Chapter 7

"Where's the money kid?!?!" the smallest cyclops asked pushing the kid causing him to fall at which Rameses growled his fur bristling reflecting my own emotions of anger. Without thinking I ran to the child and pulled him back causing us to fall just as the third punched the ground where the kid had been only moments before.

"RUN!!" I yelled as Rameses ran at the third cyclops and clawed at it's single eye. I scrambled to my feet holding onto the child's wrist.

"Rameses let's go!"I exclaimed as the child and I ran. Rameses responded by jumping off the cyclops face and raced after us. Thankfully the cyclops weren't to bright and took a moment to comprehend what had happened to them giving us a head start. The child was having difficulty keeping up with me so I picked him up and continued running full tilt Rameses by my side. I ran through the winding alleys eventually losing the sight of the cyclops' I rested for a moment breathing heavily meanwhile Rameses was half laying down panting but we had finally lost them. Or so I thought until I heard the rough voices of the Cyclops arguing I spotted a pile of crates that hadn't been taken into a store yet and dived behind them the child still in my arms Rameses right on my heels the three of us sat in silence hoping the cyclops wouldn't find us.

"Where did those stupid rats go!!!" One of the cyclops yelled as it hit one of the crates next to us in his anger causing the three of us to hold our breaths for what seemed like an eternity. Eventually the three Cyclops moved on losing interest in finding us.

"Are you alright?" I asked setting the child down and checked him over. Rameses approached the child and sniffed him before hissing and bristling like a truly irate cat.

"What is wrong with you Rameses?!" I asked just barely keeping him from scratching the child.

"He smells like fire and graveyard soil, that is no normal child." Rameses hissed glaring the child.

"Thank you for helping me." The child said backing away from me so as to allow Rameses to stand between me and him.

"What is your name?" I asked the child.

"My name is Jasper." The child said to which I smiled only for my stomach to remind me that I hadn't eaten since yesterday.

"The least I can do for your helping me is to lead you to the main street." Jasper said holding out his hand causing wisps of blue flames floated in the air leading down the alleyway. Jasper went dreary eyed and fell forward, despite Rameses' protests I caught him in my arms and set off down the lit up path with Rameses by my side.

"What are you doing he could be dangerous." Rameses warned. Looking up at Jasper who was near unconscious and seemed to have shrunk to the size of a three year old. He looked as if he was seriously sick as if he should be in a hospital sick.

"Does he look dangerous?"I asked giving Rameses a look of disbelief.

"The least we can do is take him to a hospital." I told Rameses when he nodded yes in response.

"N-no hospitals." Jasper croaked grabbing my shirt with one hand and looking up at me. Before I could respond I noticed that we were on the main road again.

"Let's get something to eat." I said walking toward a restaurant with Rameses in tow.

"Follow me." a waitress said before leading us to a table. I sat Jasper down on the booth across from Rameses and I before sitting down myself. The waitress set down two glasses of water as well as a bowl of water on our table before handing us menus.

"I'll leave you to look over your menus and be back in a bit." the waitress said before leaving. I looked and saw that Jasper looked at me not touching his menu.

"Do you have a favorite food?" I asked thinking that he might not be able to read, to which Jasper nodded no. So I looked over the menu only to find they served another favorite of mine spaghetti.

"What do you want Rameses?" I asked looking towards him.

"Salmon if it's not too much trouble." Rameses stated watching Jasper's every move.

"So what can I get you?" The waitress asked a pad of paper and a pen in her hands.

"Two small spaghetti and a small serving of salmon please." I replied staying well within the budget Aunt Maya had given me. The three of us sat in an awkward silence until the waitress returned with our food. She set the salmon in front of Rameses who happily dug in before setting the plates of spaghetti in front of Jasper and I. I picked up my silverware ready to start eating myself when I noticed that Jasper was looking at the food remorsefully.

"It's for you." I said causing Jasper to snap his head up looking at me in disbelief.

"Are you serious?" Jasper asked wide eyed.

"Of course you can eat." I replied to which Jasper started digging into the food as if he hadn't eaten in days there were even tears in his eyes. This was probably one of the best meals he had eaten in a while if he lived on the streets. I started eating my own food and ended up being the last to finish. Rameses was staring at Jasper distrustfully when I looked to see what had caused it I realized Jasper looked more like an eight year old rather than a three year old.

"Anything else I can get you anything else?" The waitress asked startling me from my thoughts.

"No we're good" I said as she gave me the tab to which I gave her two of the golden coins and told her to keep the change causing her face to light up like it was christmas.

"Thank you for the food." Jasper said as we were leaving the restaurant he gasped and turned into a wisp of blue flame before hiding behind me barely noticeable. At first Rameses and I were confused until we saw an enraged Aunt Maya walking towards us.

"Let's go home." Aunt Maya stated grabbing my wrist and leading us to the hall of mirrors in silence Victor noticed Jasper hiding behind me but said nothing on the matter. Jasper continued to hide from Aunt Maya and grabbed onto my clothes as we passed through the mirror back to our hotel room.

"What were you thinking?!" Aunt Maya exclaimed as soon as we were in the kitchen.

"You could have gotten hurt or been found by Set." Aunt Maya Criticized

"And you were supposed to keep her safe." Aunt Maya yelled at Rameses causing his ears to go flat. Aunt Maya continued her lecture so Rameses and I decided not to tell her about the cyclops or Jasper who had flown off to somewhere in the hotel. Eventually the lecture stopped when my mother ran into the room and rushed over to hug me.

"You took her to the veiled realm didn't you!" Mother screamed at Aunt Maya at which point Rameses and I made our escape to our room passing by Sorcha who was sitting on the couch ignoring the fight and watching tv. When we got to the room we were greeted by Jasper who was sitting on the bed still covered in soot.
