VIII

The Speedy incident blew over quickly. Soon Remus was back up and on his feet. Is that a good thing? I honestly don't know.

"RUBY GET BACK HERE AND DRINK YOUR WATER!"

"NO! THATS YOUR FUCKING BATH WATER FROM 20 YEARS AGO!"

     "RUBY IM COMING!"

     "REMUS LEAVE THE KIDS ALONE!"

The four running sides were stopped when Logan cleared his throat, "It's time for school."

"What??? Already?" Roman groaned.

"Yes 'already.' They need to learn how to do their jobs correctly and how to sink out and to rise up."

"But they haven't drunken their water yet," Remus groaned.

The two children walked over to Logan. "You're a life saver," Ruby said.

"Yeah. Without you I'm pretty sure Ruby would be dead," Speedy said.

Logan rolled his eyes and turned away. He couldn't help but smile at their tendency to over exaggerate. He didn't even want to correct them.

Logan and Janus has spent time in the library looking for ways to bring Virgil back. But now they were indecisive.

Do they want Virgil back? Yes. Of course.

Would that mean losing the two children that we all grew to love? Maybe.

"Yo teach? Did you OD in there?"

Logan looked up. They were right outside the small classroom Roman made. He made it so that the kids could practice sinking in and out, but they can't sink out of the room. "Yes, Ruby. I am in fact fine."

     "Oh okay. Just checking."

Logan went on teaching them their jobs.

Speedy was to make sure Thomas was able to get out of an intense situation. She also brought up past mistakes and made sure that Thomas doesn't make those mistakes again.

Ruby was to make sure Thomas double checks everything before leaving his home. He was also in charge of steering Thomas clear of dangerous situations and people.

The kids are getting better at sinking in and out. Ruby has almost mastered how to do it while Speedy is still having difficulties.

"Why are you so good at sinking in and out?" Speedy groaned. She was currently laying on the ground while Ruby was staring down at her.

"I don't know. Logan, do you know why I'm better at this than her?"

"It could be the way your minds work. Ruby, you are more focused and organized. You tend to follow a set plan. Speedy, you are creative and impulsive. You have problems focusing on a certain task, or in this case location. In order to sink in and out, you need to focus on a certain place and the feeling of moving your existence from one place to the other. It makes sense for you to have a better understanding than Speedy," Logan informed. "That's enough for today. Come, I believe Janus has just finished lunch."

Despite all of their training to do Thomas good, despite all the reassurances that they are good people, the siblings can't help but think they did something wrong.

Everyone was really nice and accepting. But there are times when the siblings think they do something wrong.

Everyone was always really awkward around the siblings. They had only been there for a month and they had already made everyone hate them!

They aren't even allowed to be alone with Patton. "I don't understand, why can't we see Patton?! He seems nice! He even made us cookies!" Ruby complained.

"Trust us, it's safer if you are with someone when around him," Thomas started.

"Why? He's like a father. What is he going to do? Besides. We are imaginary. We can't die as long as we return to the mind palace to heal," Speedy argued.

Everyone grimaced. Anxiety creeped up the teens' backs. Did they do something wrong again? Did they hurt them? Do they hate them?

"Just trust us," Logan said sternly.

     Everyone fell into a silence.

Tension hung I've the room in a thick cloud. Ruby stood up from his seat on the couch, "You know what? No. Speedy and I trust him! We also trust you! Can't you trust us? Or at least him?!"

     "Ruby, sit down," Thomas started.

"No! I want to know what makes him so dangerous! What makes everyone so skittish around us! What did we do wrong?!"

     "Enough!"

Ruby froze and Speedy pressed her ears to the sides of her heads.

"That is enough. You will listen to us until we are ready to tell you," Logan said calmly.

Everyone was in shock. Logan never yelled at the children. He always stayed calm, not wanting to scare them.

Speedy got off the couch and grabbed Ruby's arm. She pulled him along to their shared room.

"Ugh I don't understand!" Ruby groaned as he fell back onto his bed.

"I don't either. Could it have been something that happened before we formed?"

"I don't know. He seems nice enough! But why would they be mad at us?"

"I don't know..." Speedy trailed off. "Hey, do you want to hang out in my uh- what did you call it?"

     "Your Quiet Corner."

"Yeah that. Do you want to blast music and just dance?"

"Of course. When will I ever turn that down?"

The two children ran over to the room and crawled inside. The room was perceived as small from the outside, but Roman gave the kids the ability to adjust the size. When it was just Speedy in the room, the room was big enough for her to lay down and jump around. With both twins in the room, the room was wider and taller. Speedy was the shortest, followed by Ruby, then everyone else. Being children, they are a shorter than the others.

Smiling, Speedy plugged her phone into the small speaker. Speedy loved cheering her brother up like this. She turned her volume all the way up and the first song on her Spotify playlist started. (The song at the top)

Janus sighed as he sank down onto the couch, "We need to tell them eventually."

"Yeah we're we planning on keeping it a secret forever?" Roman asked.

"No. We just wanted to protect them," Thomas said.

"They are young teens. When Roman and Remus found out they were tweens," Emile said.

"But Roman and Remus did not care what we thought of them. They were around for a few years before they started to question us," Logan said.

"They are smart. They are going to figure it out either way," Remus shrugged.

Remy sighed and stood up, "I'm going to go check on them."

Remy walked down the hall and knocked on the twins door, "Yo small coffee beans. Are you guys alive in there?" Silence.

"Okay. I'm coming in." Remy pipped into their room to find it empty. But there was music coming from the small room off to the side.

Remy smiled. No matter what gets them down, they always have each other.

I'm going to start needing prompts soon- If this book was pure plot, it would be 10 chapters long and I don't want that- so. Give random prompts for what everyone should do.

This was all over the place I'm sorry. I'm sick right now and so so so tired.

Oki bye <3
