Chapter 28
"Can you teach how to hunt?" asked Rook.
"No," replied Hades flatly.
"Why not?" asked Rook, disappointed. They were sat under the shade of the tall sunflowers. The sun was high up in the sky and it was way past dawn.
"I don't want to," shrugged Hades. "I've got better things to do." Rook frowned.
"No offence," added Hades as an afterthought. "We've been chatting too long. I've got to go."
"Where?" asked Rook curiously.
"Somewhere. None of your business," said Hades.
"Where?" asked Rook again.
"Somewhere," huffed Hades.
"Please teach me how to hunt," begged Rook.
"Not now," huffed Hades.
"When?" grinned Rook, his ears perking up.
"Never," grumbled Hades.
"Why are you so grumpy?" sighed Rook.
"I don't want to be here," replied Hades truthfully.
"We helped your friends," reminded Rook.
"I know. That's why I'm here," replied Hades gruffly. "Right, I'm going now. Don't want to listen to your annoying voice any longer."
"I'm not annoying!" exclaimed Rook.
"Hmph," snorted Hades, getting up and flicking his tail.
"I'll see you tomorrow then," smiled Rook happily.
"Nope," Hades replied. Rook frowned.
"Why not?" he asked.
"I'm done," he said. "Right bye."
"W-b- but," Rook furrowed his brow. "But you're supposed to tell me about the Clans."
"I've told you everything I know already," answered Hades. "I'm going now. See you never. It was ok meeting you."
"You're leaving? Forever?" frowned Rook. "But why? Where are you going? Can't you teach me to hunt? Or fight?" Hades looked at him blankly.
"Sorry kit," he said finally with a small sigh. "I'll miss you. But my friends and I, we're leaving. We're going to find a new home. A better home. Somewhere where humans won't just snatch us from our home."
"But why can't you stay here?" asked Rook. "You're safe. "
"Do you even know where I live?" huffed Hades.
"No..," trailed off Rook.
"That's right. Because I don't live anywhere. We don't have a home anymore," Hades explained gruffly. "Now I've really got to go. Bye." Hades swivelled around and trotted off. Rook watched, a frown on his face.
"Bye," he called back. "I'll miss you." Hades didn't turn back.
