Chapter Two

Abigail banged on the door, her heart pounding, on the phone it sounded like a huge fight was playing out and it began to worry her. Abigail thought of herself as someone who would always be there for her best friend but from the way it sounded on the phone, there were more than two people in there and it scared her. Abigail continued to bang on the door.

"Althea!" Abigail exclaimed. "Let me in!"

Crashing from the other side of the door caused Abigail to start hitting the door frame hoping that it would force the door open, she stepped back ready to break through when the knob turned and opened revealing Althea on the other side and Jayden jumping out the window.

"Althea? Are you okay?" However, the friend she knew seemed different. She was standing stiffly.

"Abigail, holy shit," Althea said. "That was terrifying."

Abigail narrowed her eyes, moving her eyes up and down on the person in front of her. When Althea was nervous, she always played with her hair, or her knee shook if she leaned against something wooden. The room was a big mess, wood splintered everywhere. It was as if someone strong enough broke everything. Which was impossible since only supernatural entities were strong enough to break it. Unless Abigail glanced at her friend's eyes the minute she saw the strange blue specks she knew exactly who it was but stayed quiet when Peter came running in.

"Peter?" Abigail said, surprised. "I thought you left the campus," she explained. "Why's everyone screaming?" She noted a bunch of people running down the halls desperate to get out and away from the supposed fire.

"We need to go now; I know a place where we can stay safe. The demons and the Servants of Evil are desperate right now," Peter explained. "If we don't get Althea away from this college, then the demons will continue to come."

Abigail didn't question it, but she still ran out the door before looking back and seeing Peter and Althea or who she hoped was Althea talking. Her posture changed again, still giving off that military styled stance. Abigail didn't think much about it before she ran out to Peter's car. A 1970s Sedan. Althea and Peter ran out and climbed into the car, Peter drove the car through the forest by the time they were deep in, the trees had practically swallowed the road for miles. They parked their car at a hidden garage before getting out and following a deer trail completely overrun by nothing more than overgrown plants.

They followed the overgrown path until eventually they arrived at the witch's old abandoned safe house. They ran inside as Peter rolled the heavy wooden door shut behind them. With the deadbolt in place, Abigail looked around her eyes, readjusting to the gloomy, suffocating light. Inside, there was a large wooden kitchen table with old candles that had been burned till there was no more wax, the old furniture was falling apart from the wooden legs to the cloth cushions. Whoever used to live in the house vanished and left all their personal belongings.

"Where are we?" Abigail asked, looking around as Peter double checked that everything was blocked off before walking toward the lights and flicking them on the room illuminated throughout the safe house. From the brightness of the room, Abigail noted a couple more things one of them being a fireplace, she walked over to it and held out her hand, the fire was just warm which made her stomach churn. "Guys I think we need to be careful, this fire is still warm."

"This place used to be a coven hideaway, witches would come here and do their dirty work before they fled at the chance they got." Peter muttered, his eyes scanning the dusty, concrete-walled room. "They believe it's cursed. They won't look here first, but I don't know how long it will be before the coven does find us." Althea walked over to the table and leaned against it, Ezra acting like he was her the entire time. Abigail looked at Althea yet again and saw another electric-blue glow vanishing from her eyes, going back to the normal browns. She crossed her arms and leaned against the table, sighing.

"I'm glad we got out of there in time; I don't know what I would do if—" Althea started.

"Can the act, Ezra," Abigail said matter-of-factly. "I know it's you." Ezra paused stiffening at the words, He turned back toward Abigail revealing blue eyes instead of brown. "I just want to know why you thought it would be fine to hide it from me." Althea blinked, a look of pure, innocent confusion washing over her face.

"What? Abigail, it's me. Althea. I swear."

"Althea doesn't slouch  like a tired soldier when she's scared," Abigail countered, taking a slow step forward. "And when she panics, she has to have her asthma inhaler otherwise she'll have an asthma attack, you are extremely calm and staying perfectly still. I've spent a year with her as we were both learning our powers, we fought Mammon. I know that energy. This is the first time I've ever seen you behind the wheel."

