Chapter 14

Domino let out a loud high pitched laugh. He was hysterical.
"I'm getting scared now," Rook said, making a face as Domino was still laughing after five minutes.
             "Sorry," gasped Domino. "Nervous laughter."
             "Yeah, I realised," nodded Rook.
"You've got to be kidding me. Please tell me this is a nightmare," Domino begged.
"I'm not kidding. Missing tail cat was at my door," Rook sighed. Domino took deep breaths.
"Ok ok ok. It's ok Domino. Don't freak out," Domino muttered quickly to himself, breathing quickly. "OH MY GOD ROOK! PLEASE TELL ME YOU'RE KIDDING! DON'T DO THIS TO ME! YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME DUDE. I'M FREAKING OUT RIGHT NOW. I'M FREAKING OUT." Rook had never seen his friend like this. He didn't know whether to laugh or cry.
             "Calm down," said Rook.
"Calm down!?" yelled Domino. "This phsyco followed us back. What if he followed you to my house?! I'm going to have to be an indoor cat forever. And that baby will kill me. Missing tail cat tried to lure you out!"
"I told you. He was asking for help," Rook explained for the millionth time, calmly.
"And I told you. It was a scam," cried Domino. "We're doomed. We're totally doomed. I'm going to die."
"Relax. Domino. Relax. Look, nothing bad is going to happen. Missing tail cat's friends are really not here. He can't do anything to us," Rook said confidently.
"How do you know?! He can kill us both by himself. He's just as capable!" retorted Domino. Rook almost sneezed as some dust tickled his nose.
"This attic is dusty!" he muttered.
"Gosh. I should never have gone there," Domino said regretfully, shrinking on the ragged couch. Rook sighed. He didn't like seeing his friend like this. Especially knowing he had been the cause of it.
"I'm sorry. I'm really sorry. Just promise me you won't worry. Take my word, you're not going to die," Rook said.
"I followed you to that farm. I trusted you," Domino said. Rook felt his heart sink. He wanted to go back in the past. He would do anything to get Domino's trust back. He should never have gone to that farm. It had ruined their friendship. It was cursed.
"I'm sorry," Rook mumbled. "I'm so sorry. I'll make it up to you." Domino took a deep breath.
"No it's alright," he said. "Just go. Please. I need to think." Rook opened his mouth to say more but Domino gave him a fierce look. With a sigh, Rook leapt onto the window sill, giving Domino one last look. Domino was staring at the ground, not even noticing Rook anymore. Sadly, Rook slipped out of the cat flap and walked on the wooden beam outside. A loud bark erupted. Rook growled and hissed.
"This isn't the right time Diesel!" snarled Rook angrily. He leapt onto the pipe of the next house and then scrambled on the roof. Finally, he jumped onto a few bins next to the house and then landed on the ground. He walked through the streets. The gravel pricked Rook's feet. He didn't care. He hated the sound and smell of cars as they zoomed past him but he didn't care. He just kept walking sadly. He couldn't believe that his friendship with Domino was over. Domino would get over it. But would he? Domino had risked his life for Rook. Rook cursed himself for being so stupid. He regretted every decision leading up to the visit to the farm. Finally, he turned the street corner and found his house. He didn't have the energy to climb. Instead, he slipped under the fence where there was a small ditch, made just for him. He padded absent-mindedly towards the door. He jumped. His eyes widened. His heart raced. Missing cat tail stood at the door step. His lips curled into a smile.
"Hey," he said. "So..., have you changed your mind? Is little scaredy cat Domino going to come as well?"
"NO. No, I haven't changed my mind. And Domino isn't coming," snapped Rook. Instead of fear, anger bubbled through him. His friendship with Domino had been ruined over Missing tail cat. He wanted to rip Missing tail cat's face off. Missing tail cat sensed this in Rook. Rook growled, his fur bristled.
"Get out of my house. Leave," snarled Rook angrily, lashing his tail. "I don't want you here. Don't let me see you ever again." Missing tail cat gave Rook a long look.
"You really are a warrior," he murmured under his breath. Rook spat.
             "What was that?" he demanded.
"If you say so. I won't ever come back to your house. But I can't say the same for Domino," grinned Missing tail cat. Rook growled. Nobody was going to hurt his friend. Maybe they weren't even friends anymore. But Domino was Rook's best friend, no matter what Domino thought. Rook cared about Domino.
"You're sidekicks aren't here for you now," growled Rook. "I'm going to kill you." And at that moment he meant it. His muscles were burning, aching to jump. His claws were unsheathed. Anger pulsed through his body. With a horrific snarl, Rook leapt.
