if you were Thirteen," smiled Midnight. "You'd want to choose a place that focuses on rescuing people, not fighting villains. Understand?"

"Think carefully before you decide," advised Midnight; Nami stared at her list hard.

"Yes sir," said everyone; the bell rang.

"I want to fight crime and bad guys in a big city," said Kirishima looking at his paper.

"I just hope I can intern someplace where there's a lot of flooding," wished Tsu.
"Or maybe a lake."

"Turn in your chocs before the weekend," said Aizawa.

"We've only got two days?" asked Sero as Midnight waved bye.

"Yeah, so you should start now," advised Aizawa. "You're dismissed." With one last look, he closed the door. They sat in silence for a minute before breaking into groups. Nami went over and sat on Shoto's desk to discuss with him.

"So, guys have you decided what pro agency you wanna go for?" asked Ashido.

"Mt. Lady's my top choice!" answered Mineta brightly.

Tsu walked over to him. "Mineta. Are you thinking something perverted?"

"Possibly," answered Mineta looking at her.

"You made it pretty far in the tournament," Ojiro said to Ashido. "It's weird you didn't get any offers."

Ashido got to her feet. "I know!"

Urakaka looked back at Midoriya. "Hey, Deku, who's on your list?"

Deku was into one of his rambles. "There are only 40 heroes who'll take us. So after looking up their specialties and splitting them into groups, I can start narrowing--"

"There he goes again," said Ojiro, Mineta, Urakaka, and Ashido.

"Huh?" Midoriya snapped out of it. "Oh. Sorry, what'd you guys say?"

"You're really thinking hard about this, aren't you?" asked Tsu as some walked over to him.

"It'll all work out!" assured Urakaka. "I've settled on my pick!"

"Already?" asked Ashido.

"Who? Who?" asked Nami looking over.

"What agency?" Ojiro.

"The one that the Batte Hero, Gunhead, runs," answered Urakaka looking between the both of them.

"Huh? Gunheads a big brawler though," recalled Midoriya. "Are you sure that's where you wanna intern, Urakaka?"

"Yup!" confirmed Urakaka. "He sent me an offer!" She punched the air.

"Whoa!" gaspoed Midoriya. "Really? But I thought you were trying to be a hero kinda like Thirteen, more into rescuing than fighting. Ultimately, that's the plan. But I've been thinking ever since the festival---Well, at least since I faced off against Bakugo." She punched the air more. "The stronger I am, the more possibilities I'll have. Plus, learning from a battle hero will give me a different perspective. Right?"

"Right," nodded Nami kicking her legs.

"Totally," blinked Midoriya.

Urakaka's expression changed. "More importantly, there's something I've been meaning to ask you all day. Why are you trembling?"

"Og. This?" asked Midoriya focusing on his body. "It's exercise."

"Exercise?" repeated Urakaka. "Were you doing that during the whole class?"

"There's no way!" denied Ashido.

"That's such an old-fashioned way to train," complained Midoriya.

"A smart one, though," said Ojiro. "The isometric muscle contraction that's needed to hold your body above your seat makes it an easy way to work out without moving."

"idiots," growled Bakugo crumbling his paper a bit.

"It looks like he's jsut holding in a fart," said Nami tilting her head.

"It's disgusting," said Yayorozu putting a hand over her mouth.

"Of course you would say something like that," said Sero looking back at her.

"Tis skill not strength that governs a ship," said Tokoyami. Soon they were leaving class, and Nami was walking with Shoto.

"I'm going to go to my father," said Shoto.

Nami looked up at him oddly. "But---"

"I know," said Shoto. "He's number two after all though." He looked at her. "You should come to since your father works in dispatch there."

"Your father made it perfectly clear that he was only going to train you," Nami pointed him out. "Plus, I already got two in mind. Nighteye and Miriko." Shoto just stared at her Nami held out a fist; after a quick round of rock paper scissors; Nami put Endeavor down on the list.

Soon, Nami was walking home with Shinso.

"Radiator as in the Terminator?" laughed Hitoshi putting a hand on his forehead. "You thought that was an All-Star name?"

"Yes!" chimed Nami waving her hands. "Then I moved on to Interstellar Hero: Star Blast Then went more approachable with Constellation Hero: Aurora."

"Definitely more approachable than the Terminator one," said Hitoshi as Nami stepped into another puddle. They chatted on the way home about hero names, and agencies, and Shinso's approach by Aizawa. Nami ended up going with Night's agency in the end. She got an ear full from her mom for not going to Endeavor's agency.

"Everyone has their costumes, right?" asked Aizawa. "Remember, you don't have permission to wear them in public yet, and don't lose them or anything."

"Gotcha!" cheered Ashido raising her suitcase.

"Speak properly!" scolded Aizawa. "It's 'Yes, sir,' Ashido."

"Yes, sir," Ashido gloomed.

"Make sure you mind your manners with either hero during your internships," instructed Aizawa. "Now get to it."

"Yes, sir!" everyone responded. Nami and Todoroki watched Iida silently walk away before getting approached by Izuku and Urakaka.

"See you in a week Shoto," said Nami walking away from him. "Hope it goes well for you."

"Same to you," said Shoto. It didn't take long for Nami to get to the agency, it was much closer than Hawks Agency, which Tokoyami was heading to in Kyushu. Nami now stood in Nighteye's office, he had a lot of All Might apparel around the room. From what Nami could observe the man was tall, shiny green hair with three streaks of yellow in the front. Yellowish eyebrows to match the rims of his triangular glasses and bright stern yellow eyes. He wore an everyday suit with a red tie with dots.

"Thank you for having me Sir Nighteye, sir!" said Nami bowing slightly. "It's an honor to have an offer from you."

"You are someone I found quite humorous from the Sports Festival," said Sir Nighteye. "Humor and energy are vital for the future of society."

"Hm?" sounded Nami.

"Your unpredicabltness fighting style is humorous given my quirk," said Nighteye getting to his feet. "Do you have any questions?"

"Heroes tend to choose students and sidekicks that work best with their vision and how they can use them," recalled Nami. "How do you plan on using me this week?"

"Since this is an internship you are to observe me up close," said Sir Nighteye walking around the desk. "Depending on how this week goes, I may even extend this into a work-study offer later on."

"Work study?" asked Nami tilting her head and putting her hand to her chin.

"Later," Sir Nighteye said. "Go get changed; we are going out on patrol."

"Sir!" yelped Nami striking a pose and giving a thumbs up.
