Chapter 1

I woke up and felt longing to be on my own and decided tonight was the night I was going to end that longing and be free. I walked over to my sister Sun and prodded her side.

"Sun, wake up" I whispered.

"What, Ice?" Sun groaned.

"I'm leaving." I said to Sun.

"You say that every night Ice, and you're only two weeks old." Sun replied.

"Yeah, well tonight I'm going." I said as I fluffed out my chest.

"You're crazy, there is no one warm to cuddle with and there is no milk, and if you get scared Snow won't be there." Sun said, sounding scared, like she was leaving instead of me.

"I don't care, Sun. I want to be free, and eat meat, and survive on my own." I retorted "Tell Snow I said bye when she wakes up and starts looking for me."

"Ok." Sun said with a yawn, as she laid down again and fell asleep.

She obviously thinks I'm not going. I thought as I prepared for my journey.

As I stepped outside, my little paws hit the frost-covered grass and I shivered. It's so cold out here. I thought as I started walking outside away from the warm den and out into the cold air. I noticed the stars and gaped at them. They're so beautiful.

I then realized how close it was to dawn and started running, knowing that if Snow woke up and found me that Snow would just grab me and bring me back to the den.

I was exhausted by the time I felt far enough away, and found a decent sized den.  I'm so tired, but so hungry. Maybe I should try to go hunting. Next thing I knew, I was walking to the forest, and scenting the air, and finally found the scent of a mouse.

"Now remember, tuck in your hind legs" I remembered Snow telling me, when I was just two weeks old. I had practiced hunting every day after that and sometimes I even caught a mouse for my mother, but I was never allowed to eat the mice I caught.

As I was tucking in my legs I heard the mouse squeak and started stalking closer. Soon, I could see the mouse's tail and then I pounced, landing square on its back and killing it with a bite to the spine. I then brought the mouse back to my den and put it on the ground and sat next to it. I've never had mouse before, but it smells so juicy, and yummy. I thought, as I took a bite of the mouse.

"Wow, this is awesome. No wonder why my mother always savored these." I said to myself, while I started to eat the mouse faster than before.

By the time I finished, a wall of exhaustion enclosed me and I laid down to go to sleep. I'm happy Snow taught me how to hunt already, I just hope I won't get in any fights, even  I know I'm to young and inexperienced for that. And with another glimpse at the stars, I settled into the sweet abyss of sleep.
