Chapter 8

"Hey Cliff?" I asked. Cliff motioned toward me as much as he could on a bike. I pedaled once more, catching up with Cliff.

"What?" He asked me. I smiled.

"Do you want to go to school?" I asked him.

"In all honesty, I want to do what I did in summer." He said. I rose an eyebrow.

"And that is?" I asked.

"Sleep." He said, yawning after his sentence. He closed his eyes and accidentally swerved  off the sidewalk. The bump woke him up immediately and I burst out laughing. Meadow saw us riding our bikes and swerved off the sidewalk, pedaling next to me.

"What happened?" She asked. I grinned.

"Don't you dare." Cliff said warningly. I smirked.

"Cliff fell asleep on his bike and swerved off the sidewalk." I said. Meadow burst out laughing as Cliff started blushing like a maniac. He let out a battle cry and started pedaling as fast as he could toward me. I let out a small laugh as I started pedaling. Meadow started chasing Cliff, yelling at him to stop while laughing.

"Come on Cliff! It's dangerous having you on a bike! We don't want you to fall asleep and swerve off the sidewalk again!" I yelled. I heard Meadow stifle her laughter.

We started going as fast as we could pedal. I took a few short cuts and hid in an alley. I saw Cliff and Meadow ride right by me.

Sighing, I took my jacket off and tied it around my waist. Taking a long look at my bmx bike, I grinned as I hopped back on. The insides of the wheels is purple, the rest of the bike, besides the grips, is black. The grips are purple as well.

Walking the bike to the edge of the alley, I quickly looked both ways before heading the opposite way Cliff and Meadow went. I know another way to get to school. Running, then hopping on my bike, I let my wings flow behind me as I started pedaling. All of a sudden, Cliff is right behind me, Meadow on his tail. Both of their wings were out. I looked behind me, then with a push of my wings, my bike went even faster than it has ever gone before. I heard Cliff curse.

"Cheater!" I heard him yell through the wing. Laughing, we zipped down the road on our bikes, our wings helping us go faster.

Before I knew it, we were in the parking lot of the school. I kept riding, accidentally rolling into the school. A teacher approached me with a stern look on her face. She was tall and slim, and was extremely skinny.

"River Jones?" She asked. I stopped the bike.

"That's me." I said. Her eye twitched.

"Give me that bike, and get rid of those fake wings you have flopping around." She exclaimed. I rolled my eyes. My wings are very large, thirteen feet and five inches. Rolling my eyes, I put my jacket as she roughly dragged my bike toward her. I winced.

"Be careful with it!" I exclaimed. If this was a cartoon, she would have steam coming out of her ears and nose.

"No bikes, skateboards, or scooters on school property!" She exclaimed. I groaned.

"How do I get it back?" I asked.

"You come to the detention room after school. The teacher in there will take you to your bike. First, we will call your parents about the bike, and your behavior!" She exclaimed. I rolled my eyes.

"Okay." I sulked. With a huff, she turned on her heels and dragged the bike into the school. Groaning, I saw Meadow quickly drag Cliff to some odd part of the school.

"Damn girl. I feel bad for you. I got my bike taken away once, it sucks." Some girl with red hair and green eyes said walking up to me. Some boy with black hair and slightly tan skin came up next to her.

"Yeah. Especially getting caught by Mrs. Finn. She is the strictest teacher the school has." The guy said. I rose an eyebrow.

"Who are you?" I asked them. The girl with red hair, who was about the same height as me, spoke up.

"I'm Robin. This is my brother Tanner." She said. The Tanner guy, who was slightly taller than me, crossed his arms.

"I'm River. River Jones." I said. She smiled.

"Seriously though, I hope your parents don't get mad. She tends to over-exaggerate." Tanner said. I shrugged.

"I only have my Dad, and he will be fine with anything. If I went to jail, he would just bail me out." I said. Tanners eyes went wide.

"Damn. That's the easy life." Tanner said. I rolled my eyes and laughed.

All of a sudden, Cliff and Meadow came running up to us, grinning and laughing.

"Hey guys. This is Robin and Tanner." I said. I saw Meadow stiffen. Cliff walked up next to me and introduced himself.

"Cliff." He simply said. I rolled my eyes.

"Uh, River? A minute?" Meadow asked, dragging me away. I shrugged and started walking with her.

"See you later!" I yelled to Tanner and Robin. Robin waved bye and they started talking to Cliff.

"River, Tanner is off limits." She said. I looked puzzled.

  "Why?" I asked.

"He, he got caught in the wrong crowd when he was little. He is one of the mysterious kinds of people. Not the good kind of mysterious." Meadow said.

"What did he do?" I asked.

"No one knows." Meadow said. I rolled my eyes.

"Yeah sure." I said. Meadow rolled her eyes.

"The girls at school have been trying to date him since eighth grade." She said. I rose an eyebrow.

  "And?" I asked.

"He struck them down each time." She said. I rolled my eyes again and started walking to first period.
