Chapter 6
"Wake up Morgan." Rameses said as he attempted to shake me awake.
"Go away." I groaned not wanting to get up.
"You asked for it." Rameses said as he backed away from I felt the bed shake before Rameses landed on me startling me awake.
"What the heck was that for?" I asked angrily as I sat up.
"You need to get dressed."Rameses said ignoring me. I got up and dressed in simple yoga pants and T-shirt I then went into the main area of the hotel room.
"Don't bother with breakfast we will eat out." Aunt Maya said as she got up and walked towards me.
"Come on then." Aunt Maya said walking past me to a tall standing mirror. Aunt Maya pulled a metal wand of sorts and touched it to the mirror speaking a few hushed words. I walked to stand beside aunt Maya Rameses by my side. Aunt Maya put an arm around my shoulders and walked into the mirror taking me with her. Walking through the mirror felt like walking through icy cold water. As we emerged I saw that we were in a marble hall filled with mirrors, people were walking in and out of mirrors above each mirror was a flag of a country.
"This is the Speculum Fores of Broria." Aunt Maya said as she led me from the hall. The vaulted ceilings spend high above our heads, The walls were made of a marble and giant glowing sapphires seemed to float in the air. The halls were crowded with people of all sorts thankfully aunt Maya had grasped my hand keep me from getting lost. Ramsey's tried to keep up but had difficulty with it in the end he decided that it was a better idea to jump on my back sinking his claws into my skin. the feeling of pain into a single emotion and sent it across the barrier in our minds to him , As a result he flinched and quickly moved his claws to be in my clothes instead of my skin. The three of us walk for a time seeing people from all across the world. some of which had odd trinkets or even weirder clothes we saw very few familiars although there were few including a child no older than five riding on the back of a grizzly. The three of us left the hall to a balcony of sorts an expanse of dark purple water separated us from a luxurious city. Aunt Maya led us to a dock where an angry looking man stood on the edge of a flimsy rowboat. Other people emerging from the hall went towards more stable boats rather than the one Aunt Maya had chosen.
"Good morrow to you lady Valencia, Three to go across?" The Ferryman asked.
"Yes Victor and may your business prosper." Aunt Maya replied giving the Ferryman Victor three golden coins for which he welcomed us onto his rickety rowboat. I couldn't see Victor's face due to the dark hood that kept his face from sight.
"Morgan look at me please." Aunt Maya requested when I looked at her I realized her eyes had gone from being icy blue to both being a brilliant cerulean.
"Do you have any preference of eye color?" Aunt Maya asked to which I nodded no wondering if it had to do with Aunt Maya's different eye color.
"Occultatem." Aunt Maya said as her hands covered my eyes for a moment causing a tingling feeling in my eyes, the tingling stopped as soon as Aunt Maya removed her hands.
"That should keep people from realizing what you are." Aunt Maya said looking towards the city.
"Morgan your eyes." Rameses exclaimed bushy tailed. I peered over the side of the boat to see my reflection only to find that the dark water gave no reflection. I reached my hand down to touch the only for Victor to hit my hand with his oar startling me from my stupor and drawing Aunt Maya's attention who seemed rather concerned.
" I would suggest you refrain from touching the shadowrealm only shadow weavers can survive there." Victor said resuming his rowing us to the city.
"On the subject of warnings, a smuggler released several will o' wisps in Broria." Victor told Aunt Maya.
"Will o' wisps are nothing to be concerned of they are some of the weakest spirits their are they even pale in comparison to ghosts." Aunt Maya replied.
"It's not you I worry for it is the curious young Valencia I am concerned with." Victor said turning towards me with piercing red eyes that cut through the darkness of his hood.
"She has a familiar to take care of her even if I am unable to." Aunt Maya said to Victor practically ignoring me. I hated when people did this it was downright rude.
"We are here." Victor stated as we docked, The three of us left the boat but when rameses and I turned back to say our thanks to Victor he was already gone causing Ramese to go bushy tailed again.
"You didn't expect him to stay did you. He does have a business." Aunt Maya stated.
"Not a very good business if you ask me he barely had any customers." Rameses stated.
"Be kind he seemed like a good person he did keep me from getting hurt after all." I replied as we walked a few steps behind Aunt Maya who seemed ignorant to our conversation. We arrived at a large store with a sign in the shape of a book with a snake curling around it. Scrawled across it was Serpent's scrolls in bright silver which stood out strongly against the dark mahogany of the sign.
"Here roam but do not leave the store." Aunt Maya said handing me twenty golden coins before we entered the store which was filed with books and lots of people. Rameses jumped onto my back to avoid us being seperated I walked to a small alcove under a set of stairs and sat under the stairs on a small couch waiting for Aunt Maya to finish with her dealings.
"What's that?" Rameses growled looking into the crowd drawing my attention to a small five year old boy dressed in a white shirt, dark pants, and a brown plaid vest he was covered in soot as if he had rolled in a fireplace and dusted himself off. His black spiky hair was kept down by a old timey gray newsboy cap. The reason for his catching Rameses' attention was that he was stealing money from the pockets of people in the crowd.
"What are you doing?" Rameses asked as I got up to stop the child.
"If someone else catches him first then he will be in trouble." I replied moving towards the child who saw me and ran for a side door of the store. I ran after the child Rameses on my heels in his haste the child didn't notice the money he had stolen falling out of a torn pocket and in my focused state I couldn't care less about returning the money. Eventually the boy slowed thinking he had lost me in the maze of alleys he had led me through.
"Wait let's see what he does." Rameses cautioned as I was about to sprint to catch the child we hid behind a corner and saw three men who were at least a good 6" tall move out of the shadows they wore hides and pelts but the most noticeable detail was that they all had one eye each. The three cyclops approached the child.
"Give us the money wisp." the largest of the cyclops demanded holding out his giant hand towards the child. The child searched his pocket and gained a look of fear when he realized he no longer had any money to give them.
