Chapter 2
I woke up the next morning, to the pangs of hunger, I have to hunt again don't I? I thought, as I lazily stood and stretched.
As I walked out of my den, I scented the air and smelled the scent of vole.
As I started to follow the vole's scent, I felt as if someone or something was watching me. After stalking across the grass for a bit, I finally saw the vole. I tested the wind, finding that it was blowing in my direction. Tucking in my legs, and adjusting my shoulders, I slowly snuck upon it, until I was about a tail length away. As I was preparing to pounce I heard a yowl, and my vole started running away. Luckily, I saw it go and pounced on it right before it could pick up speed, killing it with a bite to the spine.
I feel like I know that yowl. I thought, SNOW! As realization and horror overcame me, I started to speed away, picking up speed on my way. I think I'm neari-- I realized that I was in the twoleg town that I grew up in, just as I heard another yowl.
"Snow?" I yelled, as my panic started to set in slowly.
"Ice?" Snow whispered, clearly in pain.
"Where are you?" I whispered back.
Snow realized that panic was setting in to Ice and she knew that Ice would try and help her. "I can't tell you"
"Why?" I said, with frustration instead of fear.
"Because you'll try and help m--" Snow was saying to me before someone cut her off.
"Who are you talking to?" I heard another cat say, not knowing who it was, just scenting that it was a tom.
"No one." Snow growled back.
"Liar!" The other cat yowled.
Who is that? I wondered, trying to remember other cats I had heard while I was living with Snow, in order to figure out if I could find a familiar voice.
"I'm not talking to anyone!" Snow yowled back, anger and panic in her tone.
"I know that you are talking to someone, and for that lie, you will pay." The tom menacingly whispered into Snow's ear.
I need to find a spot to get over the fence, I can't let him hurt Snow. I knew that I was to young to fight but that didn't matter at the time, what mattered now was to get to Snow's aid, and fast. Maybe I could just try and talk him out of hurting her. "Oh, stop it! You know that talking isn't going to solve anything, this cat wants to hurt her." I fiercely whispered to myself. But I wonder why? What did Snow do to get him to hate her that much? I thought, running up and down the fenced in area, looking for a way in.
Finally, a way through the fence! I realized as I saw a hole through the side of the fence. Okay, I'm through now I have to find Snow. As I strained my ears to try and hear Snow's yowls I saw someone sneaking in the shadows toward the way I came when I was searching for a hole in the fence. I have to follow them. I thought as I started to stalk toward them, fear pulsing through me at the thought of how much pain Snow might be in at the moment, knowing that whoever was hurting her obviously was going to slowly kill her, unless stopped. There's nothing you can do and you know it. I thought to myself, realizing how inexperienced I was with fighting. As I woke from my thoughts I found that I was very close to my target. Focus! I yelled in my mind, They will lead you to Snow!
We have to be getting close now! I thought as I sniffed the air only to pick up Snow's scent, and the scent of the cat ahead. I have to get to Snow but I can't start running ahead, because he would see me and most likely attack me, that only leaves me one choice.
I have to kill him.