"You really figured it out that fast?" Ezra asked. "Gotta hand it to you kid, you really know your celestial beings don't you?"

"Well I was raised by Christians," Abigail replied. "In fact I can sense when an angel is nearby."
*~*~*

Jayden dusted off her denim jacket, the bright red hair and brown eyes weren't hard to miss. She had blood coming from the crevices as the Servants were right in the middle of the Bellemont mill Ruins, ever since Alex left them, they were the only ones who knew how to do the spell. Malakai entered the old room, with the walls crumbling but still very well put together.

"Jayden, why have you come back?" Malakai asked. "You were supposed to capture Althea; Mammon is waiting for us."

"Look, I did," Jayden said, standing up and dusting off her pants. "But we got interrupted, the angel took over and fought me. Said that we can try to grab her, but he would take over."

"We don't need to kidnap her just yet, think about it," Malakai said. "We can easily lure them to the Devil's Tramping ground, we just need a few ingredients. Eriq," Malakai turned toward the young man working through a large black book. "Do a blood tracking spell, find out where they're hiding, also we need to make sure that we have the three ingredients. Jayden bring me my blade."

Jayden didn't argue, all she could think about was how Malakai was planning to harm the conduit, she managed to hide the fact that the devil didn't want her but wanted Althea as his little puppet. Jayden walked into the armory that they hid in the newest part of the mill. There she grabbed a silver jagged blade with Enochian sigils on it. Walking out of the armory she handed the blade over to Malakai.

"What are you going to do with that exactly?" Jayden asked.

"One of the ingredients involves that angel passenger inside of Althea," Malakai stated. "We need to make sure that Althea is actually alone. Did you find them yet Eriq?"

In a bowl of blood Eriq concentrated and focused on their location, once he was able to zero in on the location of the safehouse he was able to relay it to Malakai.

"I found them, they're at the old safehouse," Eriq said. "Would you like me to go with you?"

"No, you stay here and wait for my instructions, Jayden, come with me, I'm going to pay an angel and conduit a little visit." Malakai grabbed his jacket and walked out of the mill making his way to a forested area in North Carolina.

*~*~*

Ezra, Peter, Abigail, and Althea were all safely locked away in the old safe house. Peter going through an old grimoire. The leather on the boom was already falling off and as Peter flipped through the old book, silence filled the room as Ezra and Abigail were staring at each other.

"Okay you two," Peter said. "The silence is really deafening and I would appreciate it if the two of you actually talked."

"Fine," Abigail started and turned toward Ezra. "Ezra, what do they want with Althea? And how are you controlling her?"

"There's so much you need to learn, kid," Ezra explained. "Althea is an Angel Conduit. I don't know if you remember that from last year."

"Meaning?" Abigail asked.

"Meaning, Angel conduits are incredibly rare. They only come once every hundred years and that's only in a select few bloodlines," Peter explained. "But each conduit has a specific Angel tethered to that person, and it's through their soul. They're one and the same," Peter continued. "However, there are exceptions to this, if that true vessel is tarnished in any way shape or form, that Angel can no longer control that conduit body and is therefore forced to eject from the body."

"You sound like you know this," Abigail said. "Is it part of the Servants training?"

"No, let's just say.... Things didn't go like I had planned when I was Althea's age." Ezra and Peter locked eyes, Abigail had a distinct feeling that the two had some sort of history together and neither one of them wanted to talk about it.

"Moving right along," Ezra said, taking over. "Angel conduits are chosen before they're even born, it's what makes them so rare, no ordinary demon or angel can take over the conduits body unless Althea says yes to let the other angels in and if a demon were to take over let's just say they would be crushed half to death," Ezra explained. "However because of Althea's abilities coming to the surface, I was able to finally take my place as her passenger."

"What would happen if the demons and the witches got their hands on her?" Abigail asked. "I overheard Jayden say something about Lucifer, how could they do that if you are her one and only angel?"

"If they got their hands on Althea, the first thing they'll do is try to make it where her body is uninhabitable or they would try to force me into a vault to take control of her," Ezra replied. "And we can't let that happen."
