Chapter 8

"I think you could use a bath." I said looking at the dirty state Jasper was in.

"No." Jasper replied forcefully while crossing his arms which was kind of cute coming from an eight year old.

"Why not?" I asked as Rameses jumped onto the bed next to Jasper.

"I can't touch water." Jasper replied looking away.

"Why not?" I asked again.

"Will O' Wisps are fire fire is extinguished by water." Jasper said curtly looking at me again.

"Alright well let's get some of this soot off of you then." I said before grabbing a towel from the bathroom and returning to the bedroom. I sat next to Jasper and used the towel to try to wipe of the soot which was easier said than done since I wasn't able to use any water.

"Someone's coming." Rameses stated looking at the door as his ears twitched catching the sound of the person coming down the hall. Acting quickly I grabbed Jasper and shoved him underneath the fluffy pillows at the head of the bed just as the door creaked open revealing Aunt Maya.

"I'm Sorry that I yelled, but you must understand that wandering off on your own was very dangerous. You could have been hurt or killed." Aunt Maya said coming to sit on the edge of the bed thankfully Jasper remained hidden from her notice.

"Here the beginning of your studies starts here the best way to defend yourself is to know the enemies you might face." Aunt Maya said Handing me a leatherbound book.

"The book of Cryptids volume 1. by Adsila Valencia." I said reading the cover that only had a title on it.

"Yes your great-great grandmother wrote this, I hope that you will read it before moving on to other readings, Supernatet." Aunt Maya said waving her hand and causing a stack of books to float into the roam before dropping onto the bed. Unfortunately the books slid and fell onto Jasper's hiding place thankfully Aunt May was already leaving the room so she paid no notice to Jasper's sigh from the books falling on him.

"That hurt." Jasper said coming out of his hiding place while rubbing the top of his head and moving books away from himself. I opened the book to find it had an alphabetical order to it. As I flipped through the book I noticed that after each species were several blank pages for note which made up a majority of the book. I stopped when I found a picture of the form that Jasper had taken when hiding from Aunt Maya a wisp made of flames.

Will O' Wisp

Will O' Wisps are found worldwide but unlike other cryptids, Will O' Wisps can only form when a human soul obtains enough power to take the form of a living flame. Although at first very strong they quickly lose their power. The amount of power a Will O' Wisp can easily be observed when they are in their human form in which the age reflects their strength the younger the weaker and vice versa. Use caution when dealing with Will O' Wisps as they can burn things just as fire can, water is the Will O' Wisps natural enemy.

So his age was reflective of his strength and why his age was in a continual state of flux. I was so focused on my reading that I didn't notice that Rameses was reading over my shoulder or that Jasper had fallen asleep.

"Ok a cat I can deal with but a child is too much." Sorcha said from the doorway startling Rameses and I, but not waking the sleeping Jasper.

"Please don't tell Aunt Maya." I pleaded knowing that Aunt Maya would not take well to Jasper.

"Why not Morgan?" Sorcha asked bitterly. Crossing her arms after closing the door behind her.

"He has nowhere else to go." I replied not knowing if it was fact or fiction.

"Do you trust Morgan?" Rameses asked Sorcha interrupting our argument before it caused Jasper to wake.

"Yes." Sorcha replied defeatedly.

"Then trust her to know how to deal with Jasper alright." Rameses stated ending the argument. Sorcha pulled out her laptop sitting on the bed next to Jasper who simply rolled over not caring about Sorcha. I returned to reading about the different creatures with Rameses. When the sun was near set I got up to change and brush my teeth and hair before returning to the bed. I was careful not to wake Jasper who looked like a three year old again. I fell asleep not knowing that my dreams only held nightmares.

"I don't care what you think Aberforth, It's my life not yours!" A pale raven haired man said a beer bottle in one hand and obviously drunk.

"Enough Jasper You're wasting your life away." I replied although my voice was that of a man not my own.

"Just because your father's heir doesn't mean that I have to do as you say." The man called Jasper retorted bitterly.

"What about Willow she cares about you and your only hurting her!" I yelled angrily.

"Don't you dare talk about her!" Jasper yelled before throwing the beer bottle at me as the bottle collided with the wall next to my head; I woke up to the sound of thunder sitting up breathing heavily. Jasper looked at me from his place sitting on my closed travel trunk with a blue flame above him lighting up the room just enough to see but not enough to wake the others.

"Are you afraid of storms or something." Jasper asked in his high pitched voice.

"No I actually like them." I replied stretching and yawning.

"I don't, I can't touch water." Jasper said watching the rain spater against the window walls at which point my stomach decided to remind me I hadn't eaten since lunch.

"Do you make a habit of forgetting to eat?" Jasper asked smirking.

"It would seem so." I replied getting up while being careful not to wake Rameses or Sorcha.

"Are you hungry?" I asked Jasper as I made my way towards the kitchen. In response he flew past me in his wisp form. Jasper was already sitting on the kitchen island peeling an orange he gave me a slice before looking at me like a begging puppy.

"What's wrong?" I asked before popping the slice into my mouth.

"I can't eat unless i'm given permission." Jasper said looking ashamed. I walked to the fridge wondering if he would do better from a fire accelerant. I opened the fridge and found what I was looking for, a bottle of alcohol specifically whiskey.

"Drink up you can have it." I said handing Jasper the bottle. Jasper quickly grew as he drank the whiskey his clothes changing with him. He slid off the side of the counter as he finished the whiskey. By this time he was 5"5 and decided to lean against the island, all baby fat gone from his lean pale features. His raven hair was as unruly as before but had become longer to the point where it reached his shoulders. He now wore a white button down shirt, a black formal coat, slacks and dress shoes. Flattening his unruly hair was a black top hat with a joker card stuck in its' green ribbon.

"Something catch your eye sweetheart?" Jasper asked tipping his hat back to look at me with his fiery blue eyes, all the while smirking like a cat who had caught the canary.

"N-no." I said looking away.

"Now may I have the orange." Jasper asked still smirking.

"Go ahead." I replied having a sense of dejavu

"Aberforth." I said as my nightmare returned to my mind and I realized Jasper was the same as from my dream. Jasper choked on the slice of orange he had eaten as soon as he heard the name. He quickly regained his composure and stood up straight.
